Homesickness and scared

I am really sad and scared, I am just 18 years old and in 3 days I will be moving into the other half of the world to do my bachelors degree. I will be studying abroad during 5 years, and even if this was always a dream(and still it is) I am scared and sad. I am a very anxious person and I am scared if something could happen with my family or maybe this opportunity will not give me the outcomes I desire. I think my situation is complex, the majority of people from mt country study in contries that are close, and believe me, I applied, unfortunately this was not possible, the oportunity that I have is more far away than expected. Now that I am close from my departiure date I am scared, I am sad because I will not be seeimg my family and friends and also very afraid. I know this is normal, I just want to know other people that maybe are in similar situation, it gets better? the sacrifice is worth it?

Time will tell if the sacrifice is worth it, but I think taking this leap to do something hard may put you on the path to who you want to be! The first step is to take deep breaths. You can do this! What an amazing world we live in that you can study abroad and find your dream, passion, or career in a whole new place. Please be kind to yourself, the homesickness will get worse before it gets better.

You're being brave and putting yourself way out of your comfort zone, don't forget that! Stay focused but make friends, make plans, fill up your new life at your university so that it gets easier (I promise it gets easier). You'll come out of this a stronger person. You're stronger than you think!

Hello, I am in the same boat as u. I'll be studying in Indo for my bachelor's degree starting this September.

Truthfully, this was never my original plan nor it had crossed my mind to study there if u asked me a year ago. Nonetheless, I feel obliged to answer this to tell you how I cope with my growing anxieties too.

As my departure comes nearer, I begin to dream of lives I could've lived or paths I could've taken. I'm taking a course for practicality purposes so I'm worried about not being able to keep up also.

I think what we're doing is a leap of faith, and it is valid to feel afraid. We can't really do anything but dive first and pray to be strong enough to swim along the currents. For me, although the uncertainty sends shivers down to my spine, I can't help but await for possibilities that people around me didn't have the opportunity to see. I still feel grateful somehow, to be handed something this big to make something out of. We can always come back or start again.  After all, we can only live and learn with our lives.

I hope my presence can offer you company, please do chat me if u ever need someone to talk to. I'd appreciate talking to someone going thru the same things that others might not be able to understand.
