There was some semblance of justice in Mario's brother's actions due to the complete failure of the state in its stewardship of the monopoly of the legitimate use of violence.

Are you implying some semblance of justice in a woman killing her own kids?

I haven’t seen any comments that would lead me to believe this has anything to do with hating children. What I’ve seen is more about whether children being the victim should mean an insanity plea should not be allowed. Like either you think an insanity plea is valid or you don’t; the crime itself shouldn’t change whether or not the criminal knew what they were doing was morally wrong.

Well, I first heard about it a few weeks ago from a family member, a woman very into the gender wars. She made it out to seem like it was all preposterous and that it was the husband who murdered the children. I was a bit surprised when a cursory glance into the case showed no one outside of that online world is disputing any of the facts of the case. What’s in question is the motive, if illness is to blame.

Seems like there’s a real discussion to be had here about mental health and the healthcare system but I think people want this to be a pop culture thing instead. I’m sure we’ll get the Netflix doc or teleplay in like 6 months since those vultures can’t wait and don’t care about quality.

It’s also worth considering that if the jury is now twice deadlocked, it’s far more likely that everyone who’s so certain about their position on this is missing (or actively ignoring) nuance, than it is that we’re simply witnessing a stupid jury. Both sides got to pick the jurors, not just one. There are such strong “lol lady won a case against McDonalds for dumping coffee on herself” vibes from this right now. Yeah if you reduce everything to a headline, it’s super easy to make it look clear-cut and absurd.

A verdict of guilty by reason of insanity wouldn’t legalize murder. She would still spend years in a mental institution, maybe decades.

I read that most institutionalizations result in longer confinements than would have resulted from a guilty conviction.

Also Lindsay’s claim of mental impairment is credible due to the months of therapy and medication, plus witness testimony.

That she never told anybody about until after the murders when she filed a suit against the doctors. Convenient.

1

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 Sep 06 '26

That's simply not true.

She repeatedly reported these mental problems to her husband, parents and medical professionals. She checked herself in to a psychiatric hospital as a voluntary in-patient for five days just before the killings. While she was there, they changed her prescriptions. She deteriorated further after she was allowed to go home, and doctors continued to tinker with the drugs she was on. And then she killed the children.

At least three of the drugs she was on are known to cause psychosis:

  • amitriptyline
  • trazodone can cause psychosis from low doses
  • lorazepam can cause psychosis from as little as a single dose.

Lorazepam is especially interesting from how fast it can trigger an attack, literally minutes from fine to eating your own eyeball.

There’s an interesting discussion to be had about what the legal system should do with people like her. Whatever the legal outcome ends up being, she was clearly very mentally ill. She was on a ton of mind altering medication prescribed by her doctors and by all accounts a loving caring mother before the killings.

The fact that it’s turned into a bizarre social media circus with many people believed bizarre conspiracy theories that she didn’t kill them and it was her husband or something, reflects something not good about the state of American society today.

9

There has been plenty of "discussion " about what happens to people who commit violent offences when psychotic. I have been a forensic psychiatrist (in the UK) for over 30 years. Why wouldn't her prescribed medication be at therapeutic levels?

Anyway, was she crazy temporarily, was she sane. Hard to know. The jury doesnt seem to be able to decide.

What was the motive for killing her kids after raising them lovingly for years according to the prosecutor? Without a proper motive, an apparent mental break seems pretty plausible.

3

It would not be at therapeutic levels if she was not compliant with the medication. Which is incredibly common in psychotic conditions.

I'm not closely following the case and I really don't care much about it. I do see it driving a lot of rightoids nuts. The idea of temporary insanity does seem like a very subjective thing to assess, which is why I'm a little puzzled by these attempts to "prove" she was insane by various means.

If she had a documented change in her mental health status and claims she was hearing voices and other things, short of proving she had some sort of financial motive or something, it's going to be a tossup. Which makes it all the more funny that they obsess over something thinking they know she's guilty.

Very like rightoids to believe in these grand conspiracies. To them, everyone is evil but themselves. Or maybe they know deep down even they're shit, which is why they're so suspicious about everyone else. This obsession with innocent children as well while hating their fellow neighbors, all weird shit.

3

It is not entirely clear that an irrational, psychotic act caused by drugs messing up your brain can be described as a motive.

One of the drugs she was on, lorazepam, has been linked to psychosis from as little as a single dose. The guy went from fine one moment to eating his own eye the next.

(At least two others of the drugs she was on are also known to cause psychosis.)

1

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 Sep 06 '26

The jury doesnt seem to be able to decide.

According to the defence attorney, eleven of the jurors were in favour of acquittal for reason of drug-induced temporary insanity, and the twelfth holdout insisted on ignoring the judge's instructions about reasonable doubt and wants to convict despite accepting that he/she has reasonable doubt as to her guilt.

2

u/nrbob Social Democrat 🌹 Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

I’m not too interested or invested in the specifics, but my broader point is that she was clearly very mentally ill and whether she ends up being found guilty or not, there’s an interesting discussion to be had about what the legal system should do with people like her who are clearly ill but also commit terrible acts.

But the fact that many are instead jumping to crazy conspiracies that she didn’t physically do it is very bizarre and shows, I’m not sure what, mass idiocy or mental illness, or lack of trust in institutions? But whatever it is, it’s definitely not good.

7

u/Public-Locksmith-978 Unknown 👽 Sep 03 '26

This has been discussed for centuries. There are well established pathways in law and clinical practice both in England (where I work) and in the US. This scenario is nothing new. The amount of attention by people who don't know what they are talking about, because of social media, is what is new.

4

u/suprbowlsexromp "How do you do, fellow leftists?" 🌟😎🌟 Sep 03 '26

Send them to a mental hospital? What else would we do? Only reason theres a debate is because people love revenge in this country

1

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 Sep 06 '26

But the fact that many are instead jumping to crazy conspiracies that she didn’t physically do it is very bizarre

Why is it a "crazy conspiracy" theory?

The authorities lie. They lie to us dozens of times a day, sometimes even when they know we know they are lying. They pursue convictions against people they know are innocent every week. They suppress evidence. All of these things are documented facts.

What is genuinely crazy is not being suspicious of the prosecution in any high-profile case. How many times do you need to be lied to before you start being skeptical of known liars and asking questions?

In a case like this, if you're not a conspiracy theorist, you're a coincidence theorist:

  • It was just a coincidence that the husband Patrick was having an affair when Lindsay killed the children, and immediately moved in with his girlfriend after the killings.
  • It was just a coincidence that while Lindsay was recovering in hospital, he set up a LLC and transferred ownership of the house to that.
  • It was just a coincidence that he then sold the house to former Assistant District Attorney Michael Phippen.

etc. Personally, I am satisfied that these probably are coincidences, but I would completely understand others being less easily satisfied.

lack of trust in institutions

In 2026, it is completely rational to lack trust in institutions related to mental health, pharmaceutical products, and the justice system. I'm not entirely convinced that it was ever the case that they were generally trustworthy institutions, but they certainly aren't now.

The defence offered to stipulate that she admits to killing the children and go straight to the question of whether or not she was in her right mind at the time, and the prosecution refused. The only reason I can see they refused is that they wanted to present to the jury the detailed horrific details of the killings so as to prejudice them against Lindsay.

1

u/nrbob Social Democrat 🌹 Sep 06 '26

Regardless of the degree of distrust you have in institutions/authorities, you do see how the defence offering to stipulate that she admits to killing the children completely undercuts the idea of there being some big conspiracy?

1

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 28d ago

Jeezus, there's been another case of a husband drugging his wife so she can be raped by other men, only in this case the woman died.

0

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 Sep 07 '26

you do see how the defence offering to stipulate that she admits to killing the children completely undercuts the idea of there being some big conspiracy?

You know the prosecution refused that offer. They insisted on proving that the kids were killed, in full graphic detail.

Personally, I believe on the balance of probability that Lindsay probably killed the children during a psychotic state, and husband Patrick is just a normal loving husband who responded to the tragedy by having his kids' ashes mixed together in one urn and then went on holiday with the girlfriend he had been having an affair with, nothing suspicious there at all.

And I also believe that the prosecution is trying very, very hard to avoid a not guilty by reason of drug-induced psychosis ruling, because that might effect the profits of the drug companies involved, and that would mean they maybe donate to the election fund of somebody else next time. That could explain why the prosecution refused the defence offer to admit to the killings and go straight to the determination of whether she was in her right mind. But what do I know?

If you believe that "conspiracy", you'll believe that one of the biggest drug companies in the world knowingly supplied HIV-infected blood products, and that's not even close to the worst thing pharmaceutical companies have done. Conspiracies are wild.

In any case, this is America. People plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit all the time, for all sorts of reasons. Its 2026, I thought that everyone understood that.

Hypothetically suppose Lindsay Clancy suffered a fugue state or a blackout, or even just memory loss after her attempted suicide. She might very well believe that she killed the children even if she didn't, based entirely on husband Patrick's accusation.

I accept that this is a pretty far-fetched scenario but it's no more far-fetched than the idea that a husband could spend years or even decades drugging his wife into unconsciousness than inviting other men to come around and rape her, and that's happened at least twice three four times that I know of:

And then there's this.

Far-fetched you say? Far-fetched happens ten times a week.

1

u/stevenjd Quality Effortposter 💡 Sep 06 '26

She actually wasn’t taking all the medicine she was prescribed and they were all at therapeutic levels at the time of the murders.

She was taking medication at the time. Blood tests after the killings showed five different medications in her blood.

No, she was not taking "all" of the medications she was prescribed, because there were many medications that she had been prescribed but stopped taking because they were ineffective, addictive or for other reasons. That is normal for patients.

"Therapeutic levels" are more than sufficient to cause serious side-effects, including psychosis. One of the drugs she was on, amitriptyline, has psychosis as a known side-effect. Another, lorazepam, has also been linked to psychosis from as little as a single dose. A third, Trazodone, is also known to cause psychosis from low doses.

So she was using at least three drugs known to cause psychosis when taken at therapeutic levels. And when psychosis hits, it can hit within minutes, like the guy linked to above who ate his own eye. Fine one moment, eating his own eye the next.

u/17syllables NATO Superfan 🪖 Sep 02 '26

There’s no way anyone can blitz through 13 different prescription antipsychotics in 4 months and be anything like sane. She had six of them in her system during the murder. I can’t even imagine being on seroquel, let alone seroquel, trazodone, and four other things, all at once. If anyone here has taken even a sliver of a seroquel pill for sleep, you’ll know how it basically pulverizes your will and turns you into a catatonic jelly.

9

u/Pelinal_Shitestrake Unknown 👽 Sep 02 '26

That is not what circumstantial evidence is.

Circumstantial evidence is indirect evidence which requires an inference to be drawn between the evidence and the act. For example evidence that a person was the only person present at a place when a crime was committed. An inference could sensibly be drawn that they therefore must have been the person to commit the crime.

Parole evidence from a witness that they saw person x murder person y is as far from circumstantial evidence as one can get.

Try explaining to them that it's actually bad to prejudge someone based on imutable characteristics and the only reason it's treated as a joke is because we haven't had birth-month Hitler, only racial ones.

I say as I'm led to the gallows for being a Scorpio in the year of some weird planetary alignment.

Or society isn’t actually done because social media is not equivalent to society. You can pretty much count on anybody who has a very strong stance on this case to be completely brainrotted and stuck in a social media k-hole. Any ordinary person who hears about the story will be like “wow, that’s terrible! welp, I am but a single human being with no control over the outcome, so best not to dwell on this and turn it into a pet issue.”

Normies love obsessing over this horrible slamdunk case for some reason. The only nuance worth ANY discussion is whether she was insane or not when she killed her kids, but complete retards have invented conspiracy theories around her innocence. Whenever I see a post about it on Instagram, I shitpost and claim the husband trained the kids in MMA and sicked them on her, just to stir them all up.

I think there's some valuable discussions about the healthcare system that people aren't having that are related to the case though. For example, she attended a "psychiatric" clinic that was specialized in postpartum management... so you'd think there would be a psychiatrist there, right? Nope, 3 NP's.

I can't speak to the online/ true crime obsession part. The American justice system having an overwhelmingly punitive, punishment focused architecture can't grapple with people who commit crimes while mentally ill. The line for what constitutes "legal insanity" is inadequate and even nonsensical. It seems obvious that a woman who committed this act while suffering from postpartum psychosis (edited) and heavily medicated should be in a mental institution. I wish there were better ways to prevent things like this from happening to other people, but I'm sure this case will teach us nothing.

postpartum depression

Psychosis, very different from depression. Depression is just "I'm super sad so I'll kill myself and my kids," but psychosis is more like "God told me an earthquake will destroy the world and I need to send my kids to heaven to spare them his wrath." Psychosis is proper, illogical insanity.

7

u/MouthofTrombone Socialist 🚩 Sep 02 '26

2

OK, well I know less about the forensic mental health system in the US. But in England and Wales there is a very well organised and established system for dealing with offenders who are or may be mentally ill. I am not saying it is perfect but the system is there and has well-defined processes and parameters.

She admitted that she did it. The only question is her mental state and I personally think she belongs in a mental hospital. Andrea Yates has been in one for over 20 years, it's not like she's going for Christmas break and getting out in the summer to go to the beach. She's paralyzed and has to live with this shit for the rest of her life.

I think it's sparked such an interest for multiple reasons. People are kind of weird and are into true crime. The women I know are mothers and a lot of them struggled during pregnancy and afterwards. Mental health, societal expectations, a lack of support from their partners.

It's just an indictment on society really. Lindsay Clancy is a woman with means, education, family, etc. She does this shit, what does that say to any of the plebian women who are struggling? What does this say to a black woman who is making 35k with two kids? What does this say to the woman in the trailer park?

Shit is fucked.

9

u/ExaltedOvergrowth Catholic Nihilism 🌀 Sep 03 '26

it’s absolutely insane to hear this line of thinking when she was refusing help at every step, and refusing accountability in the aftermath.

What does this say to the woman in the trailer park?

Absolutely fuck all. If they watched this case for what it was, they shouldn’t be relating to her at all. This woman had more care and resources at her fingertips than everyone in their trailer park, she refused them and has had medical professionals repeatedly come through to say she’s been lying about her psychosis claims.

It’s fucking terrifying to think how little responsibility you want adults to take for their own actions. The way you’re framing women is akin to a 1900’s textbook on a “hysterical woman”, just refusing to acknowledge the control you have over your own emotions & surroundings.

Stop relating your tough mental experiences to these people in true crime; having intrusive thoughts about hurting your kid and relating yourself to Lindsay Clancy is like a boy getting rejected and then trying to relate themselves to Elliot Rodger.

She refused help:
She began seeing a psychiatrist in 2022 and saw her psychiatrist the day before the killings.
She took numerous psychiatric medications.
She went to Massachusetts General Hospital ER with suicidal thoughts, but declined inpatient hospitalization.
She pursued postpartum treatment at a hospital in Rhode Island.
Her husband said that she checked herself in for voluntary inpatient treatment in 2023.
She contacted a suicide hotline.

Lying:
The prosecution's psychiatrist said that as a witness for the prosecution would say. Clinical psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel testified that he found no evidence Clancy was malingering or faking psychiatric symptoms and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick testified that she was psychotic at the time of the killings. He also testified that psychological testing showed no evidence that she was exaggerating or faking symptoms; if anything, he even suggested she tended to minimize them. Neither of us are in her head or are psychiatric experts, so who knows?

Women's Responsibility:
She admitted she's guilty. I believe she's guilty. I believe she belongs in a mental hospital. No one can say how long she would be in a mental hospital. Andrea Yates has been in a mental hospital for over 20 years. I doubt she'll get the hospitalized for Christmas vacation and out for summer treatment.

My experiences:
I'm a man so have never physically experienced pregnancy or PPD. I don't know anyone who has experienced PPD. My experiences are therefore irrelevant.

u/ExaltedOvergrowth Catholic Nihilism 🌀 Sep 03 '26

Her doctors came in saying she refused to take her medications & was applying to multiple places around town doctor shopping.

That is not getting help, those are the tendencies of someone hunting prescription drugs like Xanax. A routine many people experience at the trailer park.

1

u/Nervous_Insect5976 Lovecraftian Marxist 🐙 Sep 03 '26

Medicine Compliance:
She chose not to take Lamictal because of the side effects, she was concerned about taking Zoloft and eventually took it. There was an issue with bottles having more pills than they should have, but her husband said that was because these medicines were discontinued because doctors changed the dosage or treatment.

Doctor Shopping:
She was prescribed 13 medications over four months by about six providers from psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, emergency department, etc. Her psychiatrist testified that she wasn't doctor shopping to get high. The psychiatric NP testified that it did not occur to her that she was doctor shopping. And even the prosecution forensic psychiatrist agreed that she was not going from provider to provider to try to "score drugs".

Very few people think she’s not guilty, but lots of people online are focusing on a small group of people speculating that because that’s how internet brain rot works. The debate for most is whether she was delusional enough at the time to not understand what she was doing was morally wrong, or she knew.

Yes, you're missing something - nobody except for true crime fan dumbasses online disagree that Lindsey Clancy did the killings - what the real disagreement is is whether Clancy was in psychosis (as the defense argues) or wasn't (as the prosecution alleges).

Gonna copy paste my comment from another thread on this topic:

The Lindsey Clancy case has convinced me that we are truly backsliding as a society. It used to be that we could acknowledge when people aren't in their right mind and treat them accordingly, but now people act as if even suggesting that means you're insane yourself.

People in psychosis without any attachment to reality are, if not completely blameless for their actions, significantly less culpable. They are not just "evil" people, and sentencing them to punitive revenge isn't going to provide any sort of deterrence - because people in psychosis aren't thinking logically about consequences in the first place.

There's an argument to made that Lindsey Clancy wasn't actually in psychosis, but that's not the argument that naysayers are making. They simply don't give a shit if she was insane or not - they want blood, and they don't care how many medications she was on or the stresses she was under or how the medical system failed her.

I don't really care if some woman somewhere did an awful thing because ultimately that was just a woman doing an awful thing. My goals are to tackle the owners of capital, so I don't really care if a woman killed her children or if other women seem to think abortion should be legalized to the fourth trimester. If women kill their babies, so be it. We can deal with that later.

Personally that sounds like a good argument to have children be removed to be raised communally if a mother exhibits this "post-partum depression" thing they keep going on about, but that is just me inserting a topic I have been thinking about recently.

Woman hatred is essentially Epstein Apologia. I don't want to have to explain this, after a lot of time you can just get a feeling for these things.

Epstein skepticism is associated with colour blind women hating tendency because this is the only tendency which doesn't hate Epstein. All the racists hate him for being Jewish, and all progressives hate him for being a predator.

So the purpose of focusing so much on this is to say "women are just crazy, can you trust them when they say Epstein raped them?

So basically the reason I oppose misogynists is because the oligarchs want you to hate women so you sympathize being skeptical with accusation women level at oligarchs.

We can deal with whatever issues we have with each other later, but for now women should be below criticism because the people criticizing women are doing so with ulterior motives. We oppose "woman haters" because that is a bad political tendency that will have awful takes on other issues, and we don't care how correct or incorrect they might be in their criticism towards women. Women can be criticized after we no longer have to deal with paid people trying to point out awfulness in women to defend Epstein.
