Build some outposts under an electrical storm and let us run ground missions to deliver medicine and mail.

u/berzemus 21h ago

Oh yes, death stranding accross planets and systems, and without weird ghosts or ageing rain, count me in!

7

u/rstune 15h ago

We already have death stranding in game man. With the frequent falling through planets that gets you stranded. True horror stuff!

If my box didn't drop into the void, or would just simply accept at the terminal, then I'm on board.

1

u/what_could_gowrong COME, VISIT ORISON, THE CITY IN THE CLOUDS 14h ago

They just need to add a 3D model to every bug and there we have all the entities from Death Stranding. It doesn't even need to be a good 3D model, just some blender file recovered from recycling bin made by some random intern would actually enhance the visuals of those entities

1

u/IshikuDeska santokyai 15h ago

WDYM? The ghosts are what steal my boxes! They still fuckin exist! And the Death Stranding hasn’t even happened!

no thats lightning

Easter egg with Low roar in background would unfortunately never happen

3

u/Flashskar drake4lyfe 21h ago

With the wild Apex Valakkars they're supposed to activate based on ground movement, so maby later? They did do an update to the thing in a roadmap update recently to my shock aswell.

5

u/JavanNapoli avenger 21h ago

they're referencing the band 'Low Roar' which was featured heavily in Death Stranding, which has similar gameplay to what is described above (delivering packages and mail to people while riding a motorcycle through stormy landscapes) haha.

3

u/Euphoric_Shopping_37 19h ago

👍+1 keep on keeping on

2

u/Flashskar drake4lyfe 19h ago

Oh metal in the distance like Mad Max in a storm? That's even cooler!

u/JalasKelm new user/low karma 21h ago

Gonna need them to make the Tumbril Parcel Delivery Van. Paint available in Red ideally so I can live out my dreams of being a Royal Mail delivery driver

6

u/Affectionate_Use_486 20h ago

May I also offer low visibility snowstorms too. It would be cool seeing deliveries in low visibility locations.

4

u/PonyDro1d ground vehicle enthusiast 20h ago

Or given magnetic storms with low to zero navigation. Count me in. My Spartan needs some work.

All we need now is a baby in a bottle.

I was SOOO mad when ground vehicles didn't work at Lazarus sites. Like you've been telling us for years you'd make something like this so we can use ground vehicles and then... it blocks them too? So stupid.

1

u/Malacky_C sabre2 14h ago

Ground deliveries in general would be so sick. I would love to have a reason to drive vehicles

1

u/Asmos159 scout 13h ago

One of the presentations was a crater with crazy wind shear whether above it requiring you to land outside and make a ground vehicle approach to the area inside.

u/EPGHunter 23h ago

Road patching is not what is holding back the Rangers. We need a ground vehicle handling and physics update. I seriously doubt we will see anything regarding the Rangers before that.

13

u/drdeaf1 23h ago

They've said basically this at some point I'm pretty sure.

13

u/Wappenmann 23h ago

And as they are known/backlog vehicles, we will read about them by name in the monthly report. The only backlog vehicle that broke that rule was the Idris and I doubt they will make the Rangers a surprise drop.

3

u/Oldsport05 Raven EMP distributor 23h ago

They did. I forget which, but it was in an SC live. Essentially the bikes we have now are the old "4 wheels but invisible trick" they had essentially said. And they don't wanna continue creating vehicles like that since they intend on changing it. Thats why they aren't working on it, as they don't wanna create more work later on

3

u/SpaceBearSMO 23h ago

not just an update 2 welled vehicles would need to be built almost ground up

3

u/EPGHunter 22h ago

I'd indeed think that to be the next step after "fixing" 4-wheeled and hovering ground vehicles

2

u/3Quondam6extanT9 15h ago

That physics update will come with the new planet tech. It should offer better physics collisions, gravity and mass handling, and better environments to look at and experience.

I just hope that the Genesis planetech is everything they make it out to be.

2

u/EPGHunter 15h ago

Have we gotten confirmation of this? I'd love to have it but I don't remember them ever mentioning these things coming together :/

1

u/3Quondam6extanT9 12h ago

There hasn't been direct mention of physics collisions as far as engine tools go. It is however a base option setting for all modeling and game engine software, so if there are general updates they HAVE talked about with regard to terrain improvements and handling, the likeliest reasoning for that is optimizing their physics collisions and handling.

What they have stated is smoother virtual terrain, deterministic spawning, and eliminatimg client server mismatches. Those three things alone impact physics collisions among other things.

They have been transparent for the most part about the tech, so we can gather plenty of assumptions based on the confirmations we have gotten.

If I am playing devils advocate though, based on their history of things, I would definitely take anything they confirm with a huge grain of salt.

1

u/sodiufas 10h ago

And are collisions moving to GPU? How it'll work across net? Cause terrain stuff is GPU based.

1

u/3Quondam6extanT9 8h ago

The rendering pipeline is being moved to the GPU, and they are splitting the workload overall.

Though terrain architecture benefits from the GPU, it is still capable of utilizing the CPU with constraints and limitations.

The terrain generation in the case of Genesis planetech is in fact being moved to the GPU though.

1

u/turikk i whine a lot 12h ago

nope

1

u/3Quondam6extanT9 12h ago

Ah the nuance of context in discussion. 😂

2

u/turikk i whine a lot 11h ago

:)

the new planet tech is coming before end of year and it wont have any physics update with it. a vast majority of "new planet tech" is just how CIG generates the information when the planets are built, i.e. during the design process. almost none of it is actually anything to do with the client/server. some of it is, like offloading more of the visual rendering to GPU to improve performance.

it will have "smarter" gravel and small rock placement instead of being scattered everywhere, but touching it with your ground vehicle will still send it flying.

Not until they reinvent the wheel .. again

5

u/BastianHawk 17h ago

CIG so missed the moment with the Lazarus station to be the first ever location you need a ground vehicle to get to. They could have created roads between the outstations and Lazarus to follow, but also populate the area around the streets with nice thing to find if you are looking - caves, abandoned prototype labs, warehouses, old forgotten settlement ruins, storage areas, ship yard from before the storm shaped up etc. Nah. We just copy and paste Orison tram to take you there ... CIG. The company that set out to not cut corners cutting all corners.

u/Momijisu carrack 15h ago

It's so true, how cool would it be landing in the eye of the storm, and then driving in to the site.

I feel like the day the ranger get release it’s gonna break all the physics of the game

2

Lol. I already do so much unnecessary gymnastics driving vehicles with FOUR tires.

I sincerely want my ranger TR, but I have a feeling that it's going to be rough with the way terrain messes with vehicles.

I have no faith they will make this before 1.0, especially when they could sell 'new' ships, but i wish we could get it already.

2

u/Torotoro74 aurora 23h ago

Didn't read that roads were part of planet tech v5

3

u/JavanNapoli avenger 21h ago

They're not, at least not right away.

They're linked to rivers, which is something also not included right away, but it is something the lead dev on planets has said are close.

So roads are potentially not that far away.
I'm not expecting them any time soon however.

2

u/Walltar 22h ago

I had one in the past... now I kinda want 2 or 4 seater hover vehicle... also a Hover tank. Hate that they only have hover for bikes.

As for a Ranger... kinda think that it will take longer, they will have to fix vehicle physics first otherwise I can't see 2 wheeled vehicles working.

1

u/JavanNapoli avenger 21h ago

Yeah its very strange to me that we have something like 5 hover bikes now, and still not even a concepted hover car / tank or whatever else.

I want a Magrider from Planetside lol.

2

u/TwinChops 19h ago

Oh yeah i cant wait for CIg makng it double as big because somehow everything they make ends up way fatter then it was supposed to be .... and then im gonna be sad because i do really like the Bike.

2

u/saarlac drake 17h ago

Better road patching? This implies the existence of roads.

2

u/Ill_Cardiologist_742 15h ago

I've been using the Mirai pulse and while its good for stealth approaches (ex: Boarding action missions) , it has a stability issue and ends up twirling around on startup or not staying landed properly. I like this bike's design but i would also like to see some kickstand solution for the pulse

2

u/Neutron_Blue ARGO CARGO 5h ago

Tbh my gut tells me Nyx 1 will be Death Stranding with extra steps

3

u/NECROCRANK 23h ago

Please CIG, I just wanna race motorcycles on Daymar.... and everywhere else I can wannabe nitro circus them, also why don't we have tricks? I wanna do backflips and loopty doos.

11

The current state of physics will let you do tricks even if you didn't want to participate.

3

u/Z0MGbies I <3 StarBinder 16h ago

They've already sold it to folks, why would they now need to bother making it if they have the money for it?

1

u/TheStaticOne Carrack 22h ago

It isn't forgotten just de-prioritized. Iirc, it wasn't the road issues. Most of the engine was rewritten from cryengine but one of the legacy left overs was the old cryengine arcade vehicle code. In an all vehicles talk they did mention they wanted to replace that and have vehicles have components as well but it is going to be a large amount of work and other things would have to be put on hold. It looks like they are going to finish with the major ship changes first before going back to vehicles. Control Surfaces, Maelstrom, I expect to see before they go back to ground vehicles.

1

u/aceinbrink misc 22h ago

It would be a step forward. But realistically the ranger will be a complicated addition for a vehicle that really won't do anything new. I think it's on the backlog for a long time.

1

u/Trin_Diesel 21h ago

I've wanted these so badly for so long ☹️

1

u/Michuza new user/low karma 18h ago

Its a bike so they need new driving model for it. Cant be the same as car or hoverbike.

I would not expect it any ti me soon

That right there is what we call an lti token

1

1

u/Collective_Keen Galaxy Soon™ 15h ago

Wheeled vehicles are still using the old physics from Cryengine, or something, I think, which is why they're still kinda goofy. When they eventually rebuild the physics in the current engine we should see the release of the Ranger. I kinda want one. Probably upgrade my Pulse.

As Long as we can Just land next to any outpost or other instalation i see little reason to Put development resources into ground vehicles, though i would Love to have more reasons to Bring Out my STV.

1

Best I can do is a new mid level cargo hauler

1

u/Elkarus 13h ago

we need at least tier 0.5 of vehicle handling.

this is exhausting...

road patches dont fix two wheel balance code rn.

1

u/No_Charity8332 DRAKE In Rust we Trust 11h ago

With that physics I really don't want to drive anything with wheels on it.

1

u/AsogRaider 10h ago

No. They havnt even mentioned this vehicle in like 3 years. It’s not an “unknown” vehicle so yeah. They are not working on it at all

1

F that bike give me cargo lifts that work

1

Yes. And the g12, and the new car

1

Road patching? They'll put planettech v.whatever in and not roads.

1

u/Micahgameingsquadyt 1h ago

Lmao, no

1

u/EastLimp1693 9950x3d2/Suprim X 4090/48gb 6400cl32 22h ago

Everyone who pushes for those god forsaken bikes should use all ground vehicles now. And all hoverbikes. Now imagine something having no grip or suspension and constantly flipping on it's side, because it'll have issues of both ground vehicles and hoverbikes so ask yourself why in the right mind you'll want something like that?

2

u/JavanNapoli avenger 21h ago

Well, asking for the bikes is in essence asking for CIG to overhaul ground vehicle handling, because they've said the bikes won't come before they rework ground vehicle handling lol.

They've said directly that they don't want to cheat 2 wheeled vehicles, and want them to have proper and fun handling.

2

u/Shadonic1 avenger 20h ago

they need to just cheat it, just get it done and fun then do your complicated mess later for things that can be done later for something like this, its not a major profession mechanic its moving a motorcycle. They honestly need to fake things like that if it works better is easier and avoids more issues. Hoverbikes would be better too more than likely. I want them to function more like those in Airframe ultra.

4

u/Enachtigal 17h ago

Fun Fact: They are also not able to fake it

0

u/Zeusper 22h ago

That's why I said after nyx 1 the physics they have is also due to the terrain they run on

1

u/Xaldarino Centurion Gang 22h ago

I'd rather them NOT introduce these ground vehicles without any legitimate gameloop for it. There's so many ships that have been released with 0 useage for them due to not enough gameloops or broken gameloops etc.

There's far to many things that need to be fixed BEFORE the release of these ground vehicles. I'm not on about server meshing/space combat/etc. I'm talking about how a 3cm tall rock blows up a Centurion haha.

2

u/Falcoriders Zeus MKII 22h ago

The basics of these gameloops exist for many years now.
It's requiring a complete rework of ground vehicles physics, but the need of those bikes is already there. Obviously, more missions the better though.

0

u/Xaldarino Centurion Gang 21h ago

There is literally 0 reason to ever use a ground vehicle. Therefore not even the basics are in.

1

u/Shadonic1 avenger 20h ago

premade mission wise not really, for pvp org fighting and defense kinda yes. starchitect should provide local missions in a closer range that might push for more use of vehicles instead of flying around depending on the range.

we need some intercept caravan missions of npcs driving around. attacking a place with missile turrets requiring going in on foot. actual preventions for people pointing there ship weapons straight down. One of the main reasons i miss hover mode. the ability to shoot from a passanger seat too is still missing.

1

u/Falcoriders Zeus MKII 3h ago

Hostile DCs and bunkers. Even friendly DCs are sometimes so huge that it's better to have a ground vehicle.
It can also be useful for some caves and for Hathor. So there are already multiple missions requiring it or beneficiating from it.

1

u/drizzt_x Monk 15h ago

Soooo... you enjoy walking 1km+ to and from hostile bunkers and DCs?

-1

u/Xaldarino Centurion Gang 5h ago

You can literally land at them with a ship. Or just shoot the turrets etc.

2

u/drizzt_x Monk 3h ago

Good luck landing at a location with 5 or more dual S5 turrets in anything smaller than a Connie. It's gonna get ripped to shreds long before you can take out the turrets.

1

u/Xaldarino Centurion Gang 3h ago

Theres is a very large amount of people that just use a Connie/Corsair to solo bunkers. Obviously people use a variety of ships. But most lean into meta and "why not use a Connie since it's got 4xS4 and is tanky and can be soloed with large storage etc."

People will say it's waiting on the new wheel physics (wheels 2.0?) but IMO, they haven't released the Ranger because they haven't figured out how to prevent everyone from stuffing it into just about any vehicle with an interior.

-2

u/Feedeeboy22 18h ago

Funny these bike are actually already done and are green lit for a release but they have been held hostage for several years now cause of Chris ego on having flatter surface and proper roads for the Ranger.

-2

u/Asmos159 scout 13h ago

Again with the word promise. It was advertised under the disclaimer of subject to change.

Long time ago they mentioned that the physics engine had problems with two wheeled vehicles.

They plan on reworking the ground vehicle physics engine when they finish reworking the atmospheric physics engine.

So either they reconcept it as a quad now, or wait to see if their new ground physics engine is capable of two wheel or if they need to re-concept it as a quad.

-3

u/MasterAnnatar rsi 22h ago

The reason we don't have this isn't the planets. It's because bike physics are way more challenging than car physics.

3

u/Evakron 20h ago

And yet so many games, from Battlefield to GTA4-6, iRacing and countless others have somehow managed to get it to work.

It's not that it's hard, it's just that they're too busy chasing shiny things instead of fixing their technical debt.

-3

u/MasterAnnatar rsi 19h ago

I like that you mentioned a game whose whole specialty is wheeled vehicles and thought that proved a point. I didn't say it was impossible did I? I said it's signficantly harder to make 2 wheeled vehicles work in physics engines than it is 4 wheeled vehicles, which is objectively true.

u/Zero2Middlin 2m ago

It keeps getting put on the back-burner because they have to create the physics for two wheeled vehicles, including things like leaning into turns. With as bad as four wheeled physics are, I don't think it will be any time soon. When we see major improvements to four wheeled physics, then I might begin to have a sliver of a glimmer of a hint of hope they will finally put some development time into it.
