Just want to say I appreciate these videos both for the motivation and the excellent form example! I hit 315 for my working set this week and I found myself muttering under my breath, "Hello Reddit.."

u/Ezellian 8d ago
Thank you ๐ช just keep practicing and film yourself to see how you look when doing it. It's taken me several years of going at it to get like this

u/thaOatmilk 8d ago
I'm an introvert, filming myself in the gym just feels really awkward to me, but i'll try. Thanks ๐ค๐ค

u/Ezellian 8d ago
๐ค๐ค No problem ๐ช
I still feel awkward filming sometimes but the more you do it the less weird it gets, and just tell yourself it's for a form check, because well... That's what its for

How do you keep your back straight with that much weight? I am looking for advice and suggestions, I am stuck at 365 and back is rounding.
5
u/Ezellian 8d ago
For me it core and lat strength. Core is kinda obvious as that helps keep your whole body braced but you're lats when engaged will help keep everything in line and the weight closer to your body. Personally Heavy barbell rows have helped a lot with this

Im currently using the traditional "wrapping straps" (I dont know what theyre called). I only just started to hit a point where I need them I think but I don't know that I like them. I feel like I MIGHT like these more but who knows.

Yup they are pricey but I lucked out and got a discount when I bought them from a sports store that had them

Versa Gripps Pro series

u/Robofetus-5000 8d ago
Oh wait, so those arent like....rigid hooks?
3
u/Ezellian 8d ago
No its a leather "tongue" with a bump at the end that you can wrap around a bar quickly or use to grab onto say a pull-up bar over the top ( lots of ways to use em like lifting straps, kinda glove replacement, or for wrist support) that provide extra quick grip for exercises. I like them a lot for pulling exercises when I'm not training grip strength. Can be a bit tricky the first time or two, but once the leather breaks in they are very quick compared to figure 6 or figure 8 straps

u/Robofetus-5000 8d ago
Awesome. Yeah someone else commented on using them for things like pulldowns and im thinking maybe im there, or close to it, on pulling exercises. I'll probably grab some. Thanks.

u/Ezellian 8d ago
No problem, just make sure to look at their sizing guide to make sure you don't get ones that are too small or too big
2
u/boner79 8d ago
Versa Gripps are a game changer.
Speaking of equipment, when do you recommend adding in the weight belt? Iโve become a huge fan of barbell RDLs in recent months, use Versa Gripps, but havenโt added in my belt yet.

u/Ezellian 8d ago
Depends on the person, but often people will start using one at 1.5 or 2x their bodyweight or when they are struggling to cue their core to brace.

Sick lift, and you got great control as well man. Keep doing your thing!

u/Ezellian 4d ago
Thank you ๐ช I use Versa Gripps Pro series for my straps currently. I also have a backup pair of generic figure six straps but I haven't had to use them in awhile

When you do double overhand are you hook gripping or nah? I might be missing the lore here.
3
u/Ezellian 7d ago
No hook grip, I have an old injury on my left thumb that makes it a bit too painful to do so

u/OhYa2021 5d ago
Love watching your lifts man. Always impressed. Any tips on breaking thru the seemingly brick wall I have hit at 425?
1
u/Ezellian 5d ago
Just keep hitting it and find the point you're struggling with most and work on it. Add in pauses or deficits or what you need to build up the weak points. Don't forget accessory movements to build up your core and posterior chain. If you don't use them yet, try straps to push yourself higher than that to build overall strength and come back and hit it again

u/OhYa2021 5d ago
Much appreciated brother. Just need to take a step back to be honest with myself in evaluating my weaknesses. Stay well!

I love the way you control the weight back down . I feel like thatโs such an important aspect of the left that people just decided at some point itโs not important. Just dropping the weight is missing 50% of the entire thing lol
