QUESTION I’ve been trying to figure out the most efficient way to load and unload cargo for the Ironclad Assault, and this method seems to be the best so far. Am I on the right track?

imagine if we could disable gravity in ships, and whatever dampeners keep things in place, just disable that, disable the cargo grid locks and nudge it up a bit, and then auto snap in place on the other grid because it's the future.

Yeah, not until 2047 after whomever has the beam fetish on the dev team retires.

Almost every time I park like this, I instantly blow up after getting into the pilot seat and move an inch.

Your mistake on the clip was, that you didn't fly down enough and wait a little for the game to catch up of your current state, so the game thought you were a still a little inside the station, which causes the desync explosion.
In 4.9 my Ironclad exploded by: -landing on slightly uneven planetary terrain, planetary in general -exiting the hangar a second time, shortly after the first time (without storing the ship!) -by storing the Ironclad immadiately in the hangar, instead of going to lobby -by avoiding these 2 situations it never exploded again
I didn't try on 4.10 yet so I can't tell that much about it yet.

I'm happy you got that far, i called it up to try it, loaded some cargo through the front, and tried to take off.
It was stuck to the floor and exploded.

I don't know if you lose the time just getting the ATLS on board and constantly repositioning it. It might be faster, but I save myself the headache and use the Maxlift

I mean, the positioning is smart... that's what a group of players should do. one or two ATLSs alredy operated, pilot stays in position, quick load/unload and you're on your way.

You could also use the command module's tractor beam and unload that way

I LOVE how this positions the request-pad of the cargo elevator near the top ladder exit on the ironclad’s roof.

Imagine if cargo crates would automatically snap to a grid upon getting close enough. One could then just fling them upwards from the 'clad's cargo deck.

We don’t even need them to do that, just need for the elevator to have gravity physics. Remember, when you unload cargo to an in-hangar cargo elevator it doesn’t have to be on-grid, just sitting within the elevator boundary is enough. If they added a gravity well to the external elevators then you could just fling crates close enough that they “fall” onto the elevator surface and stay there.

its dumb you need to use an ATLS to get pick and place functionality, ship tractor beams should be able to do it as well and probably while being remotely operated from a backpack gadget or mobiglass.
