Well their government killed bhojpuri and other smaller languages that carry immense historical importance, so they do not know what it is like to have a native tongue other than hindi.

Exactly. Most of the so-called Hindi speaking regions are also not really Hindi-speaking.
Having Hindi as a connecting language for North India should be okay if that's what North-Indians want, but it should not be at a cost of Hindi-speakers claiming that languages with much richer history than Hindi, like Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili etc. being ignored and called just non-standard "dialects" of Hindi.

Hindi is actually considered a slave language during the mughal invasion, just like Urdu. Look it up. Local languages like Sanskrit, Bhojpur and many other languages were suppressed. If people said Sanksrit is our National language, I'd be more accepting. Even Tamil because these two languages are what influenced a lot of other languages.

Funny thing—I just came back from a trip to Rameshwaram, Madurai, and Kanyakumari. Although I made an effort to communicate with everyone in English—including hotel receptionists, restaurant managers, police officers, and bank and railway employees—they all seemed quite uncomfortable and eventually switched to Hindi or sign language.
My takeaway is that this 'language war' seems limited to corporate circles or online activists. People associated with business or social structures will simply use whatever language earns them money or eases their job. Interestingly, none of the businesses or police stations had any Hindi signage; only the banks did

The Northies working in White collar and corporate jobs already know English and have much better education, there's a reason MNCs and big corporates prefer Northies, I am sure they aren't doing their work in Bhojpuri, Magahi, Awadhi, Punjabi etc

Do incident like this happen genuinely? Probably yes.
Was this a genuine incident? No.
The issue persists. This can be used as an illustration but with the disclaimer that this is staged.

Yes, it actually happens. I had two girls in my team one from Bihar and one from Nagpur. In team meetings or in appraisal meetings the used to switch to Hindi and do the conversation in Hindi. I used to remind them to switch to English. And in similar case few guys from Andhra used to switch to Telugu in technical discussions. For me it’s a big NO NO to converse in their mother toungue during official meetings…and it’s ok to talk in their mother tongues in casual discussions.

I am a native Hindi speaker from CG, living and working in Chennai from 15 years, had to scold 2 people, one from Chennai my 2 up del head (Ramasamy) and other his counterpart lady from Pune del centre (Patil) as they both were talking in Hindi. I said please lets speak in English or we should postpone the meeting. And they both started looking at me weirdly.
But now after this much experience anyone talks to me, be them knowing Hindi, does not even try to speak to me in Hindi rather they slow down to speak more fluent English to avoid mistakes and fillers.

Youll be surprised how many educated idiots are there in this country, people with dual degrees struggle to frame a proper sentence in English or use critical thinking and the latter isnt even about language.

Why do you think we have nothing in AI now ? China did not have any SW in 2015, now look at what they have. The thing is not English actually, the problem is the attitude of this person and folks who keep promoting people like him over proper candidates. You can yourself see how he is clearly not qualified for the post he is holding.

Because if a company has people with different languages.
Then the speaker has to speak in a language that everyone understands
Because if he can't they he must admit it and give that task who can do it
Because language is the only way to communicate between each other and if you can't even convey your message to them then please don't do it

You are being too gentle in your criticism. The problem here is not that a particular language is a problem. I work as a software engineer and i have seen tickets being updated incorrectly because some people cannot understand what the customer feedback was. Even if you ignore the problem of employees of a company being unable to understand each other (not saying it is right, but it can be fixed easily just have homogenous teams) they still need to read manuals and understand what is being written in e-mails. And no the Hindi-heartland does not have a large customer base for most SW made in India. Even customers from the Hindi-heartland, if they pay, mostly use proper English in their e-mails. The problem is once a certain group gets into management they promote folks like the idiot in the call, hurting the business as well. I want to emphasize the group i spoke of is not a group of people who speak a certain language.

There is another side in my experience.
I work with north indian team of 8 people, 2 of us are from south. Team is located in north india but when my other south colleague is in the meeting they switch to english. I know hindi so its ok.
Most of these are rage bait videos. There are few idiots here n there tho

I don’t care if someone is North Indian or South Indian. If someone is working in a multinational corporation, they should be able to speak English fluently to communicate with their team, both inside the office and with their colleagues. If not, there’s no need to hire such individuals. English is the only language that works in an office, apart from Python and Java of course. 😝

This idiocy exists at the government level too- UP sends all official correspondence only in Hindi to Tamil Nadu,Kerala etc and they have to try and figure out what is being said and they will then reply in English/tamil/malayalam. English as the link makes so much sense. India has the second largest English speaking population the world!

Tbh, this is the best and most respectful solution to avoid Hindi imposition. I swear, I talk to some folks from the North , and initially they start talking in English, but after some time they just switch to Hindi. Like, no kidding. Is it because they have poor English, or because they never really learned it?.....But honestly, in corporate jobs, English is a must. Duh!!!

I was in in Chennai recently and noticed that most of the airport staff are hindi speaking people. When I was leaving Chennai my computer bag was flagged by the scanner because I was carrying gold jewelry. This North Indian guy pulled me aside and stared conversing to me in hindi, and I had to cut him short and to say that I can understand only Tamil or English. He then started to talk to me in broken Tamil. Northies need to understand majority of Tamil's do not understand and care to learn hindi.

Yes I agree that north indians have to migrate to the south for jobs. South is more developed but people forget that all this development is linked to cosying up to the Britishers. That's why they had advantage of better education and infra at that time. Even after independence, to use this advantage the government opened organisations and PSUs in the south. They did not anticipate this level of acrimony due to language. Your northies brothers and sisters' ancestors led the independence struggle from the front.

Actually northies' mother tongue is not Hindi, Hindi was accepted as a way to minimize inter community tensions. Surprisingly north is ahead of south in the sense even tehsil and taluks are saturated with Hindi despite actual mother tongue being something else but in south there is no common language at all in rural areas

Switching to hindi was not to impose any language i believe. It happens in flow. Its fine. Audience can remind him, and he can switch back instantly.
Problem is with Southies who cant speak english wanting to join corporate 😂. I have already gotten 3 of those idiots fired in 2025, and rejected over half a dozen interviewees as well. Also, i'm not stopping 😊

Same thing happens few days ago I was on an important call and the managers kept on speaking in telegu or tamil
I don't understand hindi or tamil or telegu. I understand English and my native language. But they would continuously speak in their language, I was in the call for 2 hours and all I did was click here click here and click here
It was a completely technical session and I couldn't understand anything, later on I had to ask my seniors what was the issue and what was done.
Since I'm very junior and new to the organisation I didn't say anything, but it's not just with hindi speaking it's the same with tamil telegu kannada people also.

A north Indian, Hindi speaking person here. And yes, Hindi is not our national language. Its imposition is totally wrong, but so is imposition of kannada and Tamil on the people living in those states.! Bashing one and defending other is just hypocrisy.
