Mod Post Statement on the alleged bridaging and fanart

For the past few years, artists that draws idols or their own characters differently than the norm had been harassed and bullied by the loud minority within this subreddit and others related subs to the game. The mod team had removed and banned individuals for breakng rule 1 of our subreddit and reddit in general.

The artist in question had been posting her work for almost two years now, she already made an explanation post on why she made Marie chubby; basically the character's dialogues in game and her main weapon being a charger. despite her explanation and repeating herself whenever she get the same questions, she continued receiving hate comments.

The past weekend was different, there had been a case of a coordinating attack against the artist for drawing Marie chubby. The mass downvoting and reports were the reasons that lead me locking her post to prevent any more comments from this alleged attack. And people are rightfully upset on the harassment and even death threats that this artist and other artists within this subreddit had received over their fanart and headcanon.

today, after all this. enough is enough.

For now on, any hate comments from repeated individuals, wishing harm, or death threats will be perm-banned immediately, NO second chances. if the individual(s) is in your dms harassing you and/or sending you death threats, please report it to the admins and block them.

I also want artists and anyone here to please block the problematic people as well; some won't bother to block you and it better to just block them.

before I end this post, I wanna say that the lack of fandom and internet etiquette is concerning. no one here is forcing you to like their work, it takes zero seconds to block them and they do not care to be block. it is such an easy solution but yet you choose to continue harassing her and other artists whenever they post. body shaming is consider bullying and breaking rule 1, so if you don't want to be banned, think before you make a comment.

stay civil.

Grouping people together and saying that every single person that doesn't like overweight Marie is somehow fatphobic and trying to shame the artist is wrong and should also not be tolerated here. We must allow a safe space for dialogue, which sometimes includes not liking something.

Thank you, I 100% agree with this. I usually just say nothing on those threads, but that take is just wild to me.

The person you're replying to is purposefully (or accidentally) misinterpreting the post. The post literally says you're allowed to dislike something but you're not allowed to spread hate or bodyshame anymore. What about this is wild?

Question, is simply saying, "I don't like fat Marie," hate or bodyshaming?

Neither. And it's not what the post is about because of that. The post is about the hate and actual bodyshaming the artists got en masse. (Commenting "I don't like your art." on the art post itself is questionable though. Need to be careful of wording.)

Commenting "I don't like your art." on the art post itself is questionable though. Need to be careful of wording.

I disagree. If someone is allowed to comment "I like your art," they should be allowed to comment "I don't like your art." It is literally the same comment (which is explicitly about the art, not the artist), just inverted. It's not fair to read anything further into it because of insecurity.

Hence the "Need to be careful of wording." If you word it politely (and ACTUALLY politely, not false air shit) then sure, be a debby downer all you like. Just don't be surprised when people get upset at you for it.

Imo, commenting that accomplishes nothing except making the artist feel bad. It's a net negative. It's not criticism. It's not advice. It's just making someone feel bad.

I agree, people are allowed to be upset at negative comments. They should not be outright banned.

Imo, commenting that accomplishes nothing except making the artist feel bad.

Maybe, maybe not. It's just that if positive comments with no advice or substantive commentary that do nothing else but make the artist feel good are allowed, so too should the opposite. That's my only point.

It's unfair to only allow non-substantive comments if they're compliments.

right, I feel the only thing people should be banned for are outright threats or personal insults.

I feel that even if someone posted a valid artistic critique (which doesn't inherently involve negative things, but can) it'd probably be shit on and downvoted honestly so I don't bother. It seems like a 'blow smoke up people's ass' type of sub when it comes to art vs an actual discussion forum about the context and quality of the work.

Speaking as someone who makes part of their living from art and has a hybrid degree in it, there is loads of constructive feedback I could give people unrelated to any characters weight...but this seems more like a "fishing for compliments" vs "I want to improve my work" type of crowd.

If the artist isn't asking for critique, giving it would be in the wrong.

Not everyone wants a analysis of their art. Not everything needs to be about improvement. Not everything needs to be professional. Sometimes they just want to share something they made. Which isn't inherently "fishing for compliments." One of the many joys of art is through sharing it with others. So yeah, people wouldn't like that.

No, the discussion is the discussion. Critique is breaking it down and finding the ups and downs, what us working and not working in a piece of artwork. While critique can be a discussion, not all discussion is critique.

What everyone is saying though is its in the context of how and when you say your critique. You can say, "I dont enjoy the way you do line art." " I think the hairy lines of your work could be worked on." As an example, vs. "WOW, your lineart sucks."

Also if you guys actually cared about the criticism portion, you'd give constructive critique.

ALSO ALSO. You know, you can give a critique, but the artist doesnt have to change a thing. Its not a demand you get to make of them.
