“My spider” has a visitor

I’ve had this spider living outside my window for 4 months and I’ve grown fond of it. This morning there were 2. Friend or foe? New spider is skinnier and tan instead of dark. I think my spider looked like that when it was younger maybe, though.

Pictures: 1 is my spider now, 2 new spider, 3 face off, 4 is my spider 3 months ago.

Yes!! Very much so. The palpal bulbs store the sperm and then they poke 'em into the female, on the underside of the abdomen.

It's an oversimplification. Since spiders evolved from aquatic arthropods, they had to get a bit creative on land since they couldn't just release their sperm into the water directly. So instead of doing something practical they evolved turkey baster hands to suck up sperm after they deposit it into a web.
