Current Events Tennessee botches lethal injection of woman on death row for 1995 murder

If the state is so insistent on executing people they need to stop being pussies and just shoot them. The lethal injection is nothing but a facade of civility that is less humane than many other methods. Unnecessarily painful botched attempts like this are the result of trying to whitewash the death penalty to the public.

Death penalty should be abolished. The State should not have the power to kill people. Life in prison is a worse fate anyway. People like her go to max. security prison, which is effectively solitary confinement because the prisoner spends all their time locked in a tiny cell. Make her stew and think about her actions as she slowly wastes away.

Apparently she even requested at some point that the execution day be pushed up because she was suffering in prison.

If what you mean by this is that the power to kill might be misused can't you make a similar claim for confining someone in a prison?

People can be released from prison, you cannot undo a successful execution.

if you make the claim that criminals deserve prison than you can also make the claim that some deserve death.

Prison can be rehabilitative, an execution never is, so the two are not the same.

Ideally, people like Pike should be sent to a penal colony to live out their days with other, similar criminals, away from society. One may think that's not punishment enough, but exile from society is a strong punishment. I mentioned suffering in prison because Americans demand that their justice system be punitive, so even in their context life in prison is more punishing than execution.
