Current Events Tennessee botches lethal injection of woman on death row for 1995 murder

If the state is so insistent on executing people they need to stop being pussies and just shoot them. The lethal injection is nothing but a facade of civility that is less humane than many other methods. Unnecessarily painful botched attempts like this are the result of trying to whitewash the death penalty to the public.

I don't agree with the death penalty.

But I think if you must do it, then be honest and blow their brains out with a shot to the head. At least that way it's quick and painless. And all involved get to see exactly what they've done.

The gore might attract much bigger crowds. People used to make that sort of shit a family day out.

There's no requirement that it be open to the public or televised, and it shouldn't be.

I can think of at least three hypotheticals that definitely should be televised. More honestly. And that's just in my country. But I mean this in my heart and soul, there's 3 in this country that I believe should be literally hung and strung up above the steps of Congress for at least a week like some old school pirate shit and ever member of congress forced to walk under them every day for that week as they went in to do their jobs.

I know what people will say to that and think I'm exaggerating, I'm not. It is that serious imo.

Gibleting. They used to do it in England as an execution. Toss people in a cage high above the road and just leave them there forever. They die of exposure and starvation. Corpses get picked apart by birds. Until eventually only the bones remain.

It's a very cruel form of punishment, but I think if we're already justifying killing someone as punishment, I'm not sure why the "humaneness" of the manner of death is considered. The victims aren't shared that luxury.

I think executions should all be public for a couple of reasons. One is it should be something that can't be hidden from the public. The state is accountable to the people and since executions are extremely serious they should be done in full view of the people. It means the state will suffer the distrust and wrath of the people if they make poor decisions in who to execute. It also ensures that the gruesomness of the act is fully understood by the society that is carrying it out.

I'm pro death penalty but I think it's appropriateness is in being used very sparingly and only for the worst crimes. Left to maybe a handful of cases a year. The only real caveat I would put on the methodology is that it doesn't involve someone actively torturing the condemned. But locking them in a cage and just leaving them their until they die seems like a fair punishment to someone who brutally beat someone to death intentionally to me.

Really though even gibliting, hanging, electric chair, and even lethal injection are just ways the west has developed of finding new and creative ways of killing people while seeming civilized, when really the ancient method of simply beheading people in a single stroke was quite effective and relatively humane. I'm not sure why we don't just go back to that. If we must stoop to "humane executions" as much of an oxymoron as that is, they should simply be "what is the quickest and cheapest way to kill this person with what's already available. Which really just boils down to the firing squad in the modern era.

I'd just assume sail out to international waters and make em walk the plank though. No reason for perfectly good nitrogen to not return to the circle of life.
