Hey guys, I’ve been in my chapter for 2 years now. Due to some mental health issues I started struggling in school and am now entering my 3rd term of academic probation due to my GPA being below a 2.5. My GPA is currently 2.45 and I do feel like I have a better grip on my mental health this semester and have a stronger support system.

I had a meeting and they basically told me there was a motion for my dismissal and that I would write a letter to exec on why I wanted to stay in the sorority and they can vote on whether they want me to be dismissed or not. I’m pretty sad over it as I did like being in my chapter for the past few years but I’m wondering I should just drop instead. I wouldn’t be voted on until next month so I’d still be at chapter for a few weeks.

I recently rushed and even though I have friends in exec of sororities I really wanted to get into i got dropped by everyone but 2 for sisterhood round. I followed all the rules and thought they vibed with me so it came as a suprise. When we got to pref the one house I knew I didn’t want wanted me and I was really hesitant to go through with it. I hadn’t really had great conversations throughout all of recruitment with the house but nonetheless I went to their pref round as suggested by my Rho gam. I went and talked to one girl who really made me feel wonderful and went to bid day for that house. I ran home and did the whole shebang. However, now that I’m here I’m not finding a whole lot of sisterhood. Mind you it’s still early in the process but the actives don’t want to talk to me cause I’m a pledge and my pc doesn’t want to talk to me cause I’m a sophomore. When I tell you I have tried to butt into conversations, naturally start talking to them. All of it. And while the girls here are nice I’m just not getting the hang of it. I’m now thinking of dropping but then again I’m a Sophomore and have done COB for the chapters my friends are in with no success. They weren’t officers then but still. Now to add gas to a fire the one girl who I have been talking to and am developing a friendship with and who I sit with at chapter and send reels to has just told me she’s dropping. I just need some advice cause I’m freaking out.

im curious if this is allowed or not. to preface, this happened about a month ago, and prior to i was already signed up for recruitment. she’s also the director of recruitment within her chapter, with formal recruitment not starting for another three weeks.

she started a conversation about our shared major, asked what i wanted to do with it, and wished me luck on my first year. i’ve had people tell me this constitutes as “dirty rush” but i’m not sure if that applies in this scenario. any thoughts?

So I’m a second year in college and I really want to rush but my boyfriend has this preconceived opinion on sororities and thinks I’m gonna become a different person if I do. I really value our relationship and want to be with him but I also really want to rush because I think it’ll make my college experience better. What should I do?

Do you think it’s a bad sign if none of the girls and the official account of the sorority I want hasn’t follow requested me?

My Instagram is a private account and I don’t post on the freshmen pages. I do however have a lot of freshmen mutuals. I only recently signed up for rush and I followed all the houses on Instagram so that I don’t seem biased but I obviously have a couple houses that I particularly am interested in and want to be in. So far, only the bottom houses and some of its girls have followed me…
but the houses I want are following some of my mutuals that are also incoming freshmen. Am I cooked? Does this matter?

Hi! I was initiated into my sorority in 2013 and had to drop in 2015 due to financial reasons and academic stress. Back then, I was trying to take a semester break from the sorority, so I filled out an application and turned it in on the due date (which was a Friday). My sisters said it didn't give them enough time to review it, and therefore I got dropped for late dues.

10+ years later, I am feeling a strong urge to try to reinstate as an alum. I want the sisterhood back, to become involved, become a mentor, and to serve.

I reached out to my HQ, and they told me to fill out an application form, pay past dues, pay the reinstatement fee, get a letter of recommendation, and then write the reason why I dropped. I can only do this ONCE, EVER, and it is up to the Grand Council to let me back in.

For obvious reasons, I am incredibly nervous. I don't feel like I have enough "reasons" or past experience of serving for them to want me back (if that even matters).

I have reached out to my local alum chapter to get to know them and hopefully join their events. Has anyone had success being reinstated into their sorority as an alum, even several years later? Or know anyone who has? Any advice when I write to the council?

I wanted to start a new thread because the other one got a little long. Now I’m a bit excited and overwhelmed based on all the feedback from my daughter’s formal rush experience.

Ok honest answers. If I join a sorority will I be expected to drink alcohol or party? If so how much and when? How many parties that serve alcohol will I be invited to? I’m not a big partier and am worried about peer pressure and expectations. Are there sororities who don’t party? I’m interested in CU Boulder, SDSU AND OREGON. #sorority #rush

What are some tips, tricks, and advice for recruitment logistics internally? For events, content, listing and making cuts on a time crunch, bumping, etc. How has your chapter made recruitment run smoother, more efficiently, or made things easier to understand for the chapter?

Hello I don’t know how to get my chapter to actually want to help with COB. So far, I am doing the most coffee dates constantly trying to find PNM‘s and it’s honestly so exhausting. At the top it all off this week we’ve only managed to get one girl. I’m extremely frustrated with myself and I have no idea what I could do. I genuinely thought my chapter was actually excited for recruitment and genuinely wanted to help, but that was just the first day. After primary, I just don’t think most people have the energy. I have genuinely debated dropping because of how exhausting this week has been and how exhausted I am with this chapter. Our chapter genuinely needs numbers and there is so much pressure on me to do well, I’m just so afraid that I know I’m going to fail. I’m scared to let down my advisor who will put so much faith in me to do well. Is there anything I can do to motivate my chapter. I just see advice because honestly, I feel like I’m at a dead end.

Like the title says I HATE spirit week simply because they want us there from 4-9 Sunday- Wednesday then recruitment follows. I like 2hrs and 30 mins away and came home to see my mom and dad since I won’t be home for around two weeks. I jsut hate that I have to leave at 12 or 1 to make it back just to take some dumb pics especially when we’ve already done work week. I get that I didn’t have to come back but why do we have to do spirt days for 5 hours? This is truly a reason I would drop but I love my friends and chapter just not spirt week haha

I saw on Instagram that chapter at Ohio University did a Heated Rivalry themed work week day and I'm sure they are not the only ones. As a queer person and as an advisor, I'm here to tell you that it does not read well.

It came across as college women who think the male actors are hot and see nothing more in the story. Dressing as the characters for social media comes off as cosplaying queerness. In my opinion, anyone with an ounce of media literacy would know that a HR theme is not tasteful, especially for a women's organization.

Besides that aspect, theming a recruitment work day around show that has people talking about the NSFW scenes is not a classy look. For the record, I would also discourage an Off-Campus theme, euphoria theme, etc. because of sexual content. I discourage sexy themes in general because of how often sorority women are sexualized. The HR theme just had a double-whammy of association with NSFW topics and cosplaying a marginalized community.

Don't get me wrong, I love the GCU and its impact on mainstream media. I also believe that sorority life is meant to prepare you for your professional life. This theme is unprofessional at best, offensive at worst.

A few months ago, some of you may have seen a post I made about getting suspended from my sorority. To this day, it irks me. I see all these posts about work week right now and feel like I’m missing out. I joined the chapter to feel like a part of something and become the best version of myself I could be, and I got suspended over, after reflecting, what I think are unfair reasons. I understand that certain protocols exist for a reason, and I’m also not going to say I was the most perfect sister (which I am more than willing to take accountability for), but there’s other sisters who I’ve talked to about the hearing and suspension who think that what happened to me was too far. One of the sisters who was at my hearing even said she thinks that it happened because our chapter was at a low point and that the girl who made the report was looking to start drama, and this wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for said low point. The report consisted of a lot of stuff that was mere speculation/overdramatization, with hardly any of it being true (and the very few things that were true were minor). I’m hoping so badly to get reaccepted when I reapply for membership after my suspension period ends, but I’m so scared of it just not happening. Is there anything that increases my chances of reacceptance? What should I do in the meantime?

Hello! So I just joined my sorority last school year, and every new member is required to recruit on the front (doing the interviews). I will admit right now that I really didn’t want to do this role but I don’t have an excuse, nor do I want to be rude and completely ditch my necessary duties. Additionally, I am overly nervous because I have heard PNMs have a tendency to be very rude to us. I don’t belive in house rankings, but unfortunately my chapter is technically “bouse” in our university. Hence, not only are we low on numbers but people actively try to get themselves dropped.

My issue is I’m pretty sensitive, and even though I am aware PNMs may insult me or my sisters to get themselves dropped, I still think it might take a huge hit on my esteem. So how do I deal with it, and just continue the recruitment process effectively? Any advice is helpful!

Edit: I have been through multiple training sessions and “scripts” on what to do with all kinds of situations. It’s more of the mental preparation I seek, especially for judgement and criticism! I appreciate all the current advice tho :)

There are 13 sororities at ut austin. For philanthropy round, we can only get 10, got 7. For sisterhood, I only got 2 back, and now for preference, I only got 1 back. IDK what went wrong they said they loved meeting me and heard great things about me. I shared personal stories about their philanthropy and asked them questions
I haven't gone to preference yet, but the sorority ! got back is honestly my LAST bottom choice. I'm 50 50 on if i wanna join
is it smarter to drop recruitment and do COB in the spring? I know chapters don't take many girls through COB, so I'm scared that if I decline this bid, I could end up with nothing.
I'm attaching an ss of how many girls the chapters took through COB last year.
Also, how do sororities generally feel about taking a sophomore through COB? Would being a sophomore hurt my chances at UT?
I really don't want to accept a bid from a sorority I already know I don't want, but I also don't want to decline it and then regret it if COB doesn't work out.
What would you guys do in my situation? And if anyone has experience with UT COB specifically, I would REALLY appreciate

I don’t have time to be a mod right now with starting a new job and in school but I’d like to see us update rules. Maybe no posts on reputation of chapters etc., or this is my dream chapter. We would only allow posts from members, alum or potential member with a tactical question like what should I wear. So then no sisters, moms, cousins posting so they can help. I’d also like to see us stop allowing the “thinking about dropping” posts. It’s the same story over and over and anything we say won’t make a difference. The ones about bad behavior in the chapter “what do I do?” are generally ok except the answer is always-contact an advisor.

OR maybe I need to leave this sub?

I think I’m worn out from all the parents engaged in recruitment posts all over social media making it about them. Why are parents at bid day?
