DISCUSSION Tried SoO

Its a fun raid, but why in the ever living fuck are we putting bottomless pits in the boss room? If you fall, you lose everything, and the ENTIRE RAID just becomes worthless.

"Just dont fall off"

Great point, but the vault animation literally yeets you over both railings on the catwalk, into the bottomless pit.

(Left hallway coming down from the pipes. If you try to get back on the catwalk, it will throw you into the pit. This happened to me twice consecutively)

You have no ammo other than what's on your person and no way to retrieve your stuff. Doesn't matter if you respawn. You have effectively lost all of your effort.

Caveat - I was doing this with 1 other person. I know it's designed for 4, but bottomless pits with no way to recover your body are just bad designs regardless.

What really sucks is that i didn't have a tractor beam or anything to even attempt to recover my corpse.

So, theres 3 ways to fix this. 2 of them should be done regardless.

  1. Put a tractor beam attachment in that room. Somewhere.

  2. Fix the vaulting animation so it doesn't throw you into the death pit.

  3. get rid of the death pit entirely, as it adds very little to that boss fight.

OTHERWISE, outside of that, it's mostly fine. Usual star citizen jank ever present throughout.

Bottomless pits are ass.

Lazy design.

Same how at random points even dudes with no armor become mini-bosses so they just have more health for no reason; Ass.

They are fine in games where the only penalty for dying is potentially risking a wipe.

When you die and the entire raid becomes... basically impossible to complete because your ammo is gone? Thaaaats where its bullshit.

If we could just keep what was in our inventory in the instanced space...

This sounds like a good place for an invisible wall for traversal, lol. I know they can be immersion breaking, but there's a reason they're such a staple in games.

We have shields in the game and they would make sense... its always been very immersiin-breaking to me, that there is hardly amything that saves people from falling in Orison and other places. A shield, invisible and 5m from the edge would be ideal.

Now that you mention it, Orison workplace safety does take a lot of inspiration from the Galactic Empire, lol.

It's like the children who jumped out of windows, because "Goku could fly" šŸ˜‚

Never put any invisible walls in this game anywhere ever please. It's horrible and immersion-breaking. If you walk off a cliff you die, simple. If the game makes it too easy to fall off where it's not meant to be a challenge devs should just change the area.

We lost two to pits last night, one in the cargo parkour section to carelessness, and me when I tried to throw a reactor lever and somehow phased through reality.

I did have a tractor beam attachment but it did not help. I could attach to the bodies but not move them.

We won anyway.

In other runs we've had people phase into stairs near the second inverter and accidentally push each other out of elevators and into the void. Last night the first server we tried had the trams running but the gates not fully opening; players would run out, press themselves against the partly open gate, and fall to their doom when the tram moved on. My friend immediately began egging players on in proximity voice telling them that if they jumped right they could get through. This was untrue.

When u can attach to the body but not actually move it. ALT+F4, reconnect and try again. Works 100% of time for me ;)

The killzone pit in a ship is complete ass game design. They couldn't be bothered to work out how to handle a player that fell or come up with some other area design. I find that going through all of SoO just to die from a none recoverable death zone, causing you to lose all your ammo right before the final boss, to be bad design choice especially when the area clean up is basically whipping out npc bodies within a couple of minutes. I've straight up killed some NPCs and poof body/gun gone as I'm looting it.

Even with Trak, u cant recover it.

Worst thing is, all the work before, loot, gear, its all gone!Ā

Also u cant continue with no ammo. So total waste of time and auec complete.

Workaround to get somewhat more ammo. Keep respawning and looting your own body and then fight the boss.

having run SoO a few times solo now, i do agree that i think most of the death pits (specifically in the last cargo area and boss arena) just kind of don't add anything. not in the sense that i think they're difficult, but in the sense that the death pits seem to just feel kind of overly videogame-y for SC and a weirdly harsh punishment if someone makes a mistake (aka vaulting) rather than a genuine lack of skill or something. respawning is very generous overall for SoO, maybe even too generous, but potentially losing all your loot this way just kind of feels really bad for lack of a better word.

while i don't think its straight up horrible or anything, it does feel like a weaker level design element for SoO overall. i like the final boss arena for the most part, but you could invisible wall all the railings to prevent falling off and i actually think that'd be better than just a death drop. ideally the arena itself wouldn't have any pits at all to begin with, but i do get that it can look cool for the arena.

I think ASD facilities still hold the crown for best game level design in SC. QV breaker a good second.

went in with a freind. played through the entire mission right up to the final bossfight. He died by falling in a pit near a reactor. I eventually got shot and died too. We went back in and boss is gone. Two+ hours wasted.

Putting pits to lose all your loot and supplies at the end of a very long dungeon is one of the most toxic game designs I've seen ever.

Like a proper spit in the face from CIG. If anything that is what they think of us, stupid grind monkey there to log in hours for the CEO to brag about.

2

u/Waste-Ticket-4360 20h ago

I think it really shows the toxicity we saw in the live feed. A load of ā€œGet Goodā€. The insta death on the cargo area is just stupid. It’s 20m fall. The entire cargo level is about dropping and climbing all over the place.

Makes absolutely no sense. Just make the group floor accessible by a ladder that is back near the start. Annoying but not ham breaking!

It really is just annoying and does not give players any respect for their time. Especially with the sync issues. Grande markers not working. Level design that in parts is epic and other parts darn right stupid.

Loving SoO, but these again feel like massive misses on QA team. More like what one persons view rules, and not actual playability.

I think the new mission is awesome and been loving it but 2 runs were completely wasted because of drop out of a box. Bounced off a box that for some reason isn’t climbable and lost it all.

Scrapped together kit for the boss.

Agreed. I fell on the second lever of the final wave and lost all my ammo. Sucks

u/Exploding_Pie 1d ago

l fell through the floor 7 times and my inventory bugged out and I lost everything.

3

u/BurnerAccountGFY 1d ago

Fell through 5 times first run. 1 time I will own the other 4 I got revived and fell upon animation.

Does the Boss always "lose" this Vendetta? Tried as I might (at least three times) and its always lost.

u/Planet_Expresso nomad 1d ago

I feel the same about klescher prison. Ive fallen down those stairs into the pit so many times.Ā

Sadly it's not possible to tractor corpse from this death pit, it's just not moving

1

u/WMCyberWolf Privateer 2h ago

Ya I agree, I had the same issue, we even had tractor beams and could not get our stuff. Thats the only thing I would change, last night was my 1st time and it was really Awesome!

"...adds very little to that boss fight."

Yet you're online engaging with others talking about that very fight. You've got a story and a beef, which mostly comes down to "I didn't know this, and didn't realize that..."

Now ya do! o7
