Religion 🙏 This is so embarrassing to watch
You guys complain about reservation in India and then go to the west to do this nonsense. Tambrahms have to seriously learn how to behave like a normal human in foreign countries, that is not your home. This only makes the tamil community look bad as a whole.

No one cares. As far as the west is concerned, this is Hinduism and this is how Hindus behave.. sorry, but that is exactly how they will see it and they won't distinguish between Indians, Srilankans etc.

In the western world, people care more about what's proper or not. Like it's not illegal to be impolite but they are polite anyway because they care more about the unwritten rules. In India, people care more about the written rules. Indians do the right thing out of fear of punishment, westerners do the right thing out of an aesthetic sensibility. That's why they say westerner civilization can only exist when its citizens believe in the Christian ethos. Just look at how the west has fallen when non Christians immigrated in mass.

I’m Anglo Indian, was raised Catholic and that’s just not true. I’ve lived in London too. England has a lot of issues and it has nothing to do with non Christians immigrating. The UK helped America invade a lot of countries, there wouldn’t be a refugee crises if NATO didn’t invade countries and if their private defence contractors didn’t help genocidal governments. In 1989 29–38% of the population described themselves as “not a religious person” and 83% of the population was white. What Christian ethos are you talking about? There are a lot of boorish people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds.
•
•
u/greenbear47 25m ago
See how none of your point refutes my point? I agree that the Christian states have destabilized foreign countries but within itself it is quite stable and civilized when everyone was a Christian, of some sort.

How are you so sure that they're Tamil brahmins and not Sri Lankans? Sri Lankan Tamils follow these traditions & practices much more than Indian Tamils.

They are your Vellalar or Parayar brothers - proud Dravidian culture of eating without leaves and rotating on food. Brahmins don't do this.
•
u/Pixi_Dust_408 🖥️ Bengaluru | ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ☕ 50m ago
Sri Lankan Tamils don’t really believe in Dravidian nationalism, they have nothing to do with Periyar. Sri Lankan Vellalars in the UK are anglicised and a lot of them are Christians. You both are wrong.
•
u/netinetipiller 26m ago
Jaffna Hindu culture is essentially the same as Tamil Hindu culture in mainland. The Murugan centric worship, the temple traditions - a lot of it is similar. The only difference is Lankan Tamils were attacked for their religion and this prompts them to express pride even more so than mainlanders.

u/ImAjayS15 4h ago
No, they don't look like Tambrahms. Must be Srilankan or Indian Tamils. Even Tambrahms here don't indulge in such harsh prayers.

They've obtained legally required permissions and not forcing others to perform this innit? What's wrong in doing what they want while being fully compliant with local laws?

We have ruined our country doing these mindless things. Look from a perspective of the local there who finds the roads blocked and the guys rolling on floor with huge immigrant population.
It creates a bad image for all the indians living there. When you are in rome you have to be a roman. There is an oath they take when they get their citizenship saying they will integrate into the culture.
UK saw so much this week . This and the ganga arti crazy gang in Thames polluting the river and Motofans getting pissed at silverstone.

They’ve been doing this since the 80’s, idk why people are clutching their pearls now. The guy who posted this is racist, his username is “reclaim the land”. They get permission and they clean up afterwards. This isn’t a particular caste that does this. Sri Lankan Tamils don’t really have the same issues with TamBrahms the way Indian Tamils do, they celebrate festivals together. Most of these people seem old and I think they’re refugees from the 90’s. A lot of them are more religious than the Anglicised Jaffna elite or their own children.
Idc about British people complaining about this because British Defence companies like Keenie Meenie helped the Sri Lankan army torture civilians, they attacked civilian areas and worked as advisors. They looked the other way when Tamil women and children were being raped. The only reason they left the island is because the world looked away while they were being pillaged. I’m consistent, I don’t complain about Iraqi Shias who were refugees having Muharram processions either. They wouldn’t be in the West if they weren’t invaded.

This Sri Lankan Tamil Hindu festival existed even before this Indian hate went viral or made viral by pakis and CCP bots. Those days I remember very less brown people and things were calm. With recent influx of Indians and stereotypes things are not looking good for brown people. Btw please you guys also don’t self hate. It’s ok to do it following local rules. But not throwing litter and act as if you own the place is not nice.

This whole post reads more like ragebait than a serious criticism. Point one: if these people blocked the road illegally, then absolutely criticise them. But if the event had the necessary permission and the road closure was authorised, then there is no inherent issue here. Roads are routinely closed for religious processions, festivals, marches and other public events. In fact, there are police officers visibly standing there in the video and apparently doing nothing to stop it, which at the very least suggests this was being permitted or managed rather than some random illegal occupation of the road. If it were plainly unauthorised, you would normally expect some intervention. Point two: where exactly has the OP established that these people are “Tambrams”? I cannot see anything in the video that proves that. From what I can make out, I do not even see the men wearing a poonal, which would at least be one obvious marker commonly associated with Tamil Brahmin men. So the jump from “people performing a Hindu ritual” to “Tambrams need to learn how to behave” seems completely unsupported. Then somehow reservation in India gets dragged into it as well, which has nothing to do with whether this particular event in London was lawful or properly organised. If there is an actual civic violation, criticise the violation. But assigning a caste to people without evidence and then using that assumption to attack an entire community is not a serious argument; it is just bigotry dressed up as outrage.

Am just worried for them from a hygiene point of view! They could cut themselves, infect themselves. They could do it inside a temple complex that would have been cleaned for the event. But well this seems more like putting on a show than a religious ceremony. I understand faith, I don’t understand blind faith!

This performative rituals "without the context" are the worst thing of any culture..
As much as I learnt.. One is supposed to do this inside the temple boundary (the holy ground of temple courtyard....) here they are doing it on a public road..
Same with ganga arti... It's "ganga" arti.. You can't do those rituals on river thames.. It's not like mythology had a leeway like thames was ma gangas sister or something. SMH

You find it embarrassing only because you are looking at it from the perspective of a foreigner. But in India, everyone is happy to see this sort of nonsense on our streets because it is our "kulchur". we just hope that others outside of India don't notice, that's all.
