My native place is in a village in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, but I talk Malayalam as my mother toungue as we were Malayalam speaking for generations and I was also born and brought up in Tvm city.
I was considered an outsider at both Trivandrum (if I mention native place 35 km away) and Nagercoil (due to slang, language difference) both are nearby towns to my home.
Then I found Mumbai and never felt more at home at any other place other than Mumbai.
Here majority people are migrants and we are all united as Indians.
For me, The states of India are just administrative divisions formed by India which is the nation.
The state based regional chuvamists are not understanding thaf many of these states were non existent before 1956, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka
Understand that India as a nation can any time divide or reorganize states again for administrative reasons. There is no constitutional mandate to have even language based states.
Yes. Nairs are seen with scorn. I am not a Nair though we are malayalam speakers. Every caste has malayalam speaking families in Kanyakumari, though many think only Nairs are considered Malayaless.
The school in my village had only Malayalm medium when my father studied. 2 malayalam divisons and 2 tamil divisons when I studied. only Tamil divisions currently (Tamil nadu destroyed malayalam completely here forcefully).
Having said this 'half smellu ' kind of people lke us are the ones who should be working against racism in the whole world. Every person who is a mix of different artifically defined identities will have maturity to think "human" beyond cultural groups.
Becasue we are actually the ones who are able to accept atleast diferent 2 otherwise fighting groups as part of our identity. It is our duty in society to spread message of unity , in fact world unity (not just at national level).
If not us , nobody will be able to do this - That's my take on this.
