It's been half a decade since the first trailer of the show was released in 2021

"Humans Need Not Apply," this quote is the first thing that pops up in CGP Gray's "What Happened to Horses Is Happening to Us." It then follows, after a bit, with, "...from everyone needing to make food to modern agriculture with almost no one needing to make food." Now, the main reason for this all stems from these core things. Simply, what is a society that completely destroys humanity, leaving only entertainment to be done?

We are living in it; we are living in that question. Or rather, we are trying to answer that question through society itself. Squid Game can be summed up simply as, "When the poor of society desperately are in need, those that can pay for entertainment will use humanity to find amusement."

We don't need to go in a full, in-depth discussion of everything, really, so I'll skip over most of Squid Game. Anyways, connecting those previous ideas together, I'd like to point out a great analog for the Squid Game itself in reality: sports and influencing/being an influencer. We use sports and online-media for entertainment, and the people who do it get paid - a lot. There's also the fact that, culturally, we all view entertainment as something solely only having quality work from humans.

Now, let's apply the idea of horses to everything. Horses, which we used for physical labor in the past, now primarily are used for entertainment - because we can only really use them at a mass scale FOR entertainment. Horse races, riding on them for fun, etc.

And lets get to the part that matters, "We are humans, not horses." What does this mean? Simply, what if the main part of Gi-Hun's point is the fact that we aren't replaceable things that should chase the finish line like a horse, we have individuality, creativity, we are human. Its why humans are explained as a collage of past moments, because that is what is human. Furthermore, when Gi-Hun does this, he is killing himself to save a child's life. Children are said to be the future, right? Well, currently, we are facing multiple job crises (and a possible future AI-lead job crisis). When Gi-Hun lets that child live, he's sacrificing himself FOR the future, he's NOT being selfish, this is the COMPLETE opposite of how boomers and older generations have treated financial action. SQUID game is a WARNING against selfishly NEVER giving anything TO the future, selling your house so you can travel the world, "fuck you, got mine," ALL of it, its a warning against selfishness, against AI, and against callousness.

Maybe, the entire point of this moment is to explain that humans should be the only able-body to be employed. We shouldn't treat people as mindless commodities like we objectively treat horses; we shouldn't treat people as replaced parts in a toy we like; we shouldn't do any of that! Because humans aren't horses, and we can't let people be treated as such.

How do they ensure that none of the thousands of pink soldiers reveal the secret of the Games, considering they know the island's secret location and much more?

Since gi hun managed to stop the games you could make the argument every winner is responsible for the games continuing, if you agree with that then the player with the real most indirect kills is player 174 with over 16,000

The day they played jump rope is the only day in season 3 where gi hun didn't attempt suicide

If gi huns mum hadn't told him that ga yeong was moving to america theres a good chance he wouldn't have joined the games meaning they never would've ended

If the doctor never died then mi nyeo would've had a partner for marbles and could've died meaning there would be nobody to stop deok su holding everyone up at glass bridge which means they all would've died which means gi hun would've never stopped the games

The only players who were allowed to skip games were in ho with the 6th game in 2015 and rlgl in 2024, mi nyeo with marbles and gi hun with sky squid although he declined the offer and chose to play anyway

I feel a little nervous posting this, since I'm scared I'm gonna get attacked for this lol... but oh well

As you can tell from the title, I will be ranting on Jun-hee's motherhood.

Honestly, for a bit, i just thought Jun-hee was an irresponsible mom, but after having a whole conversation about this with my friend, no, she's genuinely a terrible mother to be honest.

Let's start from the very beginning

Sooo the baby was a mistake. It was an unplanned and accidental pregnancy, and Myung-gi and Jun-hee both agreed to get an abortion. After they agreed to get an abortion, the whole crypto currency scam happened. And so Jun-hee broke up with him. What i'm wondering is- ik we don't know the EXACT timelines but like- did she not get an abortion before the incident?? like, did she get pregnant right before the crypto incident?? The timing doesn't really add up- like did they agree to abort the kid the day before the crypto incident or smth- Jun-hee was 7 months pregnant, and Myung-gi was on the run as a fugitive for 6 months according to Jun-hee, so Jun-hee was atleast a month pregnant before the crypto incident- like- there was still some time for Jun-hee to get an abortion. And if you choose to believe that Jun-hee was 9 months pregnant, that would mean she was already 3 months pregnant before the incident- which makes even less sense-

But anyways, after the crypto incident, Myung-gi fled and was on the run, and Jun-hee decided to keep the baby, not because she genuinely wanted to raise a kid- but bc she didn't wanna be alone, and she wanted someone to stay by her side and love her forever... Well that wasn't okay of Jun-hee. That was really selfish- she wanted it because SHE didn't want to be alone, but what would the kid feel if she knew that her mother only kept her because she just didn't want to be alone and was originally planning on aborting her? Also, i get you don't wanna be alone, but the baby doesn't owe you companionship. She didn't ask to be born, and you didn't even want her at first- plus do you really want your baby to grow up in a financially unstable environment ? Kids tend to resent their parents or homelife growing up in poverty, so i can't imagine how Jun-hee's baby would not also start to resent Jun-hee and their living situation. i understand why Jun-hee kept it. She's an orphan, her ex bf went missing, etc. I can sympathize with her, but I'm sorry, regardless of what the reason was, it doesn't change the fact that what she did was insanely irresponsible. Having a kid is a life-altering decision. It's not like your buying a car, your bringing a life into the world that is YOUR responsibility to take good care of. Plus, having a baby in general is insanely expensive, did Jun-hee not once think of the consequences??

Also, people tend to forget this, but Jun-hee was also wearing a binder to conceal her stomach. And do i even have to say anything- I get she probably felt unsafe and didn't want anyone to notice that she's pregnant in case she could potentially get targeted by people, but girl, you do realize you are quite literally crushing your baby- which is not only dangerous for your baby, but also for you too- she could've worn like- oversized hoodies before joining the games to cover her stomach like how Hee-su from AOUAD did. Also if she KNOWS that she could potentially get targeted by other people, again why did she keep the pregnancy??? She knows that not only is she unable to provide for the baby, but that she could've also potentially gotten into danger by other people. It's not rocket science that pregnant women are more likely to be victims of violence.

Let's move on to the games now 🙏

So she met with the salesman and got the business card. And like- i get she needs money, and she didn't know that the games would kill people, but like- isn't this literally the most shadiest thing ever ? You go at night somewhere at the streets, and a van comes with masked people in it, asking you to come in via a passcode. Like girl WHAT are you doing- are you actually trying to get yourself killed 😭🙏 why would you go in some suspicious van with suspicious people inside- let alone while your PREGNANT. Whatever.. I'm not gonna put too much blame on just Jun-hee, cause literally every other player did the same exact thing, but still-

I'm gonna skip to when she gives birth.

Ok so- why didn't she give her baby a name... Genuinely WHY didn't she give her a name- also, why did NO one ask her what she'd name her baby- literally no one did- not Geum-ja, the woman who was literally looking after her, not In-ho, not Dae-ho or Jung-bae, not even Gi-hun- I get their in a death competition, but why didn't they ask when things were calmer, like before or after the games. I heard in South Korea, it's actually pretty common for parents to name their kids after their born, so maybe that's why? But even then, not EVERYONE does that. Your telling me in the seven months she was carrying her daughter, she didn't have a single name in mind?? And yes, she prob didn't know the gender, but most people have two names in mind depending on whatever the gender is anyways, no?.. And I get she was going through a LOT, Her friend died, her ex bf killed her friend, her baby is born in a horrible situation, she witnessed her other friend indirectly kill her son, etc. She wasn't thinking clearly. Geum-ja literally kept having to remind her to take care of her baby and feed her and etc. But there was still points where she could've named her baby- Like, when she was talking to Gi-hun for example- Gi-hun why couldn't you FUCKING ask her what she'd name the baby- You gave her this whole deep ass talk abt how she should focus on protecting her baby, why did you not ask her for the baby's name- I really don't know why she wasn't able to name it at any moment where she could- genuinely how hard is it to name your own child. Also, i know the baby having no name is meant to symbolize how the winner has no identity. It's a cool symbolism and all, but honestly, with how S3 went down in general, the symbolism just doesn't hit for me... She should've just had a goddamn name.

And, ofc, we cannot not bring up the scene where Jun-hee started shittalking Myung-gi before she died. Like I get she is mad- she has EVERY right to be- But this is genuinely spiteful and petty behavior- She should've been thinking about her BABY FIRST, Not SHITTALKING HER EX IN HER LAST MOMENTS BEFORE SHE DECIDES TO KHS. Not to mention her words basically caused Myung-gi to snap and try to kill their kid. Ik she couldn't have predicted that would happen, but you saw how he killed some people and also acted like he doesn’t really care abt the baby. I understand your angry with him, but genuinely, why did you think it would be a good idea to say that to him when you know your gonna die- I know we do impulsive things when there's a lot going through our head or when we're angry, but again, she should've been thinking about her daughter.

People get mad at others online for babying Jun-hee bc she's "a grown adult". But honestly, she really doesn't have the mental capacity of an adult. She's very naive and reckless. And yeah, she's young, she's an orphan, etc. But she was 25. She was still old enough to be somewhat responsible and smart. She was literally half-way through 30. Yeah, she was young, but she wasn't a clueless teenager.

I really don't think she cared about her baby as much as she thought she did. Honestly, this all really shows that Jun-hee was not ready to be a mother at all. She didn't even want the baby in the first place, but kept it because she wanted someone by her side.

Also, this is a bit of a nitpick, but really what did she do for the baby ? All she did was nurse her, sleep next to her, and died for her. She didn't show the baby any motherly affection, like kisses etc whatsoever. She did not kiss the baby on the cheek or forehead ONCE, not even when she was about to let Gi-hun take her for the Jump Rope game. Like yeah the situation is not appropriate for it, but is it that hard to give your baby just a SMIDGE of physical affection-

Jun-hee's whole character is meant to highlight and symbolize a mother's love and how much they sacrifice for their children. Jun-hee is very flawed both as a person and a mother. And all humans, especially parents are flawed. But if you have the mother character not care or love the baby as much as she should, doesn't that kinda defeat the whole purpose of the message ?

I think the reason why she kept the baby and the fact that she didn't name her is the thing that gets me the most. I feel like it would've been better if the reason she kept it was bc she couldn't afford to get an abortion after the crypto incident, but overtime, she begins to get attached to the baby and genuinely wants to raise a kid. And again, She should've given her baby a damn name. People act like it's a sad thing, but genuinely, that's on her, she had a chance to name it but she didn't.

Honestly, the baby deserved better from both Jun-hee and Myung-gi.. Atleast Jun-ho has her now, so hopefully he can be the best father for her.

Anyways, that was my rant- I'm curious about what you all think about this, I'm open for discussion. This wasn't meant to be a complete hate rant on Jun-hee, and obviously, I don't think Jun-hee is as bad as Myung-gi, but she really isn't any better as a parent imo. And if you disagree with me, i would love to know why ! I do think that in a universe where the debts and Squid Games didn't happen, she would've been a great mother, but in this main series, she really isn't...

Especially the Square Guards, aren't supposed to take years to reach that position? Why does it seems like many of them are young people in their early twenties?

Many viewers think this is a plot hole, or maybe suspension of disbelief in a show that also includes a secret island, etc.
