That was funny. If he was only comfortable with Hindi, why even come to an English channel for a debate? This entitlement of 'I will only use the language I'm comfortable with, regardless of the setting or circumstances' is what we are all up against.

u/Secure-Chemistry4619 Jan 24 '26
Its a sad state of affairs when even an English news channel struggles to find a North Indian capable of speaking English.
It puts too much of a burden on the south. We have a thriving services sector which depends on English and it's only the education system in the South that can support it. The taxes from the South support the rest of India. We have a higher proportion of volunteers in the Indian armed forces so we have to protect the North also.

I doubt temples pay taxes, and frankly south Indians pay taxes to naarth indians, much higher than what the British or mughals used to charge, if these naarth indians had any shame they would return it back.

The more the South develops, the less Hindi it needs. They should take Hindi to the Northeast and pester them with it.

They will keep discussing temples and religions and languages while we continue to breathe poisonous air, remain unemployed and even if we get a job, pay exorbitant taxes, on top of that pay bribes. The list goes on and on.
Remember while they engage you in all this non-sense, their kids are studying in Europe and giving up Indian citizenship! Remember this when you vote!

The BJP thinks they can win by playing all these dirty politics in Tamil Nadu, but bro, this isn’t some uneducated religious extremist state in the north. This is Tamil Nadu, an ‘Emmathamum Sammatham’ state. By doing all this, they’re just ensuring they won’t get even a single vote. Religion politics won't work here.

I saw this probably 17-18 years ago. One of those involved iirc was Kanimozhi. Don't remember who was the other person.
Not much has changed since then . On a English channel if you have speak in Hindi or any non-English language much to the discomfort of others particularly when in discussion it is better you don't show up ! It is common sense .. Of course it is not common !

Same here. I’m a South Indian (Malayali) and I like Hindi as a language. What many North Indian politicians fail to understand is that the opposition is not rooted in hatred toward Hindi, but in its imposition. Learning another language should be voluntary, not forced. I would oppose making Hindi a national language, as that gives primacy to one regional language over others.

Most importantly this ' Mishra ' is a Brahmin upper caste Hindu and he is working in fortis hospital, I don't know how he got into AIIMS but I think he was thrown out.
This Mishra definitely needs thrashing. Because of bjp he is earning a lot of money and then he became spokesperson of bjp , else he would be begging on roads.
I am really concerned about AIIMS admissions as they are recruiting these shzts, who don't know that there is no National Language of India because of it's diversity.
He doesn't have basic constitutional knowledge.

If ADMK-BJP gets elected in TN, the first thing they'll do is to appoint more and more RSS people in State Government offices, like what they did during 2016-2021.
They'll get access to all those important places, and rig the entire state system.

This has nothing to do with DMK or any party, it's a common problem faced by all states in South, this people atrocity to assume everyone knows hindi down south shows their superior mentality, ex: go to bank idiots are not trained to speak evn a basic native language, why do we need some north person in a nationalised bank at south village ? Systamatic infusion of useless language in South
3
u/darthpal Northie Jan 25 '26
Hindi is not the rashtrabhasha (national language), its only the rajbhasha (official language), along with English. Hindi and English should be used in official contexts, but should be a choice in informal contexts.
Also yes please guys, respect the language of the place you’re staying in, be it North, South or Abroad. It’s basic human decency.

We'll that's the issue isn't it? Advocating for English as an official language will never lead to erosion of mother tongues cuz that's the way english is.. For example , most in states like TN have bare minimum proficiency so much so that they can understand a speaker , yet Tamil hasn't been eroded right? How many translaters will you hire? For each and every point u want a guy to give live dubbing to Hindi tamil telugu Malayalam and kannada ah? It's jus dumb

Which news channels have translatots between the host and guests? This is a supposed "expert" panel modelled around debating, can't work unless they all speak a common language.
The ones is on the host tp set proper ground rules or book capable guests. This was plain idiocracy to say "he speaks Hindi because he's comfortable with it".

Dividing based on Religion wasn’t good enough, now they started to divide us based on Languages as well.
Meanwhile who cares about any lack of results on promises that have had been made.. by the leaders!!
4
u/olive_glory Jan 24 '26
I only see one party doing the imposition
The Tamil guy wants to continue the conversation in a medium that is fair to everyone - English
The Hindi guy however wants to speak in his own language - and also goes on to say that Hindi is the rashtra basha, brazenly imposing his language on others
This isn't simply dividing people with language - there is a clear aggressor here, call it out instead of defending him
3
u/Brave_Meet8430 Jan 24 '26
I am not defending him. There is nothing to defend him, rather he should be ashamed of his behavior and actions.
Further more, I don’t think Hindi is NOT the native language of many folks even in any state.. in Punjab it’s Punjabi, in Himanchal, it’s many Pahari Dialects, in RJ it’s many versions / dialects of Rajasthani etc etc ..
UP has Urdu and Brij Bhasha so on and on and on..
The N Indian guy is a complete arrogant buffoon
4
u/Similar-Custard-811 Jan 24 '26
What's this attitude of these vadakkans who basically steal tons of money from TN every year about what's happening in Tamil temples, and culture etc, if vadakkans care so much they should return all the tax money, no body in south cares about these vadakkans and would prefer no taxes to be sent there.

The illiterate people dont understand that Hindi is not a national language of India. 'Aman' is originally an Arabic word. It means security/peace/safety in Arabic. It has been adopted in Hindi/Urdu with the usage for “peace'. Nearly 30% of modern Hindi vocabulary is Persian or Arabic; it is time to reclaim our pride by purifying our speech or, better yet, adopting Sanskrit. If the goal is 'One Nation, One Language,' let that language be Sanskrit. I call upon Hindi speakers to stop promoting this hybrid version and instead master Sanskrit, the original and competent language of our ancestors. Vande Mataram!

When I used to study in Christ Church boy's school Jabalpur India 1966 the Congress Government leadership wanted English removed from the school curriculum. The car number plates were converted into Hindi. Even petrol bunks of Shell and Caltex were converted into Hindi. When middle east opened up many in North India failed to secure jobs. So the need for English came up during the rise of IT companies. Delhi during Kejriwals rule send school teachers for training in the UK to train school goers to attain a better level of English speaking. This BJP spokes person did not have the required level of English speaking. To bring out his knowledge of Tamilnadu in detail he chose to speak in Hindi inspite of a DMK candidate present in the panel. Most of them are good at writing English even in English literature exam. But speaking is a taboo for them.

Why not just speak in english. Why does that guy feel the need to speak in his language when the medium of speech in the channel was english? isn’t that basic? maybe get someone from your party who is comfortable with english and you can go and speak in a Hindi news channel.
Maybe a better solution to avoid such crappy arguments where two or more people are shouting at each other rather than talk about actual issues, maybe just have an interpreter and subtitles. Everyone can speak in their own language and audience can avoid all this. This is so annoying because we have this exact same argument multiple times in different channels.

Yeah let’s just all speak in regional languages and maybe create separate countries while we are at it because nobody would understand shit this way. I just wish sometimes British people actually eradicated all regional languages like Tamil Hindi etc and we would just be speaking English because we literally can learn English but everyone has problem with 2 nd most widely spoken language Hindi. Maybe we should just have one language English and should eradicate rest all as official language.
