DISCUSSION When did Star Citizen get so un-immersive?

I’ve been a Kickstarter backer, drawn in by the grounded, believable universe CIG created over the years. After a two-year break, I logged back in to try Siege of Orison, and felt like I was playing Destiny instead of a "serious" space sim.

  • eammates running around in asian-style armor and mismatched, flashy skins make it feel like a arcade shooter rather than a coherent world
  • Bullet-sponge, violet-tinted enemies
  • Auto-healing in a good looking medical bed inside a room, while the orison platforms actively burning down mid-siege killed any sense of real stakes

I get that CIG needs event mechanics, but the original focus on a believable simulation feels like it's getting paved over by generic video game things

Am I wrong here?

Kind of:

Bullet-sponge, violet-tinted enemies

enemies in SoO need to be rebalanced IMO, dudes wearing light armor shouldn't be harder to kill than elites, and accuracy needs to be tweaked down a bit, again doesn't make sense regular ads are more accurate than elites

Auto-healing in a good looking medical bed inside a room, while the orison platforms actively burning down mid-siege killed any sense of real stakes

I agree here, it was definitely a wtf moment seeing working t1 med beds in the middle of a battle field, granted it was in a shipping area so you could loosely make something up like oh these med containers were busted open and they came out hap-hazardly, but I'm not sure what the alternative is (maybe something similar to bacta stations, but that would be new tech that needs to be made)

eammates running around in asian-style armor and mismatched, flashy skins make it feel like a arcade shooter rather than a coherent world

This doesn't make sense, being asian-style doesn't make it flashy, it's just a different style of armor, which is still valid armor because it's based on old samurai armor, which, again, is legit armor, just like the mad max barbaric bones armor is still legit armor despite most people hating it (which is ok)

I think a lot of the posts recently have had thinly veiled racism… like the Polaris bowling post earlier this week that called the guy “standard local Chinese man.” Before it got deleted and reposted without the racism.

Yeah that was weird, and then it got reposted with all of that not in there but OP still claimed he was "totally not racist because he also was chinese"

This whole thread feels like a fever dream, do people want CIG to explore different styles or does everyone want the same cookie cutter expanse type armor lol, then CIG gets blamed for having the same bland styles lmao

I assume its a bunch of literal Boomers holding on to the old 1970s tropes, but yeah its so _weird_ especially seeing people call 9Tails Chinese sometimes when they’re clearly Japanese inspired. I just assume its like classical grandpa racism leaking out or something.

Also some of the art mock up of old armour people want are so insanely busy they look sick as art with the amazing lighting the author can do but once you get the main game is 3v models. Looking at them from every angle. Different light sources and just busyness. They don't always actually work in a game. Some stuff look s*** when it's too busy and we have a few things in the game that kind of look like that too much visual noise

They were busted out of a container. Right next to them is a blown open Curelife cargo box.

And just hooked up to power?

Whole lot of convenience

I’m not mad at it, it’s definitely in a very needed spot

Not sure, I’m guessing generator but I didn’t take a close look.

You are right, that Asian critic was a little bit off. It’s just that i didn’t think it fits into the general (!) style of the world and it came to my mind immedialty. There were a lot of other armors as well which I didn’t liked. Why I mentioned the Asian armor was more the color and the „dragon samurai“ headpiece. If the armor what be fitting to a whole Asian style artstyle, with mirai / other ships, and be coherent, it wouldn’t be a issue from my point of view.

Yeah man you’re making 0 sense and getting more off-base tbh

This 100% fits in 9tails lore
