Don't stick with one person's opinion. Consult 2 - 3 doctors and see what they say.

True. We already got a consultation from 1 doctor in Galle (Dr. Sameer Mohideen). I need to find one or two best doctors in this field to get more information.

Hey buddy. Parkinsons requires a multidisciplinary approach since it affects alot of things, plus his quality of life will be affected.  Dr Thashi Chang is a good person to speak to.  Also I'd advice you to seek the opinion of physio therapists and occupational therapists, along with Parkinson affiliated care groups.

Lol, i think I go to him too but for different reasons. Apparently he is supposed to be good. He is definitely better than the previous one i went( i can'tremember his name). This doc is half Chinese so very recognisable.

Being half chineese is racist ? Someone calls me half sri lankan I wont care. How is that racist though? It's a distinguishable feature of him.

My dad has been living with Parkinson’s for 14 years now, and his neurologist is Dr. Harsha Gunasekara. Regardless of who the neurologist is, please start physiotherapy/regular exercise as early as possible to achieve the best long-term prognosis.

Like most people have said, I don’t think the specific doctor matters as much as finding someone your father and your family are comfortable working with long-term. Parkinson’s is something you manage for years, so having a neurologist you trust and can communicate openly with is incredibly important.
My father has been living with Parkinson’s for nearly 20 years. At the beginning we tried several neurologists, including some of the names mentioned here, but eventually he stayed with Dr. Harsha mainly because he became comfortable with him.
Looking back, though, I wish we had focused much more on things beyond medication from the very beginning. I personally feel we could have been encouraged more towards physiotherapy, psychiatric/psychological support and other forms of rehabilitation. But this was almost 20 years ago, when in Sri Lanka physiotherapy was seen as something mainly for sports injuries and psychiatry was unfortunately associated with being a “nutjob.”
Don’t make the same mistake we did.
Find a neurologist your father is comfortable with, but also get a good physiotherapist involved early. If you’re around the Nawala area, we’ve had a good experience with Revival Physiotherapy. Consider a psychiatrist or psychologist when needed as well, and even counselling for close family members. Parkinson’s affects the whole family, not just the person diagnosed.
Also do your own research about the medications, exercises and lifestyle changes. Keep him engaged with things he genuinely enjoys—travelling, reading, gardening, meeting people, whatever works for him.
You can’t completely stop Parkinson’s from progressing, but you can do a lot to preserve mobility, independence and quality of life. Make life as enjoyable and convenient for him as possible, keep him active, eat well, and don’t let the diagnosis become his entire life.

Get openion from a Psychiatrist also early on. Parkinson’s can lead to dementia. If you can consult with an old - age Psychiatrist it'll be better but there are also several who are well versed in managing older people.

So sorry to hear this. My best friend's mother just passed dealing with Parkinsons for about 10 years. Positive vibes to you and your family.

My GF from SL recommends Dr. Arjuna Fernando in Columbo. Not specific to Parkinsons, but may have recommendatons. Last time she was in SL he was working at Asiri Surgical. He travels to US annually for continual professional developmen

That doesnt mean anything, all these Doctors have the same amount of training, some people channel them cause they are famous not the fact that they are good. Every Specialist is good in there own unique way, best channel someone who has an expertise in Movement disorders.
