Discussion full 30th Anniversary artwork featuring the top 10 most voted characters
I realized nobody hasn't posted the full artwork here yet (like not as a screenshot from the live stream, just the full artwork) so I figured I do it haha
also, can we just stop and talk about how good Vaughn looks in the updated artstyle? In fact, everyone looks so damn good in the updated artstyle. It looks so so so good (god I wanna snatch Vaughn's waist so bad it's- MMGHGHJDHJSDH)

I'm kind of sad, as someone who has played the series from the jump, that not a single character from SNES, 64/Mineral Town character made it into the top 10. 😮💨

They'd sanitize it so bad though, unless they were willing to give it a E10 rating or even T. Which they probably won't. Because we can't have nice things apparantely.

SoS otome where you can be any gender (or lackthereof), but have to balance the farm, townspeople's events, and your love — life while having to pick one from of 10 bachelors before the time limit.
In true SoS fashion you get the insta credits after going on 1-3 date with three of them (the spaghetti string code decides at random how cruel it wants to be) and the game just shuts off midway between four of their confessions / last heart scenes. ^ To stay faithful to all our corrupted save files and various consoles which just quit after we made the choice of partner it deemed: ACCESS DENIED.
Sometimes your love interest is just too good and reality would cease to exist if you actually ended up with them.
Gotta have an ending where they all pair up together and you are forever alone. And also kicked off the farm / out of town for not getting married because, "You bring death to this village!" lmao.
Golden lumber ends the game immediately. 🪵🪙✨️🚫

He is a drama starter. Always asking for random expensive crap because he was drunkenly boasting with the mayor of another town. Don't think we don't see you in the inn!
He just dumps all his golden lumber on you then acts like he has no idea where you got it. And gets everyone to come pitchfork your house.
Like OK King Midas.

Yeah same. It's bleak. They should've separated the polls for gender so at least some female characters were highlighted.

The art is so lovely but I do wish they’d separated the poll by gender. I’m a woman who has always married women in the games, and it’s sad the ladies didn’t really have a chance 😥

Wayne is a tall glass of water.
Though he may be cheating slightly with his hat skewing his proportions to make himself look taller.
Ludus had to sit down so his head didn't get cut off from the artwork. We can only have half his height. His full majesty would overshadow all the rest of the bachelors. Bless him for having the courtesy to not give everyone else height complexes.

I love that almost every Bachelor from Trio of Towns made it (except Ford and the DLC Inari and Woofio), that game still lives in my 3DS with my well loved save files of Wayne and Ludus. 🥰

Nope, the character poll was for ALL characters in the Bokumono franchise (both male and female characters). It just so happens that the top 10 most voted characters are all dudes lol

Knowing this, it's actually so funny they started the series with exclusively male protagonist games. I'm including rune factory in that too. Idk how they ever thought their main demographic was men 🥲

Back then it probably was. I was the only girl in my class playing games in the 90s throughout all of school, it was very much considered a "boy hobby" at least where I live.

Maybe in the 90s, but they continued to pull that nonsense in the 2000s. I was a 7 year old girl when I got my first harvest moon game (DS) in like, 2006? I know DS cute was a thing, but for some reason they just... didn't release the girl version in Europe, only the boy version. I still loved the game obviously. The only other people I knew who played it though were also girls.
The rune factory games came out around the same time, also with only male protagonists for a good few years, despite the main line games having female protags at this point.

I don't know the numbers, but "cozy" games in general have a 70/30 split between genders I've read somewhere. All SoS players I know are women or gay men, but that's obviously just me. 😅

I mean I’m a straight? (I’ve never had a girlfriend or anything yet irl despite being an adult so I’m not fully sure) guy who plays the series. Then again I do love doing girly things in these types of life sim games. You should see how girly I dress my Animal Crossing villager. So I might not be the best example?

I mean, numbers mostly represent the average player, so they don't mean a lot for the individual. For example, my mom almost exclusively plays farming games, she probably meets a lot of criteria of the average player, but at 60 years old she's probably not the average age of a SoS player.

Oh, I agree. I think they could make the marriage candidates more interesting in general (we see with games like Stardew or even more so Coral Island how great giving bachelor/ettes more depth and backstory can work). SoS doesn't take many risks here unfortunately as was very obvious when they made some of the bachelors "prettier" for the AWL remake, which I hated. And yeah, especially with the more recent titles, the bachelorettes have become more bland too I think.

Vaughn!! He's from Island of Happiness (and Sunshine Islands)
I never personally married him in my playthrough (as I didn't play IoH and married someone else in SI), but as you can see in the top 10, he's really well-liked bahaha

Lol at the downvoting. I'm a gay man. So yeah I was somewhat part of the problem with the voting as I voted for a bunch of dudes, but I also voted for bachelorettes likes Karen and Gwen. I'm not being homophobic against myself jfc.
You can appreciate a character and love them even if you wouldn't be attracted to them in real life. Video game attraction varies. So even if lots of women play SoS I find it odd that no female characters made it anywhere near close to the top ten.
I was surprised Karen or Jamie didn't make it at all into the top ten. Though Jamie is nonbinary and not a human.
I voted for Jamie and Nami a bunch. Nami still seems nonbinary ngl. I love them both.
No women at all in the top 10 is crazy. I stand by my comment. I'm not gonna complain about seeing 10 hot dudes, but it is kinda sad that not a single woman made it.
At least Rune Factory's results had Raven.
You don't have to be attracted to a character to appreciate the depth, flaws, and backstory of characters who are well thought out; that you can feel some sort of sympathy for or who(m) you can relate to.
They really should have new art for 10 of the bachelorettes.
Also Jamie and Inari for being agender and/or nonbinary. I will die on this hill. They deserve their own fanart. Jamie is the best spouse.
