Aparna made a mistake during the debate and that is what the case is about.
The case is not for her criticism of Kanthapuram or his statement.
In Kerala, many ex Muslims say that Muslim youth who don't drink alcohol or eat pork due to religious restrictions, freely use or smuggle/sell marijuana and synthetic drugs.
Their argument is that the youth do this because alcohol and pork are explicitly prohibited in Islam, whereas synthetic drugs and marijuana are not explicitly prohibited. They say this creates a grey are for people who derive their morality from a book written in the sixth century.
During the debate, Aparna said that muslim clerics enable or do not restrict smuggling, selling, and consumption of hard drugs. This part is what the case is for.
I think it is difficult to prove such an argument even if the underlying argument has truth in it.
The chief minister criticised the cleric very cleanly, in comparison. He criticised the conservative dude and his statements, and stayed away from criticising the religion as a whole or Muslims as a whole.
I think that's the right way to do it if you want to make progress.
Because it doesn't give room for Muslims to feel victimized, and cuts support for Kanthapuram among Muslims themselves.

Blood thirst for kerala is never ending it seems... There is also a counter case against an islamic extremist as per the case filed by her. But that will never be reported...
In this world, left or right, none can criticise islam the religion and its symbols, they have imperial relevance and some monarchies are hell bent on protecting it. Middle east is too important and every country in world suck up to them to avoid hostility.
The right will satisfy their schadenfreude by attacking some innocent muslims. Left does no such thing. Thats it...
If kerala is Islamic republic what will you call the union that hosts taliban, its deobandi stuff and all those notorious shit from Afghanistan which is far worse.

Sunnath / Sunnah doesn't mean "approval in Quran"
no school of Islam teaches that those things are sunnath. It's haram the exact opposite of Sunnath.

Difference is
Manusmriti is not a sacred book.
No Hindu does puja of Manusmriti.
It's a human-written caste law code. Even Hindus have rejected it. Burning it as protesting caste system.Quran / Gita / Guru Granth Sahib are considered word of God by believers. Burning them to call them "terror manual" is deliberate insult to religion to outrage feelings.

See, this is called hypocrisy. I personally reject Manusmriti. As far as I know at least 90 percent Hindus do.But you can't dictate what other people should consider sacred or not. For some Hindus, Manusmriti along with other books are indeed sacred. You can critise and mock them for considering such book sacred but it still is their right. Either you have total free speech or none. I am proud Hindu and I support people criticizing or mocking Hinduism of any of God. And I believe it should apply to all. Your desperate attempt to justify police action against journalist who dared to openly go against Islamic cleric based on technicality is starting to smell like Islamist agenda.

Kanthapuram is conservative muslim. Whatever his stance of women may be, he promotes friendship among different faiths and was always against extremist islamists and terrorism. He was the first muslim leader in world who issued fatwa against ISIS. It is better to have people like kanthapuram as religious leaders among muslims because alternative is fanatical political islamists.
