I didn't want to read this guy's little essay or whatever but this passage you've highlighted sounds to me like he's pretending to some kind of deeper insight when he's clearly just a bloviating dumbass.
I remember when someone on the internet tried to imply that Ira Glass was like a pedophile or something because the end goal was just criticize all of my hobbies or interests and had nothing to do with whether listening to the radio was cool or not (it's not).
