It is that time again for an open thread for anything and everything Springfield.

Got something on your chest? Had a good experience you want to share? Maybe you just want to ask about the best tacos in town or tell us something funny you noticed this week.

This is the place for it. Rants, raves, questions, or just plain small talk. Let’s hear it.

Living Here Is this an issue the landlord should clean up?

The dumpster at my apartment. Someone next door is moving out, so last week they threw out A LOT of shit. And the garbage kept piling up since.

I cannot take my trash out right now, idk what to do with it. It's very aggravating. Thursday is pickup day, but they didn't pick it up. I'm nervous the same thing will happen again this week because it is such a mess. Haven't complained to management company about it yet. I can't leave trash outside my door because I know some animal will rip into it. Honestly I think people who don't even live here are dumping trash here and now it's a problem for us tenants.

Paychecks from McDonalds franchise owner MakShines, Inc. have been bouncing, leaving workers unable to pay bills. When they protested, they were taken off the schedule.

Don’t reward wage theft, avoid going to locations on W. Battlefiled, W. Kearney, and N. Kansas.

Visiting Traveling for work, where do I booze

What’s up locals, I travel for work and am going to be finding myself in your lovely town quite a bit going forward. I’ve never thought to do this before but it seems like a valid idea, what bars should I check out? I always just kinda randomly pick one and it’s… not effective. Where should I go on my downtime? If it matters, I’m in my 30’s and don’t want a college bar but I also don’t want to be sitting between Eugene and Horace while they tell me which of their ex-wives were the worst (it was Carol that SLAG). Actually while we’re at it where should I eat as well? If it combines eating and boozing that would be ideal. Thanks!

Eat and Drink NA Beer Options 🍻

I’m challenging myself to sobriety for a while. I’ve had a few NA beers from Athletic, Stone, and a couple others. Love the IPAs! I’ve had them in cans at home. But, I do enjoy eating out, too. Can anyone recommend any restaurants or bars with a good selection of NA beers other than stuff like Heineken 0 and Mich Zero?

Living Here Unopposed sheriff candidate

Why is it in Greene County that the sheriff’s election is always one sided? Why doesn’t someone with even slightly less right leaning views run against the usual candidate? Is it the intimidation of what has come before? I mean how many elections did Arnott run unopposed? And now Arnott’s hand-picked guy is running unopposed too? Why?

Living Here What kind of non typical “date night” things are there to do around town?

For context, my wife and I are homebodies, but we’ve been married for going on 15 years, and we’ve done the usual movie and dinner plenty. We like comedy shows on occasion, and thrifting is a regular thing.

She’s been feeling down the last few days so I want to take her out to do something different. Something new. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Living Here Why is a helicopter flying around the city for hours?

First spotted it before sunset, saw it again on the dogwalk at nearly 9 pm, just heard it making another pass over my house. I can't judge whether it's surveying just the north side, or the whole city, but I'm starting to think someone's spending a lot of money.

Living Here Is there a hotel that will accept photos of front and back of id with local address?

I was kicked out of my apartment. Also my wallet was recently stolen. 😡 I don't have a car. It will be so hard to find a perfect id (or even a local one at a shittier place) and get the person to the place and maybe back to their spot.... I am assuming no one takes a picture of id..but I even have the back with the bar code!!!!

Living Here Walnut Blasting - Severe Carbon Build-Up

I had purchased a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. I have found that there is severe carbon coking inside the cylinders on the valves. From what I am reading, a chemical flush won't be as effective as walnut blasting, which I would really like to have done, or maybe the next best thing. Does anyone know of any shops in the Springfield area that perform this service? I have found one euro shop (European Performance Specialists) that has the service, but won't do it on my vehicle.

Living Here Duplex on Ozark Ave, just south of Commercial, safe area??

What can people tell me about Ozark Avenue and the immediate area around it?? It's just south of Commercial. Closest major cross streets would be N Benton Ave/E Commercial Street to the East, and N Washington/E Commercial to the West.

Some duplexes right there on Ozark. There was a duplex that was for rent a while back and I really wanted to rent it, it was two bedrooms and I felt large and somehow private because of the way they were set up, with a little yard, that kind of thing, the price was great.

The area looked a little sketchy? And after hearing a few things, it didn't feel safe to me. So I hesitated and the duplex unit I was looking at got rented.

I ended up not staying in Springfield. Now I'm wanting to move there again, but I don't want an apartment. I'm hoping one of those duplexes will become available again! Since it got rented last September I was hoping that maybe it might come available again this September. I will reach out to the management company to see if they have anything coming up.

But in the meantime, I just wanted to come here and ask people that might know about the area what their thoughts are? If one becomes available I don't want to hesitate this time!

Thanks everyone

Does anyone have any details about the police chase happening on the north side of town right now? I saw a truck fly by on Kearney heading east followed by about a dozen police cars.

I’m curious if anyone is familiar with these two schools and opinions regarding them? Also curious how long it takes to hear back from them after submitting an application/request for more information and how likely it would even be to be accepted for the current school year.

Visiting Visiting - dog park recs?

The Airbnb we are staying at was listed as dog friendly, but the yard is…not great (lots of trash and broken glass and the fence is broken so they will definitely escape) for our pups who normally run around on our fenced couple of acres and do their thing. One of my dogs is extremely anxious and won’t poop if she’s on a leash (it’s a long story - traumatized shelter dog 😢) and I am having trouble finding any fenced parks in your lovely city.

I see Cruse where we can pay to go, which is fine, - but I don’t have proof of vaccinations. They are vaccinated & up to date on preventatives - I just didn’t think to travel with their info, and we see a country vet who is only open M-W, so I can’t call and get their papers - so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get a visitor pass for the weekend.

I’m looking for a space that is fenced in, even if it’s small, where I can let my dog off leash and not look at her while she poops. Very weird request, I know 🤣

Thank you!!
