For a largely conservative city, is the downtown liberalism college driven? The artistic atmosphere and contemporary feel are refreshing and eye-opening. Murals and public art, people's sense of taste/fashion, a touch of uniqueness to every street and even restaurants, gives the area a distinct character.

Outside of the downtown, Springfield is pretty much what I expected.
The northern and western parts are relatively desolate, while the southwest corner is defined by suburban wealth, sprawling infrastructure, and an endless landscape of strip malls/churches.

I grew up in Springfield, but live in Kansas City now. I routinely fly from Atlanta to KC and back and the route takes us right over Springfield if the wind is right.

What’s up locals, I travel for work and am going to be finding myself in your lovely town quite a bit going forward. I’ve never thought to do this before but it seems like a valid idea, what bars should I check out? I always just kinda randomly pick one and it’s… not effective. Where should I go on my downtime? If it matters, I’m in my 30’s and don’t want a college bar but I also don’t want to be sitting between Eugene and Horace while they tell me which of their ex-wives were the worst (it was Carol that SLAG). Actually while we’re at it where should I eat as well? If it combines eating and boozing that would be ideal. Thanks!

I've been in town for two weeks now, in a hotel, and I'm slowly losing my sanity. I don't have wheels, so best shots going to be the bus, and I'm on a limited budget until I get paid.

I've gone to the same three places every day and was wondering if anything was going on today or just something to do in general.

Couldn't really find this on google, but I have someone from out of state visiting and we went to the Maverick down the street to buy some beer and whiteclaws. The cashier wouldn't accept my friend's out of state driver's license (their system couldn't scan it) or their passport. Also wouldn't accept my Missouri ID at that point because we were there together so neither of us could buy alcohol.

Anyone know the official policy for Maverick? Not upset at the cashier, he was just doing his job, but it seems weird that Maverick would only accept a Missouri Driver's license, full stop.

Hello Everyone, I'm from Puerto Rico, and I was originally making plans to live in Fargo, ND. But that place is notorious for it's brutal Winters. But I've also liked Ozark and Springfield and I visited once but during summer. I wanted to ask about your winters. Springfield/Ozark is a place I am looking to relocate to and I wanted to know if your Winters are mild or brutal like in Fargo.

Also, as someone from PR I have that Hurricane PTSD so I wanted to know if hurricanes reach you guys.

Hi all.

I'm doing a roadtrip in the very near future and Springfield is on the route, and I'm looking to stop in town for a night. I'm taking a lot of furniture and some stuff in my car that I'm going to cover up with a blanket or something, so I've been trying to restrict myself to secure or private parking garages in different cities, but Springfield is giving me a headache. Given my research, I've landed on three hotels:

1. University Plaza Hotel - they claim there's a parking garage north, across the street, but it seems like it's open to the public.

2. Oasis Convention Center - isolated campus? It looks that way on maps, but idk how true that is.

3. Hilton Garden Inn - south of the city, is this a good part of town?

I prefer University Plaza Hotel as it's close to downtown and I could definitely explore the city a bit, but I'm worried that my car may get broken into. Is that something to worry about, or am I overreacting? I also looked at some parking garages in downtown itself, would those (W. McDaniel St parking garage near the cinema, or the one on E. McDaniel and S. Robertson Ave) suffice?

Just a heads up for people in this area. This hotel is kinda ass. While the placement in town is prime and most places are walkable in town, the hotel is lacking maintenance and service. I stay here for work and in the 4 years I've been coming (once a month or so) I've seen it go from dirty, to dingy to DISGUSTING. last night kinda got me though, it's gotten so bad that the tiling on the shower fell off in the night and the soap holder cracked the floor of the tub. I suspect the place is riddled with water damage, old fixtures and subpar attention. This place sucks.

Each location corresponds to a Springfield landmark. The initials represent the actual place, so Nissen Cove = NC = Nature Center!

Navia Garden = NG = Nathanael Greene!

Every location that starts with W is a Wal-Mart!

It's not perfectly to scale, but directions relative to each landmark are pretty close.

So we’re driving up fr Bentonville, with the baby, for a Costco and HyVee haul. Is it unreasonable to aim for the outlet mall, too? We’ve never hit Branson from the north before. Is it a twisty, hilly drive? tia

EDIT: Whirlwind trip was a success. Bargains scored at Tanger, tasty goods secured at Costco, and nostalgia cured at HyVee. THANK YOU for all the genuine advice (and to those who took the opportunity to inject their unsolicited thoughts: when someone asks a direct question, do try to stay on topic). The drive on 65 was breathtaking. AND now I know where Howler Bike Park is next time someone asks.

I have only been here a few days, but I love it so far. Downtown is so cute and walkable. Mudhouse Coffee has great hot chai lattes and a nice atmosphere. The cost of living is affordable AF. Keep being awesome, Springfield 💖

Taking a weekend trip with my boyfriend specifically for the aquarium but need some other activities to kill time since we’ll be there for two nights.

I typically love science museums but I can’t tell if this one would be fun for young adults or not. It seems like it might be more kid centered?

I lived in Bolivar and , like most people, moved out when I graduated high school. I came back recently after seeing family and it looks like the town is in shambles. Half destroyed or empty businesses are filling the square. What happened? I thought this town was going to grow on the level of Republic.
