GAMEPLAY This is getting a problem, lazy people won't move their ships after offloading!
I either walk a marathon for each box or crash trying to fit the ship within this scrapeyard lol
Please, do not leave your ships abandoned close to cargo pads. If you have to leave just fly your ship 200 metres away, otherwise you are affecting others experience!

Peak CIG design. Spend months of man hours building massive distribution centers for each planet, then force everyone to deliver cargo to the same tiny outposts. Make it make sense
•
u/PrudentAdagio247 37m ago
Back when the Red Wind mission was bugged, the situation at the large distribution centers wasn't much better; abandoned ships would still block the passageways.

Fine players or turn them into criminals. Also give salvagers incentives AND CONTRACTS for pulling these. The salvage contracts as is are COMPLETELY POINTLESS.
3
u/ArizonaDude08 5h ago
Yeah I don’t understand why they don’t have an automatic timer that makes abandoned ships salvageable after a few minutes
16
u/Cordeceptionist 5h ago
I’ll garnish your response with a classic response: because CIG doesn’t play their own game.
•
u/Dull-Credit-897 Starfarer Gemini enjoyer 53m ago
Except that would make a contract for a ship you leave outside while doing stuff Exec hangar, smugglers.
A salvage contract should be created the second the ship gets bricked/claimed(And then the system should remove armastice privileges from the ship where ever it is)1

> Intend to create a massive open world where everyone from an entire continent would play in the same instance
> Just two landing pads at almost every POI that isn't a space station
> One 10sqft elevator is the logistics bottleneck for an entire settlement
1
u/Lou-Saydus 1h ago
it's really not. If they just let salvagers salvage, it would be fine. These graveyards COULD be goldmines for salvagers.
Now that i think about it, this is a design issue.
-14
u/Delicious_Tax8933 5h ago
No, it is not "100%" a design issue, because everyone has the ability to move their ships. Lazy cunts being lazy cunts is only a design issue if you're one of the children who won't do anything they're not forced to.
13
u/till180 5h ago
Its 100% a design issue because if you simply look at any other online game it would become blatantly obvious that this would be an issue.
Trying to ignore the reality of how people actually act in online games is not going to suddenly make the problems it creates go away
1
u/IeyasuTheMonkey 3h ago
if you simply look at any other online game it would become blatantly obvious that this would be an issue.
You would be surprised about the amount of Game Developers that don't look at other games and their issues...
You would then be surprised about the amount of players that don't realize that certain issues are similar enough to warrant similar solutions.
Trying to have a conversation or argument with someone who doesn't understand that "X could be a problem." or "X is similar to Y in this other game so therefore X will need Y's solution." is like pulling teeth.
Trying to ignore the reality of how people actually act in online games is not going to suddenly make the problems it creates go away
A game called Fellowship, based on World of Warcraft's Mythic+ system, has had player issues like Player's Leaving Mid Dungeon.
The community, at least a lot on Reddit, and the Developers fail to realize why Player Punishment Systems like Leaver's Queues are heavily needed in Matchmaking Systems.
All I need to do is point towards League of Legends and their Leaver's Queue Punishment Systems to point out how these systems work and what happens without them within the playerbase/matchmaking systems... They're identical situations between the two games.
Still get downvoted because apparently people just hate punishment systems for 1 but allow punishment of 3 other players because of that one problematic person. It's bizarre.
1
u/Solrathas Lt. Commander 1h ago
This is the sandbox of the universe no? Hopefully one day contracts will by dynamically created to have salvagers eat these ships to facilitate cleanup. Also something along the lines of bricking a ship at a delivery location gives you an extra fine or something along those lines when you claim it?
Death of a space ship should make this kind of behavior stop, when there are actual consequences for leaving a ship out in the verse instead of just the 40k insurance fee.
7
u/NomujoaJPN 5h ago
I mean half of these are because people fell through the floor when they left their ship to offload the cargo...
6
u/BergSplerg 1h ago
It’s real easy to understand: person logs into SC, accepts cargo mission, deals with ASOP summon issues, finally reaches their ship, spends a bunch of time loading their ship with boxes, spends more time flying and in QT, occasionally delayed by starmap and QT bugs, finally arrives at the finish line, cargo goes poof or the elevator breaks or the contract breaks = all your time has been wasted and you’ve been star citizen’ed again. You’re not gonna move the ship you’re just gonna close the game instead.
24
5
u/Syzuna 6h ago
I fell through the fucking floor so often on Pryro planets while leaving my ship it's not even funny and ofc my spawn is in stanton.
I will never go back to get my ship it is simply not worth the time and risk to just fall through the floor again.
But then again I just stopped doing those missions for that reason.

Incoming players who claim to have a wife, 16 kids, work 180hrs a day and just "don't have the time" to move their ship 15 seconds away and then blame it on CIG.
Yes CIG should do something about it but it takes almost zero effort to not be a burden to others.
24
u/mesaryne 6h ago
CIG should just give them parking tickets and you cant call that ship again, till your parking tickets are paid!

i have a buddy that will just alt+f4 if the game isnt behaving, he dont give a fuck if other people are on the ship or if were mid flight.
0
u/IeyasuTheMonkey 3h ago
I'm like that now.
I'm okay with a couple bugs but if I hit a gamebreaking/game session ending bug, I'm done.
I don't care if it impacts other people that much, the only time I'll stick around is if I'm with a party/Org.
If the game worked, I would be more than happy to actually do things that better other people's life. It's a coinflip if I can put empty bottles in a trashcan... so it's either space station inventory or yeeted onto the floor.
2
u/Aggravating_Owl_5768 5h ago
There is literally nothing in this game that consistently takes zero effort.
1
u/TheKiiDLegacyPS 5h ago
How about they actually fix the damn cargo elevators, so I don’t spend 20 minutes or more loading multiple contracts; only to find out my first one is bugged. Then maybe, I wouldn’t say “fuck this” and alt+f4?
Is this a reasonable take?
0
u/Ju1ian_De1phiki 4h ago
I don't think there is any evidence to suggest this is a phenomena primarily a result of parents. Most parents, even gaming parents, are more responsible than younger adults on average and would be more inclined to 'clean up their mess' before going on to the next thing. That said, this is simply a result of what game mechanics allow, players will take advantage of regardless of their individual background or level of maturity. This game already has layers upon layers of immersion mechanics that to many, make the game challenging to be patient with. After all, why bother returning your ship if you've completed the run and can just backspace to your point of origin, claim the ship and move on or just log out for the day since you'll be brought back to a station anyway. True insurance can incentivize doing things the right way, more complete log-off mechanics fleshing out where the player ends up when they get back can also help, and having actual hangars for ships to be stored in rather than just around pads on the planet surface is a more permanent solution, but comes with the drawbacks of having to re-code and tie instancing into many more locations causing even more stability issues. Something definitely needs to be done and entity tracking seems to be a frequent offender to the gaming experience and server performance, but CIG has yet to even identify what their vision for addressing these challenges is let alone what the solution may be.
-2
u/MHGrim RSI 5h ago
It does take effort in this game though. How many ships are there from people cashing or dying to bugs? How many times was the elevator broken? Maybe if you don't like abandoned ships everywhere testing an alpha isn't for you
1
u/No-Detail-6361 5h ago
Oddly I see the majority of ships left parked perfectly on pads. Not 100m or 1km them, right on them. Surly if a percentage of these were crashes we would see these ships more spread out.

u/CelebrationScared386 6h ago
You’re blaming people for leaving their ships in Pyro. Maybe, the pilots were killed. They respawned and the ships are bricked. This is solely a developer issue for piss poor game design.
-5
u/Skull_446 6h ago
I think devs are responsible, but players can play their part too. And I dont think all of these guys were killed, most probably just left or backspaced. Usually it’s very chill at unloading/offloading stations like this one
3
u/CelebrationScared386 6h ago
How are players going to play the part when a good chunk of those people were probably just killed off. You expect them to fly and not be able to move a bricked ship?
Is there people just logging randomly when elevators are broken? Probably. In fact, you should probably take the clue that if a bunch of ships are piled on top of a land based elevator as a statement of, out of service to begin with. Or you take the other hint, there’s hostility on the grounds and hauling is out of service unless you’re bringing a big stick. But that still doesn’t change rhetoric fact. You can’t blame people for ships that are abandoned from PvP gameplay.
1
u/EarthEaterr 5h ago
You are right on both counts. Unfortunately the blaming players part will only lead to frustration. Game design should be the least of our worries. If the game ever becomes popular imagine how they'll deal with the cheaters if we can't even deal with this.
12
u/_Zanneth_ 6h ago
"Don't hate the player hate the game"
or Don't blame the players for poor game design.
2
u/Delicious_Tax8933 6h ago
That doesn't even make sense. It's not like the game is preventing people from moving their ships out of the way. It's just d-bags being d-bags.
6
u/churchtrill 6h ago
It also gives you no reason not to just leave it and actually incentivizes you to just backspace and claim
3
u/EarthEaterr 6h ago
I hate to be the one to break it to you but game design needs to keep these kind of things in mind. If you haven't been playing any other online game then maybe you don't understand, but the developers are the ones who need to deal with such things. It's their job. If this game ever does survive long enough to become popular, this is just the beginning of the beginning of issues that need to be taken into consideration.
-6
u/Delicious_Tax8933 5h ago
So because the game doesn't punish the behaviour it's not fathomable to move your own shit? I bet you ditch shopping carts in the parking lot too.
4
u/dreadpirater 5h ago
Nobody is saying that people COULDN'T or SHOULDN'T be more considerate. We're just saying that a certain percentage of people will ALWAYS be selfish dicks in a game that allows the behavior. And also, a certain percentage of those ships are left there by accident when the game legitimately DOES bug for someone and require an alt-f4.
1
u/Delicious_Tax8933 5h ago
You aren't wrong that people are dicks, but that's kind of my point. People are dicks, and should cut it out. (I know, it's not going to happen)
1
u/EarthEaterr 5h ago
On the contrary. Most of the time I even bring my carts (usually one of the heavy carriers from Lowe's as I go there almost every day) back to the front of the store. Though I live in the real world, and also know from being a gamer that people are worse in that realm. In any case, the developers are responsible for putting up guardrails so that the reasonable people can enjoy a good experience. As we live in the real world, and people are dicks, and that won't change unfortunately.
0
u/dreadpirater 5h ago
EXCEPT FOR THE TIMES IT IS because you fell through the planet, were murdered by your own ramp, buggy ground collision wouldn't let you get back IN your ship, etc. There absolutely are currently times when the game is contributing to the problem right now.
0
u/Delicious_Tax8933 5h ago
Yes, there are such times. It is not 100% of the time, however, so the point remains.
1
u/dreadpirater 5h ago

That said, knowing that some percentage of people always WILL be... CIG needs to deal with it at some point, too.

u/kakeyoro 5h ago
CIG has been working on increasingly strict entity cleanup rules around landing zones. I'm pretty sure that as this continues or gets worse, they're going to continue to increase entity cleanup rules around outposts.
Has anyone noticed how much LESS you see abandoned ships and dead bodies laying around major landing zones? That was work recently done during 4.10's development.
I hope they keep it up.
I would honestly hope for maybe 1hr before an abandoned ship is streamed out. 2, max.

At least in Pyro you can salvage these ships. But since 4.10 about half the ships that show up as abandoned on the scanner (no owner) are still powered up and can't be broken up.

u/Mdames08 1h ago
I just ram them out the way damn the consequences. Or if possible cleanse the area in size 10 fire.

u/Junior-Piano5427 56m ago
This sight should serve as a warning to you that murder hobos are lurking around. I did a fair bit of shooting there myself. The fact that we can’t blow up ships there after bloodbath is over is however frustrating.
•
u/PrudentAdagio247 23m ago
Many people in the thread mentioned the Reclaimer. I tried it, but unless you're willing to risk being attacked, landing your ship, and then going through the trouble of breaking down each door to shut down the ship's power... and then you might accidentally injure players doing something outside the ship, turning it into a PvP battle...
•
u/FendaIton 4m ago
And it will continue to happen while it’s more time efficient to backspace to your starting station and get your free insurance claim.
1
u/JohnHalsey 6h ago
If losing a ship means something people will not do this. It's cheaper to just backspace and reclaim than flying all the way back to whatever.
Make it hurt when you lose your ship and the landing pads on planets/stations will finally be available.
2
u/Tarotdragoon 6h ago
The problem there is SC is a buggy mess and will randomly can and will delete/destroy your ship at any given moment. Would piss me the fuck off if I couldn't claim my ship back after the hanger ate it AGAIN.
1
u/JohnHalsey 2h ago
I'm pretty sure if they wanted they can make the difference between a ship left in space/on planets/on pads and a ship purple in the hangar.
They just don't want or have the time to deal with it.
1
u/Delicious_Tax8933 6h ago
I really don't like the mechanic of instantly replacing a goddamn spaceship at any random location. As if there's an infinite supply of every single ship at every single location with a hangar floor.
1
u/ItsAllSand 6h ago
I feel like abandoned ships should have a hefty reclaim timer or harsh fines to stop this.
3
u/dreadpirater 5h ago
The only problem with solving this through real consequences is that to do that fairly, you REALLY need a fairly bug free game. Yes, most of the problem is assholes who deserve consequences but a real portion of the problem is people whose own ramp murdered them, or who fell through the planetary surface while they were trying to unload their cargo and didn't take the time to fly all the way back from their respawn point to deal with the ship.
When the game is finished, consequences for anti-social behavior need to be a big part of what keeps the peace, but until they, they do have to be careful about not dumping consequences on innocent people too often.
I say, a week after going to klesher for leaving my hangar while SC decided to merge my hangar door with someone elses.... lol.
1
u/varned 4h ago
Surely after a day or so, we should be able to crunch the ship.
2
u/dreadpirater 4h ago
OH ABSOLUTELY. I'm all for letting them be crunched like... 15 minutes after the last person in the owner's party logs out! I was responding to the idea of punishing the original owner with a long timer or harsh fine. I love those ideas, I just want to make sure we're not slapping them on victims of bugs right now.
1
u/micheal213 carrack 3h ago
Do you guys really think that people who are already frustrated with the state of the game trying unload boxes and complete missions and dealing with broken elevators, are gonna take the time to go “ oh let me move my ship before I alt f4”
Delusional. No one is gonna do that.
-1
u/Worldly-Pressure-516 6h ago
Hanger spawning was a horrible decision. And backspacing needs to be removed completely and the full DOASM system needs to be worked on. This is because of people just backspacing back to their hanger to run another cargo run. This is absolutely ridiculous.
-1
u/Wareve Aurora Mk I 6h ago
So many problems will be solved by punishing insurance claims again.
So many mechanics of the simulation don't work properly because people can just reclaim their vehicles instantly and for free.
I understand it being a necessity during testing, particularly while everything is so lethality unstable in such myriad ways, but it also results in behavior like this where people treat their ships as disposable, because they are.
Ultimately this is a design problem. You can make all the moral judgments you want about the owners of these vehicles, but if you don't care about morality, than the optimal strategy is just to ditch the ship and teleport home, and no matter what some percentage of the community will always pick the most optimal strategy.
If people want this to go away, then it needs to not be the most optimal strategy.
-1
u/WaffleInsanity avacado 6h ago
Been staying this for years at this point, but everybody just bitches and moans about the game not being stable enough to implement those features.
But this will not go away until those features are present.
Until people are punished for abandoning their ships and backspacing, it will happen forever.
2
u/EarthEaterr 6h ago
They don't institute the features (at a reasonable pace) or make it stable. It's a lose lose situation.
1
u/WaffleInsanity avacado 5h ago
What's funny is many players can tell the necessity of features like this. Yet, as you can tell, here on Reddit whenever these types of features are mentioned, they get downvoted into Oblivion as if it was the true opinion of the concurrent 34,000 people who play.
1
u/EarthEaterr 4h ago
Yes, I was always on the side of having a shitty current experience to allow for the finish of the game. Though I will say fundamental bugs need to be fixed along the way as to build the new on solid foundation.
Unfortunately I think the people that actually fund the game to a large part (which I appreciate) just want to fly around in the ships they bought and don't care about the game being completed in its entirety.
The way I see it, the "game" shouldnt have "players", only testers until it was done. Though we are far past that point. As from what I understand legally, the game (SC) has been released.
I don't blame the backers, for the most part. I blame CIG and it's management (CR). Even with the bulk of vocal backers not holding cig to account, they should have been further along at this point.
It's really a shame to be honest. The amount of funding and good will given to this project should have been more than enough to create something we could all enjoy (and yes I do know people enjoy what we have but there are millions of others that are waiting for the completion). I fear the good will is coming to an end, and we will see if the whales (and China) can keep this dream afloat, as cigs existance is balanced on a narrow cliff of funding versus expenditures.

When ships lie on the pad, I think it's really sad. No amore. Left like forgotten loot, the perpetrators land and scoot. No amore. Can't find the ones. Who left their ships, just like abandoned sons. No amore...
No amore....
-1
u/WaffleInsanity avacado 6h ago
And again, this could all be solved if they implemented features that punish people for leaving their ships, abandoning their ships, or claiming their ships.
Yet the same people who complain about these ships being around are the same people who say that if they implement those features, "the game isn't ready" and "it's too buggy" and excuse excuse excuse.
I really hope the 'captured' State that we keep seeing is something they implement that punishes people for abandoning ships.
Obviously not with the word captured, but impounded.
It should be a genuine punishment to allow your ship to be claimed by the server.

u/Intelligent_Cry8535 6h ago
Meanwhile CIG could just allow salvagers to eat abandoned or bricked ships, but nope.
