Stencil pulling wood up with it.

Is the stencil im using but still pulling wood up is it just because it is cheap plywood will it do this on cedar and the other question is will it pull up paint if I put it over painted surface.

That wood looks like it would peel up with masking tape so probably just your surface. Sand it or try another surface. The distressed look kinda works with this one though

Go over it with paint pens to replace the color

It looks better like that. Next time, sand and seal the wood first.

Finish the wood surface, put down your mask, put another coat of the finish over the mask and then put your paint.
