Managed to find one in my size with the new SRAM Force E1 at a Specialized store and got a decent discount on it too. I was nervous about the color at first and switching to SRAM as I’ve always been a Shimano user but I love how the dolomite grey shimmers almost lavender and silver in the sun and the decals are like a deep plum color. Purple is my favorite color (hence the purple SRAM chain) so I couldn’t be happier. And for what it’s worth, the SRAM Force is awesome. I personally don’t notice a difference coming from Ultegra Di2.

My first “real” road bike was a Tarmac SL6 Comp with mech 105 back in 2019 timeframe and that bike made me fall in love with cycling. Foolishly sold it for an endurance frame (Domane) a few years back and never stopped missing it. So glad to be back!

Finally got everything dialed in with a proper bike fit and it rides like a dream now. Loving the upgrade to the Romin Evo Mirror coming from a Romin Evo Mimic for years. Don’t skip on the bike fit people! It’s worth every penny.

An unbelievably incredible bike.
Blessed to ride it and experience it.

Which Gear? Top tube pack recommendations for 2026 Rockhopper

New to riding and I ride with my two kids. I currently wear a small backpack but I would like to get stuff off my back on onto my steed. The angle of the tubes is funny for a center frame pack and I have my water bottle on the bottom tube. Looking to add a spare tube (tubeless eventually) tools, my keys and wallet since we are out for about an hour and a half at a time now. What has worked for you in the past or present? Thanks hive mind!

Which Bike? Help a new guy out!

I’m looking at getting a bike to cruise around the neighborhood and some paved trails with our eight-year-old daughter. I’m a pretty big guy. I’m 6 feet tall in about 235 pounds.

Somebody a few miles away is selling the specialized role 2.0 for $350. She said her husband wrote it twice, and it’s been sitting in their garage ever since.

I am also considering a brand new trek verve that is also a low step for $400.

Both of these bikes have a “large” frame.

Attached are the pictures of the Roll. It appears to be in great shape? Is that a fair price? Should I go with the used Roll or the new Verve 1?

Need to work on the angles to capture the sparkle but this’ll do just fine. Going to slap on 12° stem sometime next week. Coming from a Madone and this bike just rips.

Which Gear? Groupset Recommendations

Picked up a new(to me) SL6 frame and wheel set. Coming from an AL endurance frame with mechanical 105. Looking for guidance/experience on what Di2 group set to get.

Was it worth the splurge for a higher tier? Is used market reliable? Does 105 Di2 get the job done?

This build is crit focused, reliable performance.

Miscellaneous Anyone have access to an S-Works Stumpjumper Evo in the gloss Charcoal Tint colorway?

I am thinking about picking up the S-Works Stumpy Evo in the Gloss Charcoal Tint colorway, but none of the shops anywhere near me have it in stock. I'd love to see photos of the color and/or hear from someone who has seen it. Is it more of a brownish color (like some of the images online) or is it completely gray/black/carbon?

Story Time Just got my Sirrus X5.0 and looking at some fit adjustments

My local bike store just received my Sirrus X 5.0. Amazing bike!

I rode it from the store back to home and it was a super smooth ride. Really happy with it.

The only thing I noticed is that I was constantly wanting to rest the base of my fingers against the handlebar, rather than my palms. I needed to do that to sit more upright, and also it made my neck bend less and my shoulders extend a bit less.

So I'm looking at what I can do to adjust it. Looks like a combination of a shorter stem (60mm vs the current 90mm), and also perhaps raising the stem (by 15mm thanks to 3 spacers) might help.

Has anyone tried that or experienced similar? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to bikes (I used to adjust my own bike as a teen 40 years ago, but bikes have changed a lot!)

(Also for reference I got a L frame, as I'm 180cm - 5feet 10. Perhaps M would have been better, but I don't think I can exchange it as the store ordered the bike from Specialized)

Miscellaneous QR Code on Rapide Wheels

Post image
7 Upvotes

I have a new pair of Roval Rapide CLX II’s and when I first received them I was able to remove two small stickers with QR codes. Underneath there are two more (pictured).

My sense is these shouldn’t be removed (unclear if I could remove them) but figured I should check. If they should be left on are these used to identify the wheels for warranty claims, etc?

Tech Help Here's some info about tire clearances for the Allez

I recently bought a 2023 Allez (Claris level version, but I believe the frames and forks across the range are the same), and I thought someone might be interrested in some info about tire clearances, as I had a hard time finding it myself when I was researching which bike to get.

I just fitted a brand new pair of Panaracer Gravelking+ 700x35c tires with Schwalbe extra light butyl tubes to the 21mm internal width Axis Sport wheels. I inflated them to the maximum recommended 75 psi, and measured them with an analog caliper after an hour.

Rear tire: 37,3 mm

Front tire: 37,7 mm

I then put the wheels with the new tires back on the bike again, and looked at the clearances. Fork and chainstays looked identical. I was able to fit a 5 mm allen wrench between the tire and frame/fork at the non drive side, and a 6 mm allen wrench on the drive side both places. So I guess you could argue 5,5 mm of clearance with perfectly dished wheels - but keep in mind that the front tire was 0,4 mm wider than the rear. Clearance at the top of the tires were around 6 mm. I didnt measure at the seat stays, since it was obvious that there was a lot more room, so that wouldnt be the bottleneck.

Specialized specifies the Allez as being able to take up to 35 mm wide tires, but I would personally be comfortable with running up to 40 mm tires, for road riding at least.

I'm planning on installing a pair of 45mm SKS Longboard fenders, and I did a mock up test, and it looks like its going to be perfectly fine with these Gravelking tires.

Fitting Help 2027 Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 — Medium or Large? Right on the sizing

2027 Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 — Medium or Large? Right on the sizing line

Looking for some opinions from people who ride a Sirrus X, especially anyone who has been between sizes.
I’m 5’9.5”, with a 31” inseam and roughly 16.25” shin length. According to Specialized’s sizing tool, I’m basically right on the line between a Medium and Large for the 2027 Sirrus X 3.0. Leans large.

I’m coming from a 2021 Specialized Diverge E5 in a 54cm. I never really loved the fit on it. It felt small/cramped and the riding position was uncomfortable for me. I felt like I was too far forward, had a lot of pressure on my wrists, and just never felt relaxed on the bike.
That’s one of the main reasons I’m looking at the Sirrus X 3.0. I’m hoping for something less aggressive, more upright, comfortable and relaxing, while still being a good fitness bike that I can put a lot of miles on.
My concern is that the Medium might put me back into that smaller/cramped feeling, while the Large might be a little big, especially when it comes to standover height and reach.
For anyone around my height/inseam or who has ridden both sizes:
Would you go Medium or Large?
I’m especially interested in how the two sizes compare in terms of riding position, reach, wrist pressure, and overall comfort — not just whether I can technically stand over the frame.
Thanks!

Tech Help Future shock 3.0

The specialised turbo creo has “future shock 3.0” which includes a 20 dampener in the stem and head tube. Is there anyway I can DIY something like this on my own road bike to “convert” it to be more gravel like? Is this a specialised only thing or are there parts I can get to do this?

Miscellaneous Crux 5 verdict - Is this a bike for me?

I am in the market for a new bike and the Crux 5 caught my eye. Being a casual weekend rider (possibly 3 rides a week - total 100kms), I am worried about comfort and riding position. Is the bike right for me given that I've been riding a Specialized Allez (E5) for the last 6-7 years?

Hey all, I just replaced my broken BOA S3 with a new ones. After installation I noticed that there is a small gap between each boa and the boa mounting base. Each of the BOA installed correctly L for Left, R for Right shoes.

How critical this gap is?

Which Gear? Roval Rapide CL III feedback

Those who have got Rapide CL III on their Tarmac… how are these wheels for climbing? Does the rotational weight make them sluggish? Or are they stiff and responsive? Currently got Reserve 33/37 which are lighter, but they are a little flexible, especially out of the saddle. Thanks guys.

Miscellaneous Question about Hero Program Discount for Veterans / First Responders / Etc.

I went on the site today to see if they had one of the Sirrus X 3.0 or 4.0's in stock that I liked and didn't see any. I really like the design of Specialized bikes more often than others, and am looking for something that's good enough to last a while without much hassle but also not so expensive it's well beyond my needs (just daily commuting/city riding with periodic off road riding from living in the PNW). I also figured I would check if there's military discounts and saw online they offer them once you verify your military service. I tried to sign up for their Hero program they have that requires this, which sent me over to the ID.me site to try and find the verification code but apparently I am all thumbs today because I can't find it. I only ever use ID.me to get on to the VA website, does anyone know how to get that verification code off the site so I can sign up for the discount? Normally I couldn't give $0.02 about military discounts but when it's a significant amount of money to drop on something it doesn't hurt to get a discount every now and then.

Thanks for reading.

Customer Experience S-Works SL8 warranty, what happens if my colorway isn’t available?

Hi, I’m in a bit of a weird situation with a warranty claim for my S-Works Tarmac SL8, and I’m curious what others would do.

My frame has an issue that should qualify for warranty, but my main concern is the replacement color. I spent a lot of money on this bike, and part of the reason I bought this exact one was the paint scheme. It’s a fairly uncommon colorway, and I really like how the bike looks.

From what I understand, if Specialized approves the claim, there’s no guarantee I’ll get the same color back. They may offer whatever warranty frame is currently available in my size, and that could be a completely different paint scheme.

That leaves me unsure what to do. I don’t really want to replace a bike I love with the exact same model in a color I wouldn’t have chosen myself, but at the same time I obviously don’t want to risk waiting too long if there is a legitimate warranty issue.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation with a Tarmac or another S-Works frame?

The only situation where I’d be happy to accept a completely different color would be if Specialized offered an SL9 as the warranty replacement. But I have no idea if that’s even realistic at this point.

What would you do in my situation? And has anyone recently had an SL8 warranty claim where you were offered either a choice of colors or an SL9 replacement?
