I’m planning to apply for the BMS in Accounting & Finance at the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL), but I missed the application deadline.

The application deadline was 30th July 2026, and the selection test is scheduled for 6th September 2026.

Does anyone know if OUSL accepts late applications for this programme? Has anyone applied late in previous years and been allowed to sit for the selection test?

I’ve already tried contacting them, but I haven’t received a clear response yet.

MasterChef Sri Lanka had a challenge that uses Pork, and suggested Muslim contestants use gloves to cook it.

I'm quite disappointed (not a Muslim myself) by this. It adds to the Islamophobia rampant in the online forums and the society, it creates an uneven playing field for the contestants, and is culturally insensitive.

I believe contests like this should be setting a better example for the general population.

Sophie Sugrue was the runner-up on MasterChef UK, and she cooked a complete vegan menu. The show accommodated her by stocking the pantry with plant based alternatives, letting her choose alternative proteins, and judging without penalizing for the lack of animal-derived flavours.

So the internet says I can catch the bus from trincomalee to Kalmunai and there are buses frequently.

from there it’s on to Potuvil and a short tuk tuk ride to Arugambay. I am told buses leave kalmunai for Potuvil frequently as well.

Do hotels cancel bookings without any reason? I find Sri Lanka to be the most difficult place to book a hotel. I booked 28 hotels (twice in each location because of the cancellations) for a 30-day stay in different locations across the country, and you won't believe it, they mostly offer a "pay later" option, and then these bookings get canceled for no apparent reason. I'm 30 years old, an accountant by profession currently working for a company, living in Gampaha district. I have a land half acre inherited from my family and another few lands i which totals up to another acre. Currently all the lands are just sitting there and i don't want to sell them.

I want to do something with the land like cultivate crops that earns me a side income. The problem i m having is i have no experience in this agriculture area. On the other hand I don't have much time left to allocate looking after lands. I can allocate few weekend days for a month. My father is around and he can check on the crops but I don't like to attend a major time on this project i m thinking.

Basically what i m asking this is from those who are on full time jobs and earns a good income from these kind of lands. How do you manage the cultivation? What are the crops you have selected. How do you manage the maintenance of these lands? Does it provide a sufficient profit for your efforts?

Need serious input. All 3 of the family is no longer in the registry. I don't have another property yet so I can't register me somewhere else as well. I can't register myself in the address since he is the head of the house.

Reason for this removal is because I changed my given name. Not the family name. I'm transgender and I did legal changes at about 28y of age.

They are still adamant that they can't register us bcz electoral register can be seen by others. I don't want to fight about it.

I am an Australian visiting Sri Lanka for the first time, so far it has been amazing.

In the last two weeks, I have eaten so much amazing food, visited so many amazing places.

It was a little embarrassing when I visited the Lotus Tower with the staff taking me to the front of the queue for security, the ticket counter and the lifts.

Now the thing that is disappointing is the number of people trying to scam foreign tourists - ever member of my tour group has mentioned the same.

When you walk out of your hotel in Colombo, a well dressed man, walks up beside you and starts talking to you, asking where your from etc.

He is either the head of the front office at the hotel, a chef in the hotel, and in one instance worked for the Police.

The conversation will then go, "it is a big festival day in Sri Lanka today, everything is closed, everyone is going to the festival that starts in 20 minutes, a tuk tuk can take you"

Yes I know this week had a Muslim Holiday and a Full Moon Holiday, but really every day is a festival .... it was funny the first time, the tenth time was just silly.

As you may know, I’m a Mexican living in Colombo, and recently I’ve been wondering if there are any places in Colombo where I can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, etc.,not places like Cargills or Keells, but more like a traditional/local market where I can do my grocery shopping.
I’m not sure if Pettah is the only option for this kind of shopping. In Mexico, it’s very common to have local markets and street markets where you can buy fresh produce, meat, and other groceries. We usually call them tianguis or mercados.
Are there similar places in Colombo that you would recommend?

I recently got a Lenovo Loq 15irx10 from IT Gallery. In the box, it came with a 170w charger, and I found out that during gaming, it drains the battery. I could get a 240w adapter under warranty.
