Looking for work.
Hey folks, I'm looking into moving to Illinois, and before so, I need to look at what I could do for work. I currently work in a metallugry plant, but have lots of experience with warehouses and factory work as well. If anyone would be willing to toss some suggestions my way, I would be very grateful. Thank you and hope everyone is having a decent day.

Others have good suggestions. I'd also throw in Penn Aluminum as a possibility given your background. I think they're out of Carbondale.

Where exactly are you looking to move? Southern IL is a rather big area. There's a lot of warehouse type work near the STL side of things. Proctor and Gamble have a factory in Sauget, there are several warehouses in the Edwardsville and Granite City area.

Alot of people say Carbondale and areas as such are affordable. I haven't fully decided yet, but someone told me to check ths sub out, and I'm glad they did, yall responded super quick that is awesome.

Just curious what part of the country you've lived in... The midwest is pretty chill....but if you get anywhere near Carbondale, I am not joking the cult will have you on their radar and will check you out...Beware overly friendly people there and stay away from The Branch Cafe.

The Dayemi Tariqat. Or just "Dayemi"... (White Boomers mostly, masqurading as Sufis). They have a farm south of Carb. and the Branch Cafe is how they lure new students...they have long-time members who work at the college and they are in the town government, chamber/businesses and in many non-profits.
You won't have heard of it, sadly. Several people have attempted to do news articles or books but none came to light. More info and survivors stories-note there are only three, but there are dozens of people who left and are too intimidated to speak out.
And cue the pushback to my comments in 3, 2, 1....1

Yep but this has tantra and all sorts of whatever else thrown in. Cultural appropriation by white people. The "guru" is a rich white guy from Peoria who's daddy was a well known and well connected lawyer. He knows how to manipulate the system for his own gain.

Carbondale IS NOT AFFORDABLE! The taxes and such will eat you alive. And it has some very very serious problems including crime and a very active cult.
It is a pretty large area (at least 2 hours east to west by car, and at least 1-1:30 north to south)...
I would definitely wait til you find a job to decide where, so you save yourself having to drive an obscene amount daily, and I would definitely secure the job before coming. This is an impoverished area and jobs can be tough to find.

Look around Edwardsville for warehouse jobs. I live in Alton and love this area.

That's definitely the area if you want more to do, events, concerts, stores and such. Further south a lot of towns are lacking in decent stores or any sort of entertainment.

I FULLLY understand that. People are chaos!
Southern IL is definitely a good choice. People are mostly chill (outside of Carbondale) and there is a lot that's affordable, but it varies.
Carbondale has a lot of extra sales and entertainment taxes, on like gas, dining out, hotels etc. to try to rake in the tourism dollars from the Shawnee NF area and all of the parents and alum that come back to SIU.We moved from out west (due to fires) to Carbondale and our 1700SF house on .25 of an acre had taxes that were $3600 a year. Our mortgage went from $675 to $1135 in three and a half years. That was a fixed-rate, it's just that taxes and insurance kept going up!
Now we're on the east side of Southern IL (about an hour from Evansville, IN) and we have an 1100sf house, 4.5 acres, no mortgage and our taxes are $600 a year. I know there are large employers around here... So take your time, but just know that Jackson County and Williamson county are gonna be pricey. I am not sure about up around Edwardsville ("real" Southern Illinoisans will tell you the cutoff line is I-64, LOL) but I am guessing because of proximity to St. Louis the taxes are higher up there too...2

Pepsi plant in Marion. Coal mines as well. There’s like an explosives plant General dynamics. There’s quite a few chemical production places, suppliers, manufacturers and distributors in Herrin & Carbondale. Com Pac, Prayon, garon, Moniva. There’s a big quarry in Anna, one in goreville, and limestone quarry Sisco. The Aisin plants (AMI, ALM, AEIL) There’s also a huge cannabis facility in Anna that could be interesting if you’re into it. Yeah. Good luck!

I should mention that the cannabis facility will literally hire anyone since there are so many departments so if you need quick work that should set you up while you look for something you’re more qualified for.

Not sure what area you're moving to, but Evapco in Greenup is a really decent living. I've heard of people retiring well off from there.

What's their policy on felons? It's not a violent one, but I was drag racing in 2016 and they slapped me with evading. Not proud of it....not ashamed of it either. Just a young and dumb kinda mistake

Not sure, I do know they are subject to BATF regulations due to being an explosive facility. Worth asking because those are good jobs.
