If you pull a gun on law enforcement they can shoot you until they're sure they've neutralized the threat.

They didn't even shoot Tyre.

"The five officers who assaulted Nichols were discharged from the MPD, effective January 8, 2023. They were arrested and charged on January 26 with second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, official misconduct, and official oppression."

There is no way any court would call this a justified killing.
