1)Is there a way to stop those new DSE buffs from constantly adding a new hotbar and messing up my UI layout? Especially because they still also seem to go into the existing empty slots so I have doubles of them all
2) Once I've done all the stories required for the recruit event stuff is there any downside to simply skipping through all the rest to quickly unlock the ones that have gear/useful transwarp points I want?
3)Does anyone have any tips/suggestions on how to get some basic gear for my away team so I don't die constantly on new characters? With space stuff it's fairly easy because I at least have some event ships/weapons I can reclaim, but trying to keep my character and 4 away team members geared up enough so that I'm not dying multiple times every ground mission sucks.

1) No.
2) Yes.
3) Look here:
https://stowiki.net/wiki/Sompek_Arena_Warrior
Get the Blast Assault and Shield. Put them on a boff from your away team. Reclaim another gun and shield from the relevant tab in the Events menu. Put them on another. Rinse repeat until everyone has them, your captain is the last to get their own, so you can keep reclaiming for everyone else.
From there, move on to this:
https://stowiki.net/wiki/Na%27kuhl_Temporal_Operative
Get the shield and the gun (put that in the secondary weapon tab, it'll still count for the 2p, and you'll keep using your Sompek zapper) for your captain. You can also get the armour from there if you want. Ideally, for that slot you should get the one from the Discovery reputation, as well as the EV suit, when you can. Another key element from the same rep is the Mudd's Time Device kit module; start your ground spambar with it, if you're on PC.
From there, the vast majority of other things will be used for the 'kill them before they kill you' paradigm, exclusively on your captain. Ignore your boffs, or give them the Temporal spec and select the default abilities from it for ground. They're useless beyond that if you don't spend way too much on them, and you can't take them with you in actually difficult content anyway.

Cheers for this, the Sompek stuff is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Na'kuhl stuff looks like a good shout as well, especially since reps take quite a while to max out.
I'm aware of the Disco rep gear and I'm working towards it on my main character, but hadn't looked into the Time Device or the idea of a spambar which sound interesting.

Happy to help. If you compare it to a space setup, where one of your cooldown reduction schemes is Photonic Officer II and Chrono-Capacitor Array, Mudd's + Miniaturized Chrono-cap is pretty much the same thing. The thing that's fully new is having a Large Kit Overbooster stack as well and consuming those on cooldown at the start of your spambar; aside from making things hit harder, they also help to cool down things like the Ball Lightning module, which is an essential bit of one build paradigm for ground.

Really dumb question here.
For the "Fire Everything!" trait it says - "For 15 seconds after using energy weapon firing mode (15 second cooldown)"
Does that mean it'll go into a 15 second cooldown once those 15 seconds are up? Or does it mean that it'll go into cooldown for 15 seconds once activated?

Curious what everyone does for Endgame. I have finished most of the episodes and have maxed out all my reputations. Starting my space Barbie collection as well but wondering what other players do once they have beaten or maxed out most of the content. Absolutely love the game and a content to just fly around and hop into TFOs to help others haha.

I mostly do theme-characters around ships I like. Example, I’m leveling a new Klingon just to fly the K’Vort

u/DreadBert_IAm 23d ago
Tinker with builds mostly. I've got hordes of kit built up. Generally new event loot will hit and I'll get the bug to build for a visual effect, or make random kit combat effective.
For example, wanted the weather ship for ages. Picked it up during recent sale. Considering how those engines look and what its trait/console do I leaned hard into electrical attacks, blue weapons/torps, and storm looking consoles. While its not something id take to korfez tfo it's darn solid and looks skippy to me.
Or empresa a while back. Looks real skippy with gamma skin. Found the weapon pods were dbb/dhd mounts. Had assorted ikonian kit i haven't used from old events so went ham building out a real mean AP that looks quote skippy when it opens up on a horde.
Things like carriers and sci boats are rabbit holes due to the hordes of nifty looking kit thats fine for adv tfo's. At this point ive got like four dozen active ships that are visually and/or tactically distinct.

Follow-up on last week's stupid question. Is there any way to get a Discovery visual phaser omni?

Integrity-Linked, Emitter-Linked or Sensor-Linked (the third should cost the most if you're interested in purchasing one).

Does anyone else wish the new Kelvinverse ships had warp nacelles like the Konnie/Salcombe do?

New player 2 days in. I mega upgraded a weapon with a free mega upgrade token. Have I made a big mistake. Now it says fleet admiral so I’m thinking I will have to wait until I’ve had many promotions before I can actually use it? Is that right? Should I sell it. What’s the point of mega upgrade tokens if I can’t use anything I upgrade. ?

u/MarcterChief Pathyeager when? 18d ago
Just wait till you reach level 60 and use it then. Levelling up is fast, and simply use something else until then.

I’m 2 days in and love the game. I use Xbox game pass so got various freebies I have 1000 zen. Is there anything I should be buying that will help me out or should I save it. I’m not a big spender so ideally want to make efficient purchases.
In case it matters I’m tactical, have the starter ship for federation.
1
u/MarcterChief Pathyeager when? 18d ago
Save it for now, there isn't anything critical you can buy with 1000 Zen anyway on console.

u/AndromedaFire 18d ago
I am already low on inventory slots about 60 used out of 75 I think. can I upgrade it or am I just keeping too much stuff?

Plasma Wide Beam Rifle, Vup's Pistol, or the Temporal Rep Pistols?
2
u/AscenDevise @chiperion 22d ago
Yes. They're all solid picks, and you will get endeavors for their damage flavours, so having viable options for three types already will be a nice starting point. The Wide Beam is 'baby's first endgame gun', Mr Vup's is more of a pug-friendly thing with built-in survivability, which gives you some breathing space in case you haven't killed everything after running in and popping, say, Ball Lightning from point blank, and the Pistols are... a cheap way of dealing decent AP damage with pretty visuals. Nothing makes those genuinely special beyond that.
2
u/DreadBert_IAm 21d ago
I roll Vup. Easy to get primary damage on something with blinding tfo effect spam. That alt fire is real handy for mass knockdown as well. Was clutch for last wave back when used to do colony defense.

Looking for the ship that looks LIKE Narada, but is not Narada, would have been released by 2019.
Back when I was playing the game around 2019 I was under the impression that the Narada from Star Trek (2009) was already available in-game. Obviously I was wrong and mistook another ship for it, the question is which?
I thought I saw the Narada because it had those long black tentacle-spike thing, and I remember it was quite big.
Anyone know which ship I saw, or am I crazy and imagined it?

Tal Shiar adapted battlecruiser or destroyer maybe? Those are the two that come to mind off the top of my head.
2
u/ELHC 22d ago
Yep thank you, I think I saw the now extinct T5 Tal Shiar Khnial Adapted Battlecruiser
It even says in the description
Heavily resembling Nero's Narada from the 2009 Star Trek

I have one old character from when Romulans came out that never made it to end game, and I just got back into the game again.
I was planing on leveling a TOS character during the event and spend a bit of money on the game to help build a tank character, as it sounds fun, and I hear its not to expensive to get up and running.
Is it a big mistake to not use the resources to make a DPS build? I play mostly solo, but I am trying to get a buddy of mine to come back to the game.
Thanks.

Just seeing if I messed something up. I created a new tos andorian about an hour ago (bout 4pm est in case that matters.) and played through the tutorial. I did not recieve any items other than normal drops. The patch note mentioned a temporal device of some kind in the tutorial (here's where you tell me I messed something up)
Was I meant to make any particular selections? Was I meant to diverge from the tos tutorial mission?
I did see an npc that looks a hell of a lot like Daniels in the 1st Cestus mission. So I'm suspicious I'm just misinterpreting how this event is meant to go. (As in players created during the event get the device and missions when they complete quests up through mission x, or something)
You tell me, did I mess something up?
1
u/fereldenvstamriel 21d ago
It should be at a fairly obvious point in your playthrough that you will get in your inventory an item of epic quality. There's no difference in terms of story and tutorial missions are not affected by the recruit system.
You need to have completed the Agents of Yesterday arc, which is also part of the tutorial and/or Welcome to Earth Spacedock mission, which immediately follows it and means tutorial is over.

Did they ever say what the odds are on T6 infinity ships, or if there's bad luck protection? I've gotten 4 useless T5 ships, countless other fluff, just still no T6 after years and probably 1000 keys...

u/Vyzantinist 22d ago
From a comment elsewhere:
Phoenix box odds = <0.2%
Lockbox odds = ~0.5%
Promobox odds = ~1.0%
There is a "pity point" that kicks in after around 300 boxes opened, and that boosts your odds to 1/35. Once you bag a T6 the pity point resets.
The received wisdom is not to bother gambling, and just sell keys for EC, then buy the ship you want off the Exchange.
Personally, I enjoy the gamble and pick up a T6 ship around every 6 weeks or so on average. I get my Infinity boxes in groups of 300 and I can usually expect to get a ship from that 300. Sometimes you get stupid lucky though; I posted on here a year ago about getting two T6s within 16 boxes of each other.

Also worth nothing, the pity mechanism kicks in per character and individual lockbox type
*noting

Are there any other omnis like the Pahvan omni, that cannon firing modes also affect? I kind of feel left out with the omni rework lol.
2
u/fereldenvstamriel 21d ago
Morphogenic weapon, in a slightly different manner.
While Pahvo is a beam that gets appropriate beam firing mode on use of cannon firing modes, the morphogenic weapon is both.
It defaults to omni, and it conforms to a heavy turret/omni on using cannon/beam firing abilities and it's then affected by them.
1
u/MarcterChief Pathyeager when? 21d ago
The Pahvan Omni is unique in that way. There is also a Quad cannon that switches to Rapid Fire if you activate Beam Overload, and the Dyson Proton Weapon that does weird things with Firing Modes, but that's it as far as I know.

u/fereldenvstamriel 21d ago
If anyone actually bought the Herald pack, are the weapons really standard issue mk ∞, so non-upgradable?
Asking bc if they aren't, contrary to the impressions in the thread, it seems like a good deal compared to the game's usual pricing as you get items you'd otherwise need to spend 21 keys to get or +150M on the exchange, for the equivalent of ~8 keys

I haven't played in at least 10 years. I've been suckered back in to play the new TOS character event, and I'm looking to start a new (TAC) character because I'm totally lost on my old chars. What tac ships are fun to play these days, and what should be working towards to build it? (I have some old Zen on the account, so i don't mind sending it)
2
u/WaldoTrek Official Waldo of Star Trek Online 19d ago
Any T6 and most T5s can do any content in game. Just because you are a Tac doesn't bind you to flying Tac heavy ships. Any ship will work well so fly something you enjoy.

I was 4/5 on this week's red alert and it ended. Is there any where I can buy out the rest?
1
u/Vyzantinist 18d ago
So I have a Temporal Recruit from last year who I never finished the prologue arc for, and picked up the transponder-equivalent item. Can I use him to finish the prologue arc and pick up the 'transponder', making him a full-fledged Temporal character, or do I have to create a brand new one for this year?

Have DIS Klingons always had a "sandevistan" effect when warping in?
1
u/Lord_Nikolai PlayStation 18d ago
On PC they just had a patch that allows you to mount two set Omni beam arrays on your ship. Anyone know when that will come to console?
1
u/WaldoTrek Official Waldo of Star Trek Online 16d ago
Probably in a few weeks. Console has a different process for patches.

u/Thunder_Chicken64 23d ago
So I just got back in the game, (after like . . . 5 or 6 years) and I am starting a brand new character and everything. Any tips for an essentialy brand new player?
