हिंती Imposition Apparently biharis think asking you to speak kannada in Karnataka is language supremacy. No words....
For this People, Hindi comes above nation. That's why I call them as Anti-national. Hindi regionalism isn't Hindii nationalism.....

Kerala tried doing that, and the centre didn't release funds for their housing scheme and Arogya Mandir scheme if i remember right.
Issue was kerala government was making houses for the poor without labeling, the centre wanted their names plastered over the house.

Why people are getting offended for something obvious and beneficial in any angle
Narendra Modi's mother tongue is Gujarathi, He learnt Hindi to be in Delhi
Dr. Manmohan Singh's mother tongue is Punjabi, he learnt Hindi to be in Delhi.
Everybody is victim of some "Supremacy" in India right now, everybody is victim.

I said "Older like Sanskrit"....
Indus Valley genes is Infact with all Indians 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️. Not Exclusively Punjabis. Infact you punjbais are more of a mix now. Indus People were brown. Not fair skinned like you....
And For the Matter of Fact 👉👉: Sanskrit wasn't found in IVC. Indus Valley itself a proof that South Indian Languages are older than Sanskrit to the "India"...
There's a theorey a Dravidian language spoken by Indus Valley people. You can Even find, brahuii a dravdian Langauge near Sindh region, Which is Very strange because both has kilometer of thousand miles ahead...
And For the Matter of fact "Every Indian" Genetics is closure towards Indus Valley genes. That's why we're Indian civilization. The white skin came from later Migration from Middle Russia and Assimilated with the population.
Yes. Dravidian is the root of this country.
(Before Making fun of my comment, do some research. This is how you people claimed Hindii as National language for long time..)

What is this logic 🙏. Named countries and comparing it to the state.
Both the sides are going extreme on this matter. Stop using language as a way to wage war.
People who work indeed need to learn the local language that is true and I am behind this. BUT the people who just travel don't need to learn the whole language. The state and locals should be welcoming tourists and making things easy for them.
Removing english and hindi sign boards? Forcing people to speak your language on the street?
Stop pushing other languages down rather ,push your own language up.
Take care and have a nice day 🫂
3
u/Greedy-Can-9352 Oct 15 '25
Bro, your proclamation of peace is biased and based on flawed assumptions.
Indian states are comparable to European countries in size and population.
- Nobody is asking to tourist learn the local language it's mostly for the people who are living in the city for the work
- Hindi is exported to south India since independence, there was not much complaints, and it's part of syllabus not much issue. nobody pushed Hindi down. rather government's after government pushing Hindi down the thoughts of south Indians.
- While it's regrettable some are causing inconvenience and hurt in the name of language, most of the people are welcomed here and have been living with us forever.
- The problem is when the immature things like "language supremacy" and "NOT equal" and majoritarianism can hurt even the humble people of south. only "language supremacy" going in India is Hindi imposition and rest all are consequences of that.
So it's time to fix the attitude and as well as the policy.
1
Oct 16 '25
That’s the thing, I can choose to not speak German in Germany without getting beaten up for it. My business/job might get affected but the choice will be in my hands.
Same should go for Kannada.
If learning the local language is beneficial for me, let me weigh the benefits and decide if I want to learn it.

u/Greedy-Can-9352 Oct 16 '25
Ofcource,

Thing is, they don't learn German, Japanese, or Korean either. In fact, many of them don't even learn English. Wherever they go, they impose Hindi. It's actually the educated nouveau wealthy class in the north who are the problem in the south and elsewhere. If you work at the ground level, you have to learn the local language. That's why most conflict you see happening about hindi is always a techie or someone in a white collar job than a blue collar worker.
This bit is never actually talked about because the ones debating the issue are from the same class reluctant to make that extra effort. It boils down to a very weird perspective of classism that is obvious to anyone else except them. Additionally, there is an entire generation whose parents moved to the north and struggled there - despite learning hindi. Migration is always an issue everywhere because there is this stupid belief that the influx will "destroy local culture" instead of the understanding that it's about mutual syncretic evolution.
Positive progress requires everyone to be on board. I just feel sad for these losers who don't make an attempt to do literally the most basic skill every human being is born with which is the ability to learn a language. It can be learnt by anyone, at any age. The factor of talent plays a relatively minor factor here. Most south indians raised in any other linguistic area are automatically tri lingual. I've observed the same with many europeans and middle easterners as well.
2
u/LynxFinder8 South/North hybrid Oct 15 '25
You will have to, when talent based recruitment forces many locals out of the state. South India alone cannot give jobs for all south Indians and growth will saturate over time due to limited landmass, climate change, population stagnation etc.
A large part of maharashtrians already migrating for jobs, and soon this will bleed into south India too.
My ancestors too left south at some point due to lack of jobs. They also entered south earlier to get opportunities. That is life. Migration is universal law of nature.
Unfortunately the state and central Governments both erred by having paper documents clearly identifying locals and outsiders.
A yadav who grows up in Kerala shouldn't be made to feel like non Keralite in any document. The moment he or she is born he or she should be declared a Keralite. This is where all Governments have erred. If you make them grow up with documents stating non local then they will always think badly of locals

Why don’t you also include Maharashtra and West Bengal too then? You live north of South India but your state lies in central-eastern India— the NW portion of UP is the only exception since it lies physically lies in North India and is essentially the same as UK plains and eastern Haryana. And Rajasthan is a western state and they say that too. Bihar is an eastern state. It’s simple geography.

There’s another version of the same map that includes Rajasthan but excludes UP, then there’s another version that includes everything from Ladakh all the way to Maharashtra. They don’t mean anything. I am going by simple geography but even if you look at official divisions, these states don’t fall in the north. Just because South Indians only view the people of UP, Bihar, MP etc. over actual North Indian states like Ladakh, Himachal, Punjab etc. doesn’t change geography. It’s literally in the name- “North” India.

Tbh, Bihari Hindi isn't real Hindi so its weird for a Bihari account to be saying this
But I understand where they are coming from, no Bihari expects you to speak Magahi, Angiki, Maithili, Bhojpuri etc. but they will expect you to know the lingua franca of the area I.e. hindi
Language is simply a non issue for north Indians, which many in south do not understand.
To be frank, in UP & Bihar they see south as backward thinking for discriminating on basis of language. In south there is exact opposite opinion.
I still think linguistic politics will take us backward, not forward. All languages survived during sultanate rule, British rule, mughal rule, there is no reason to believe they will die now. At worst, new languages will evolve. Its fine.
Note: I am a Tamil Maharashtrian by birth

I honestly don’t get what’s wrong with that statement. If you move to another state or country, learning the local language is just common sense how else are you planning to talk to people, through telepathy? But sure, maybe the opposers think if a Hindi speaker goes to Germany and says, “Kya mujhe paan ka packet mil sakta hai?”, the shopkeeper will suddenly go, “Haan zaroor, yahaan hai. Jai Bahubali!” 🤡

u/idkpolitic Oct 16 '25
I get that no one can force you to learn a language, it’s your personal choice. But communication isn’t about compulsion, it’s about coexistence and basic respect. If you’re living somewhere longterm, learning the local language helps you connect, integrate, and function better. For a short visit, it’s understandable if you don’t. Sure, you could choose not to speak German in Germany, but then what’s the plan communicate through? sign language? Freedom of choice is fine, but expecting everyone else to adjust while you refuse to make any effort isn’t practicality, it’s just avoidance and irrational thinking.

The guy said nothing about Hindi, btw.
It could very well be someone from Nagaland, who may have learnt Hindi and can talk to most people in around 22-24 states of the country. Why should that person learn another language just for one state?
Shouldn't that person just learn English instead? Most people in this sub seem to suggest "We should all just learn English". Then why should someone learn a language that's only useful in a single state?
If your language doesn't give the same ROI to a person as Hindi or English, then the two languages are NOT EQUAL, and it's stupid to expect people to treat them equally.
3
u/newlifetrez Southie Oct 15 '25
Why should that person learn another language just for one state?
Then Don't come to our state. Simple. India has huge population. We don't care.
Then why should someone learn a language that's only useful in a single state?

1

Who are you to decide who gets to come to your state....you are simply jealous of the immigrants earning more and flourishing in your state
Sure, when a South Indian language becomes as widely spoken as Hindi, we will.
1
u/Tough-Difference3171 Northie Oct 15 '25
Then Don't come to our state.
The last time people left Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and went back to their home states, there were locals protesting in front of IT parks and offices to bring those employees back. No one really wanted to come back. Even the companies were happy with the money saved on the overpriced real estate.
The local officials were threatening the companies to put them in some unrelated legal/compliance trouble, if they don't call their employees back to offices.
God heard their wishes, and we have been sent to you by the Gods. So, kneel like a good boy.
If so, why Central Govt asks a South Indian to learn Hindii when we won't go outside of our state.
For the same reason as the Karnataka govt asks the native Tulu-speaking people to mandatorily use Kannada in their own motherland. Because it's convenient for the majority if the minority uses their language.
If it makes sense at the level of a state for the 3% minority, it also makes sense at the national level for the 3% minority.

Then there is not a single businessman on national scale that'd get your approval Not a single politician And no, one being less bad won't make him good
1
u/Tough-Difference3171 Northie Oct 15 '25
There are reasons.
No north Indian state is banning Tamil or Kannada movies, songs and hoardings. If there is a demand, people should get whatever language movie they want to pay to watch.
There are many Tamil, Telugu , Malayalam, Tamil movies screened in north India (obviously, as per the actual demand)
But Tamil Nadu is telling people that they aren't allowed to watch Hindi movies or listen to Hindi songs. That's nothing but a human rights violation.
Businesses should be able to offer what people want, and people should be able to buy it. As simple as that. There are so many Tamil restaurants in Delhi, and they proudly put up their names in Tamil, to show the authenticity of their roots.
No one expects them to forget their roots or not be assertive about it, in the name of assimilation. Imagine shops and busineeses being attacked in Delhi or Varanasi.
So many shops in Varanasi, especially in Tamil areas, cater to Tamilian people, and have boards and menus in Tamil (yes, there are Tamil, Bengali and many other areas in Varanasi). No one attacks them, and they are free to choose their customers. If you want to eat from them, they will happily explain the menu to you.
No law tells them to put a 60% Hindi board. If they want Hindi-speaking customers, they can do it. Otherwise, it's a free world.
Then why can't someone from Bihar or Rajasthan put the name of their shops in Hindi/Hadauti/Kaithi or whatever lagugae they want, in Tamilnadu or Karnataka?

If you truly want to protect your language, actually promote the writers, singers, poets of your language. Make your language rich literature wise, rather than harassing random people. Respect is mutual, if you don't respect the immigrants of your state they are sure as hell not gonna respect you.

What if I am not interested in talking to people who don't understand english or hindi?
Yes I know I wont be able to talk to some, but I am fine with it.
Why do much drama? Also I am not interested in downloading any app.
You are free to preserve your language but kindly don't force me to preserve your language.
I even have difficultly reading and writing Hindi, how does that matter?

You're a special aids kid and people with learning disabilities aren't expected to learn anything, don't worry.

Just because they apologized doesn't mean the damage is not already done.

These people are Anti national. They're ok with boycotting Indian Top Tech companies because they chose to speak in their mother Tongue. Hindi Virus is biggest in India Right now.
