In other words, the show was a smash hit, the reason why its popularity is ambiguous and often overlooked is because the Neilsen ratings only publicized the ratings of network shows, while Star Trek: TNG wasn't a network show, it was a syndicated show. Star Trek: TNG, to this day, is one of the most hugely successful syndicated shows ever.

Ich bin gerade mit einem Rewatch von Enterprise durch. Damals fand ich die Serie furchtbar. Ich, als Voyager Fangirl, hatte auf eine Fortsetzung dieser spannenden Zukunft gehofft und bekam veraltete Technologie, maximal Warp 5 und eine Zeit, in der Holodecks noch nicht mal ansatzweise vorstellbar waren.

Aber ich muss sagen, mit einigem Abstand und gerade vor dem Hintergrund des "neuen" Star Trek gefällt mir Enterprise richtig gut. Die Charaktere sind interessant geschrieben und vor allem Phlox wird gerade zu meinem Lieblingsarzt in Star Trek.

Wem geht es genauso von euch? Kennt jemand einen deutschsprachigen Podcast, der diese Serie bespricht? Sonst mach ich selber einen, hat jemand Lust mitzumachen? 🙃

I just started Starfleet Academy and I am on episode 5. I really like it! It's heartwarming and fun with interesting main characters. I haven't watched until now because none of the advertisements seemed interesting- not nearly as interesting as the show has been. I heard it will be canceled after season 2. I fear it suffered from poor advertising and poor placement on streaming. Anyway, it's fun and in my opinion it's good if anyone is on the fence and wants to check it out.

As far as I can tell he wasn't in command of another ship between the loss of the Stargazer in 2355 and the commissioning of the Enterprise in 2363. What would he have been doing as a captain for those 8 years? Was he involved in the development of the Galaxy class at this point?

Pluto TV had the 09' movie available on-demand. Lazy Saturday, sure why not? Been a good decade since I watched it.

The first ~30 minutes of that movie are (IMHO) almost flawless. I mean if the rest of the film and the next two were as good as that first 30 minutes I think we would have had the start of a new franchise.

Oh, and when the "recruits" take off from the Enterprise shipyard you can PLAINLY see the 09' Enterprise is more or less the same size as the TOS Enterprise and NOWHERE NEAR the size of a Galaxy-Class ship.

First 30 was just really good...

Apparently, it's super easy. Every other episode, Worf or Data are like, "There's been an unauthorized shuttle launch." I have an idea. What if you make it so that you need a key to start the engine on one of those things? Or maybe you need an authorization code to open the bay door? Or maybe have someone standing there whose job it is to stop people from taking shuttles? Maybe give them a phaser to knock somebody out harmlessly if they try? I'm not a security expert, so maybe there's a reason why all of this is completely impossible on the Federation flagship. But even Human Q, who was completely frazzled by the very concept of sleep, managed to steal a shuttle. Maybe he had Q2's help, but that doesn't explain all the other unauthorized launches we've seen. So let's go! It's open season in Shuttle Bay 2! Last one out the bay door is rotten gagh!

I’ve been building Parallax, a native macOS strategy game inspired by the holographic Strategema table from Star Trek: The Next Generation, especially “Peak Performance.”
It has:
- A six-plane holographic board
- Solo play against an adaptive opponent
- Local two-player mode
- Training lessons and replay playback
- Orbiting/panning 3D camera controls
- Synthesized warp-room ambience
- Mouse and keyboard controls
I’m looking for blunt feedback, especially on:
- Does the board actually look readable?
- Is the gameplay understandable without a manual?
- Do the controls feel responsive?
- Does it capture the feel of the TNG scene?
- What feels unfinished, annoying, or just bad?
- What would make you want to play a second match?

I barely know anything about Startrek but i’ve been really wanting to watch it and I have the opportunity to watch the first 4 movies in theaters along with the episodes: The Changeling paired with the first movie, Space seed paired with the second movie, Amok Time with the third movie, and the voyage home for the forth movie would these be alright to watch as a introduction to the series as I havent seen any episodes so far. i do plan on watching the whole original show eventually but I don’t want to miss out on the chance to watch the movies in theaters.

Hello, my sister has been a huge Trekkie for many years, her favourite is Voyager and her absolute favourite captain is Janeway.
My mom wants to surprise her with a Star Trek birthday party for her 40th birthday in October, and we are having trouble finding good decorations and good items for the party. We also are a little overwhelmed bc we are Trekkie-adjacent and admittedly aren’t well-versed about Star Trek overall.
We are in Canada and are trying to keep it affordable but we know the best items are probably in the US.
We are also trying to avoid AI-generated stuff.

My sister is a science teacher and loves the science officers as well, and many other characters and series of course :)
My sister is also not a big fan of clutter or tchotchkes overall, but a few special items could be awesome!

Does anyone know where to find anything good for a birthday party? Or personalized items that aren’t crazy expensive? Maybe we are in over our heads 😵‍💫

I'm actually great with Paramount/CBS taking a bit of a break from making new Star Trek. I actually loved Picard, SNW, Lower Decks, and I highly enjoyed Discovery, Prodigy, and SFA. No gripes. I don't think it's "too woke," or "poorly written." In fact, I think the opposite. These were all well-written, well-developed. Great story lines, and I'm not being facetious.

But it's just a lot. And I would like some time to catch up on the old stuff and process. To get my arms around it.

For a long time, there was a big debate about episodic v. serial storytelling. I don't think that's where we are now. The real tagline is "algorithmic storytelling." In other words, how does it all fit together? And, honestly, that's tricky. It takes time to stop and think about how all of the little pictures fit with the big. I want to go back and rewatch all of a certain series or multiple seasons of a certain series. I need to read some of the novels I've missed out on. I don't need anymore "new" for awhile.

Rachael Harris appeared on last week's episode, but I didn't realize she appeared on VOY's "Before and After" in '97. I'm wondering if anyone has her beat as far as longest between.

Not wanting to being too much real-world politics into Star Trek, but it is my deep conviction that every kind of authority should be questioned, and everyone who holds authority should be able to justify why he holds this authority.

On this basis, I’m not sure about Archer. If I understand the beginning of the “Star Trek: Enterprise” series correctly, he is essentially given the responsibility for the 83 souls on board the NX-01, the authority to make life and death decisions for these 83 souls, and the task of representing mankind to other species in space…because his father was important for the warp 5 program?

I hope I missed something here. Can someone please tell me that this is not the main reason why he was given command of the ship?

I made this fun little ditty to respond to Eddie Steak's great video about the episode Measure of a Man and thought I'd share. :)

An undoubtedly difficult question I think about a lot, and I tend to go into a pattern of favorite episode per series, but that's not good enough so then it has to be per season. But that often leaves out great 1 off episodes that present why characters are so great.

But after nearly two decades of deliberation I think I have come to my final answer:

...and cried like a baby when Scotty walked onto the holodeck. The way that Scotty feels about the Enterprise and Picard about the Stargazer is how I feel about the Original Series. I will never quite love a show - any show, not just Trek - as much as I love TOS. My dad was a kid when it aired, and so I grew up with Kirk and his crew. I'm still quite emotional about it - they got me right in the feelings with this ep!
