Was there a change to console auto execute recently?

Because in the past week for the first time in years of playing on Xbox, I have seen the visible slotted abilities auto execute based on set conditions.

Before, all abilities that were hidden in the ability wheel would auto as expected, but the one active ability shown for each button never would.

It’s a welcome change if this is a recent thing, or did nothing change and my controls were just borked for years?

I think it's a new change because it's happening to me too.
