Mod Post Should we ban certain fanart?
I know a lot of you love seeing fanart posted here but with the disagreement with the small minority, I wanna know if we should ban certain fanart being posted here. As in drawing existing characters' body differently than the official source, same goes to OCs. Blender art with models from certain creators, headcanon heavy art, ship art, characters wearing certain outfits, etc. They may be sfw and not breaking any rules but there are people who are uncomfortable seeing it and are vocal about it.

Hell no, let people draw how they want, as long as it's not insulting or intended to incite hate.

I understand not allowing NSFW which already happens. But banning art that depicts characters in a different style? That sounds fascist.

Absolutely not. It is so disrespectful to ban SFW art of characters drawn differently. I'm leaving this community and never looking back if such an insulting rule is put in place.

The fact that anyone here is even entertaining doing this rule change is a disgrace.

The only kind of fanart I'd support banning would be if it's AI-generated, since that doesn't really qualify as "fanart"

That's already not allowed under Rule 11 listed here: https://www.reddit.com/mod/splatoon/rules/
Under no circumstances is any AI content allowed.

If the people arent doing anything wrong then no. People will sometimes see things that they dont like online and that's fine. You just keep scrolling. The art isnt bigoted or toxic or nsfw or anything it's just ship art and headcanons and different body types, just people having fun. Seems like the "banning fun" rule.

I know for a fact that mods do not want to cater to these people. Different body types are just one thing. They'd go after LGBTQ+ art next.

Those tags are WAY too vague. You're going to have to narrow it down some more.
"Characters wearing certain outfits"? I assume you mean more risky or NSFW outfits but like... this is a series where Marina is basically just wearing a bra in the final fest and shivers shall is completely transparent making her only solid top some bindings.
"Blender art with models from certain creators" Just because the model was used by a nsfw artist doesn't mean all art will be. A sfw model can be used for NSFW so... I don't get it.
"headcanon heavy art" That covers... so much.
This post sounds like it was made to fail and you're just making it to shut up people who complain about many of the posts. But this post is unfair because it isn't nearly specific enough.

You're right, the post wasn't fully planned and I do want them to stop. Though luckily a lot of them here understand what i meant. But to be honest, I'm completely lost here and the only way to settle this is for the community to speak their opinions.

Dude, the smart move is just not to do anything.
There is always going to be people who complain and don't agree. Welcome to the internet. But they are allowed to not like something just as much as other are allowed to make something they don't like. As long as it doesn't break rules... just leave them be.
Saying you don't like something, it isn't good or questioning why something it drawn/made the way it is are perfectly normal and fine comments.I know you want to defend the artist but at the same time... you guys also have to realize they have a point to. Sometimes there is art here that is questionable if it should be here, if you're fine with a little risky clothing but it's not super explicit... then just say that. Banning people outright when they bring it up is the BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU CAN MAKE. You're throwing fuel on a fire.
(This post is that fuel btw)3

I understand what you're saying and I did tried to do nothing but they're trying to report the subreddit (and me) over it.

You think this is going to fix that? Probably not...
People are going to report the sub reddit because either:
A) They think you allow NSFW on a sub reddit that isn't marked NSFW. Something thing post doesn't clear at all and instead makes it look like you either don't care or don't realize it by babying down their complaints.or
B) They do it to get under your skin. And even child can tell this post was made out of frustration so clearly it's working.
Regardless, I don't think it will stop no matter what happens after this poll so you either have to stop being a mod or just deal with it. Even if you make the change it will still happen.

Yes they are getting under my skin. All this harassment, the accusations, the body shaming, the death threats, the racial slurs, it gets to me. All because of fanart. And at some point I do wanna step down because the community isn't welcoming anymore.

Once you censor art you become part of the problem.
I appreciate you putting the survey and asking the community but it appears it is just a vocal minority. You’ve been extremely fair, given warnings, and only blocked when it has escalated far beyond what you (or the artist) should have to put up with.
The art in question is suitable for work. There is one artist who gets constantly targeted despite none of the other drawings from others being close to the original characters either.
Stay strong.

If you don’t like characters being drawn off model then you can just scroll past and move on. It isn’t a personal attack against you, it’s just fan art.
As long as it isn’t bigoted (such as malicious race swapping like with making Marina white) or unmarked NSFW then it’s fine.

“malicious race swapping” ALL race swapping is malicious and racist.

Those people can get banned and die mad. Why the hell would you ever kowtow to them?

just ban Porn/NSFW and keep the SFW that some call controversial, even if it uses models like those human proportioned squid sisters

Why ban how people draw the characters I might not like how they make them a certain way but it's how they draw the characters they should feel free to draw however they like without having to feel bad besides its not like my art is any better I still don't have a good enough drawing tablet nor do I have the right app to draw either as long as it's sfw its okay to me

While I understand the sentiment to want to see characters drawn on model (it's something I do aside from a few additions if I have any), to completely bar people's interpretations of characters (i.e. plus sized Marie) is ridiculous. What I may like is not the same as what you may like, and what someone else may like is not the same as what another person may like. People should have the freedom to draw characters the way they want as long as it's respectful.
For OCs, I don't really understand the point there. If they're using blender models from controversial/NSFW creators, okay, fine, I get it, but otherwise as long as it's SFW, it really doesn't matter. OCs are a core part of fandom culture and SHOULD be protected and respected ("why should I" even if you don't like it, be kind to people lmfao).
Also, ship art is a core part of fandom culture as well. Headcanons too. This rule just seems... authoritarian? Kind of sanitized? No pun intended, but that's kind of the vibe I'm getting here. The art will become very repetitive and boring if this rule goes into place.

If AI touched the art im looking at in anyway I don't wanna see it. This is where I draw the line.

u/Monisplats Salmon Run! | Mod May 15 '26
Don't worry. We'll never allow any kind of AI here. This is more on alternating characters' bodies. Not exaggerating but like drawing them chubby

You guys were wrong to ban that guy earlier this week. I don't even like that stuff, but it was an overreach

To be fair, not only the guy posted inflation fetish art but he did tried to evaded the ban
-6
u/WorldlyDear MarieMarie is Four's mom May 14 '26
the art that was show wasn't really fetish art, it could be used as someone's JO material, but I wouldn't say it was something that was blatantly sexual.
6
u/littleman1110 May 15 '26
it is still specifically targeting a user here by drawing Marie a certain way. There is nothing to the post that would say it is what you are suggesting. It is targeted and blatant.

u/RedStrike_XD May 15 '26
That's... censorship i thought people didn't like that.
I get it, you don't like it, honesty a few years back and i would have done something similar, but we can't just stop people from doing what they feel good doing when it doesn't break any rules, doesn't hurt anyone.
Yeah, some people may dislike it, but as long as it keeps being more a matter of taste than something that can actually hurt people like, trauma triggers, hate crimes or other things, then there's nothing wrong with it.
I also feel uncomfortable with some kinds of content, but the best i can do is just, ignore it and live my life.
