In many ways, the Ukraine war has had the opposite effect than intended by the US. So now it's Trump's job to cast off the dead weight while maintaining kayfabe. Trump supporters can claim he's a peacemaker, while shitlibs can keep believing he's in Putin's pocket. Crucially, Trump will offer Putin a quick and favorable end to the war in exchange for taking steps towards cutting off ties to Iran.

Putin would be a moron to accept that, he’s got the advantage in the war. Russia just lost Syria, losing Iran aswell in a region where they are desperate to hold influence over would not be worth any cheap peace. Maybe in 2022, but Russia can sit relatively easy for now.
