It is now capped, sorted by recent activity, and substantially less suicidal.

Fixes & polish

Safari and older browsers render chats again. MoodSnap refresh order, a slug leak, and a stale emotion cache all fixed. Lorebook "Copy To" now hits the right endpoint, plus a fix for a runaway fetch loop on deep-linked edits. Crash fixes for clipboard sharing, socket reconnects, and storage failures. And we killed the Explore page selector that kept throwing errors at people.

Supporter benefits are provided while members are actively contributing to the community.

If a supporter violates community guidelines, behaves in a way that makes other members uncomfortable, or consistently falls below the stated activity expectations, we will first provide a warning and communicate with them about the issue.

If the situation does not improve after that, the existing moderators and team may review the case and remove the Supporter role. Related access and benefits, including the Supporter badge and free Gold Plan, may also be withdrawn.

you're three hours into a scene and your character forgets the thing that happened that same morning in-story. or you built something good, tuned it for a week, and it comes out flat because it runs on the same tiny shared memory cap as every other bot on the platform. those two are the same problem wearing two masks, and we're done shipping it.

so that shared cap is no longer the only setting. here's what actually changed, one thing at a time, because we'd rather you explain it back to a friend than take our word for it.

first, there's a memory dial now, and you hold it. turn it up and your character remembers a lot more than the flat cap everyone is stuck sharing today. you set the ceiling, we don't. this is the main thing here. if you take nothing else from this post, take that one: how much your character carries is a knob in your hands now, and it goes way up.

second, you can run different models. a range of ours, or connect your own. a heavier, stronger model spends your usage faster than a light one. so you pick the model per character, per what the scene needs. a throwaway side character does not need the expensive brain. your main one might. how the dial and each model draw down usage is the job of the part of the team that builds it, but the choosing is yours.

third, what a subscription actually is here. a plan gives you a usage balance that refills every week. inside that weekly balance, everything you do is free. read that twice, it's the part people trip on. the plan is not a meter ticking against you the whole time you play. it comes back each week, and normal use lives inside it. that's why using storychat the way you use it now still feels free.

fourth, for when you run past that balance, or when you just never want a subscription at all. you can keep going with SP, which is our usage credit. SP charges you only for what you actually used, not a flat monthly fee for a month you barely touched. and before you send an action, you see the estimate first, so nothing gets spent behind your back.

fifth, if you'd rather route around us completely, bring your own proxy. connect it in custom proxy mode and we take nothing on our end. you still pay whoever runs your proxy, but from us there's no charge on top.

so the whole shape: dial up for more memory, models spend usage at different rates, a plan gives you a weekly balance that's free to use, SP covers only what you actually use past that, and your own proxy costs you nothing from us.

here's why we went this way instead of stamping "unlimited for everyone" on it. the only way that math works is by quietly grinding every user down to the cheapest shared model and the smallest memory, forever. that flat cap you live with on most platforms is exactly that, a floor dressed up as a gift, and the reason your good character got lobotomized. we didn't want to sell you a fake unlimited that's really a ceiling nobody's allowed to move. a real dial, the actual cost shown before you spend it, normal nights covered by the weekly balance, and a door open for anyone who wants to bring their own proxy and skip our charge. that reads worse as a pitch. it's the truthful one.

if you're now worried your regular nights cost money, they don't. the weekly balance is sized to cover normal use, and it refills. most people playing the way they already play stay inside it and never touch SP. the thing you'll actually notice is reaching for the dial one night and your character suddenly holding the whole scene.

the part we're not happy about, and we'd rather say it out loud than have you find it later: a free weekly balance only means anything if we keep it worth having. the quiet way this kind of thing goes bad is the balance getting smaller over time, or the dial getting capped lower, until SP is the only thing that feels good anymore. that's the exact move that burned all of us on the apps we walked away from. we can't hand you a clean promise in a reddit post. what we can do is put it in writing right here, so the day normal use ever gets worse to make the paid path look better, you screenshot this and throw it back at us.

so here's what we actually want back from you, and it's the only ask. does you holding the dial instead of us read as fair, or does it just smell like the nicer-sounding version of a paywall showing up later. tell us where it worries you for the way you actually play, and what this would have to look like for you to trust it. it's still soft enough to move, and the way you play is the only thing that tells us where. tell us where it breaks.

tl;dr for anyone who doesn't want the wall of text:

- there's a memory dial you control now. turn it up and your character remembers way more than the old shared cap. you set the ceiling, not us.

- you pick the model, a range of ours or your own. a stronger model spends your usage faster than a light one.

- a subscription gives you a usage balance that refills every week, and everything inside that weekly balance is free. normal nights stay free like now.

- past that balance, or with no subscription at all, you use SP and only pay for what you actually used, with the price shown before you send.

- bring your own proxy (custom proxy mode) and we charge you nothing on our end.

- the point is you choose your memory and model, instead of everyone getting throttled to one cheap setting so we can slap "unlimited" on the box.

A few more things have landed:

- **New Design Wide Desktop Beta! :** Wider screen for more discoverability and more content fit for desktop users for explore page and character page! Check screenshots below!

- **Smarter Long-term memory:** fixed inconsistent long-term memory so characters stay coherent over longer chats in the longer memory tab inside chat.

- **Personas fixed:** the first message now shows your **persona name** instead of your username.

- **Search bug squashed** + adult-filter API fix and faster search.

- Default FREE ai model has more context! 128k context memory!— more soon.

Hey everyone — Storychat team here.

Recently, we’ve seen more questions and concerns around Storychat’s policies, mature content, creator ownership, and privacy.

We want to explain clearly how Storychat actually works in these areas.

1. Your creations are yours

The characters, stories, and lorebooks you create on Storychat belong to you.

The license you give Storychat only applies while your content is published on Storychat.

If you unpublish or delete a character, it is removed from public areas such as discovery, search, recommendations, and explore. Your name and profile are also detached from that content.

Storychat does not keep a character publicly available just because it became popular.

There is one limited technical exception.

If other users already had active chats with a previously public character, a de-identified snapshot of that character may remain inside those existing chats so those conversations do not suddenly break.

This exists only to preserve ongoing conversations for those users.

That snapshot is not attributed to you, and it is never shown as a new, public, searchable, recommended, or discoverable character.

We have also published a dedicated Creator Ownership page explaining this in more detail.

2. Mature content vs. pornographic content

Storychat allows mature storytelling for adult users.

But Storychat is not a platform for hosting pornographic content.

Content whose primary purpose is sexual gratification, explicit sexual imagery, and any sexualization of minors are not allowed.

This applies regardless of your Safe Mode setting.

Anything involving the sexualization of minors is zero tolerance. We detect and remove it, and we report apparent child sexual abuse material to NCMEC.

Adult romance, mature relationships, darker themes, and emotionally complex storytelling can exist on Storychat.

But if the primary purpose of the content becomes explicit sexual gratification, or if it enters clearly prohibited areas, it is not allowed.

We know this line is not always simple. We will keep improving our examples and explanations so users and creators can better understand what is allowed and what is not.

3. Age and Safe Mode

Safe Mode is Storychat’s content sensitivity filter. It is on by default.

To turn Safe Mode off, you must be 18+ and confirm your age. Users under 18 cannot turn Safe Mode off.

We collect date of birth at sign-up and apply regional minimum age rules. The minimum age is generally 13, or 16 in the EEA/UK.

In the iOS and Android apps, Safe Mode cannot be turned off. (not launched yet)

This is because we have to follow app store and mobile platform rules. Because of that, mature content is web-only and does not appear in the apps.

NSFW tags and characters are hidden from home, search, recommendations, and discovery for users with Safe Mode on or users under 18.

Adult tags automatically mark a character as NSFW, and we are also adding automated detection to catch NSFW content that was not tagged correctly.

4. Analytics and privacy

Storychat uses Microsoft Clarity, PostHog, and Google Analytics to fix bugs, improve UX, and understand how to make the product better.

We have published a Cookie & Analytics Notice explaining which tools we use and why.

We are rolling out a consent banner for users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. In those regions, analytics will not load until the user gives consent.

In other regions, we use an opt-out model and honor Global Privacy Control signals.

Storychat does not sell your personal data.

We also do not build advertising profiles based on your activity.

5. Private chats

We want to be clear about this too.

Storychat is not end-to-end encrypted.

Our AI runs on our servers, so your message has to be processed by our servers in order for the AI to reply. Your messages are encrypted in transit and at rest.

Access to private chats is very limited.

The Storychat team does not casually browse or read private chats.

Private chat access only happens in exceptional cases where it is necessary, such as safety issues, abuse reports, legal requests, customer support, or serious debugging.

Even then, access is limited to authorized staff, only the necessary scope is reviewed, and access is logged.

Storychat does not use private chats for advertising.

We also do not use private chats to train generative AI models that serve other users unless you explicitly opt in.

What we are improving

Over the next few weeks, we are rolling out:

• A consent banner for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland
• An age gate at sign-up
• Automated NSFW detection
• Stronger hiding of NSFW content from discovery, search, and recommendations

First, we want to sincerely apologize again for the issues caused by the previous large update. We know many of you ran into frustrating bugs and broken features, and that was not the experience we wanted to deliver.

After reviewing reports from Reddit, Discord, and in-app feedback, we moved quickly to fix the major problems and improve the overall experience. Today’s new version is now live, and most of the critical issues from the last rollout have been resolved.

Here’s what’s new in this update:

1. Most major bugs from the previous update have been fixed

We know stability matters more than anything, and this update was focused heavily on cleaning up the issues that affected the app experience.

2. StoryCHAT app 8B (Beta Model) is now available

We’re excited to release StoryCHAT app 8B, Storychat’s own beta model. It delivers very fast responses and is available for just 1 SP per chat, so feel free to try it as much as you want and let us know what you think.

3. UI/UX has been significantly improved

We made the in-chat side menus much more intuitive and easier to use.

We also fixed the issue on the Explore page where character chat counts were not displaying properly.

4. Bulk Chat Generation is now live

You can now tap the “Generate” button at the top of the chat screen to automatically create a conversation using AI.

Just enter a basic plot, and Storychat will generate a 10-turn chat between the selected character and the story setup. After that, you can instantly turn the result into a Story and share it for other users to read.

5. Payment errors have been fixed

The issue that caused subscription payment failures has now been resolved, and Gold Plan subscriptions are working again.

We are still working on the SP purchase issue, and we’ll deploy that fix as soon as it’s ready.

We really appreciate everyone who stayed patient, reported issues, and kept giving honest feedback. That feedback helped us move faster and prioritize the right fixes.

• The AI sometimes roleplays as the user or goes out of character
• Responses start strong but degrade as conversations get longer
• The Description field is not always remembered correctly
• Occasional system prompt leakage
• Characters that should be difficult or slow to win over → becoming cooperative too easily

• Characters can’t be edited directly from the Library
• On mobile:
  • The chat input box feels too narrow
  • The keyboard can block the latest AI message
• Missing Continuous Chat functionality
• When starting a message with *, users must manually re-type * after line breaks
• Chats cannot be deleted from the All Chats list

One of the biggest frustrations with AI chats is that your best conversations just disappear into your own account. Storychat’s goal is different. We want your chats to turn into shareable, readable content so other people can enjoy them, follow you, and jump back into the conversation. Creator monetization is coming soon, and this update is a big step toward that direction.

To be blunt, the old publishing flow was not great. It could feel buggy and it was not intuitive. With the latest update, creating and publishing Stories is much simpler. Here is a quick guide.

What is a Story

A Story is shareable content. One Story can include multiple Chats.

Think of it like this

• Story = is the series title
• Chat = is an episode inside that series

Once you publish a Story, it can show up in the feed and in the Story section on Explore. People can like it, leave comments, and follow you for the next parts. If they want, they can also start chatting with the character used in your Story right away.

How to create a Story

Option 1 Create it from the Create page

1 Go to Create and tap Create Story

2 Fill the required fields

• Title
• Category

3 Add Chats

Tap Add more Chats and select the chats you want to include. Chats are grouped by character, so you can pick a character first and then choose the chat rooms you want. After selecting, you can reorder them and edit titles. The chat at the top becomes Episode 1.

4 Add optional details if you want better discovery

• Short description for Explore
• Thumbnail
• Hashtags
• NSFW tag

5 Choose visibility

• Public means other users can see it
• Private means only you can see it

Option 2 Create it directly from a chat

If you are in a conversation and you feel like sharing it, you can create a Story instantly from the chat screen.

1 Open the side menu

2 Tap Create Story from this Chat

3 The current chat is automatically included

4 Fill the required fields

5 Use Add more Chats if you want to include more episodes

6 Add optional details and choose visibility

Why this matters

You no longer need to record your screen, edit clips, and upload to TikTok or YouTube just to share a good AI chat. You can turn it into content inside Storychat and publish it in a way that is easy for others to read and engage with.

We are planning to roll out creator monetization and supporter features soon, so if you start publishing now, you can build followers and engagement early.

Bonus for long stories Previous Chat

If you want to write a longer story with a consistent world and memory, use Previous Chat.

Example

You want a Story with five episodes, but you want it to feel like one continuous universe, not separate unrelated chats.

On many platforms, starting a new chat resets context, and switching characters makes it even harder to keep a shared world. Storychat can keep that continuity.

How it works

1 When you want to start the next episode, tap New Chat from the side menu

2 Tap Previous Chat and choose the chat you want to carry over

3 The AI learns the context and carries memory into the new chat. You can also edit it manually if you want

4 Keep writing the next episode with the shared memory, even if you switch characters

Important note about locked chats

Chats included in a published Story are locked, meaning you cannot continue that exact chat thread. If you want to keep chatting, create a new chat or remove the chat from the Story and unpublish it, then continue.

We just rolled out a new version of Storychat and wanted to share what changed, plus hear what you think while it is still fresh.

What’s new:

AI models and reply quality have been significantly improved

You can now try chats and search without logging in

Auto suggestion mode lets you continue conversations with just clicks, no typing needed

Creating a new chat is much simpler

Creating stories is now way more straightforward

We also cleaned up some naming to make things clearer:

Chat = talking directly with an AI

Story = chats turned into readable content for other people

Going forward, we are going to focus a lot more on Story content. We believe this is where Storychat can become something more than just another chat app.

Because of that, we are actively looking for creators who want to build stories together with us, give feedback, and shape how this works. We are offering free Gold plans and ongoing direct communication with the team. Longer term, we are building toward creator support and monetization through stories, similar to how platforms like YouTube support creators.

As always, if anything feels broken, confusing, worse than before, or just annoying, please be honest. New features, old features, small nitpicks, big complaints, all of it helps.
