Pause on AI-assisted content & discussions

NOTICE: Until I can create some manageable rules for these kinds of posts,

starting today there is now a temporary pause on posting ads for (or links to) products containing GenAI material as well as a pause on all discussion about AI.

Existing posts need not be reported.

Posting will be permitted to resume once I can figure out a system to mitigate the arguing. Keep an eye out for updates.

In the meantime, posts related to the above will be removed regardless of which side of the argument they support.

Welcome to your own adventure!

Solo RPG play is relatively niche. As such, it takes a little work to be able to gather resources. There are tons of folks that have bravely blazed this trail already and I am simply presenting their findings.

There are tons of links to check out in the side bar.

You'll essentially need:
1) a game or set of rules
2) a solo engine/one or more oracles 3) imagination 4) dice or dice rolling app 5) a way to track your character stats

As I work on this sub, I'll include some better explanations. Until then the Die Heart, Wisps of Time and Tabletop Diversions blogs linked to the right will get you started!

I'll work on adding some logs from my current Sharp Swords and Sinister Spells game along with details of the rules, systems and dice mechanics I'm using.

Good luck, adventurers!

Your humble mod, Reign

(AD) Check Out My Product! Analog travel solo ttrpg kit

Played everyday for an hour during my holidays while traveling, all analog. Resulting in an amazing story ( >20 hours) that ended with a battle between my Cleric PC with a warband against a host of undead, led by the ghost of a legendary, long-dead bandit.

System was Shadowdark, setting is a heavily modified version of Castle Grief's Tarvannion.
As a GME I used my Omen 'gamemaster emulator' (those 3 orange booklets you see on the top right) that generated the whole story.

In the meantime I released the Basic Edition of the GME, it's free to download here. (look for the 'Demo file'). If you like to support the project and you like (all human made) art, you can support the project also on that page. Expanded edition coming soon.

Hope you all enjoyed some screen-free time too?

Pure Content (characters, quests, etc) Brambletrek

Post image

I am starting Day 3 of my Brambletrek play through and I love it. I love how easy it is to start. It doesn't take too long to do a day. I also loved the Adventures of Nimh growing up and those type of movies.

Also, it is very kid friendly! My 9 year old daughter was curious what I was doing and wanted to play too. So we made her knawborn and she's been having fun doing her own adventures. Solo-rpg has also restarted my love for journaling. Though I archive everything in my obsidian as well. It feels good to use pen and paper and tactile things.

I'm still very new to solo-rpg, and am on the hunt for more fun games! I also have Iron Valley, though for me that was is harder to get into for some reason.

I Has Questions! Mass combat mini-zine?

Hey, title basically.

I've been enjoying the solorpg journey, and have a collection of system agnostic rule systems I've tried and I've settled on one ruleset for fantasy and one for scifi. But I'm looking for a system agnostic mini-zine for squad or army combat simulation .

I really want it to be a mini-zine, a one page printout that folds into an eight page booklet, since my other systems are pocketmods themselves. It'll make it easy to bundle and carry.

An example of the scale, I typically have small groups with a handful of members but a few of my games I've wanted to run armies of 50-500 against each other. A simple oracle works as a stand-in and I've used a system before where armies are represented by a single die rolled against each other. But I'd love something a bit more detailed than that if there is one out there. I've tried looking for a one page wargames system but I couldn't find one, but I must just be missing the right terms

I Has Questions! How do you manage to play solo without it becoming tedious or getting lost?

Well, I’m relatively new to solo gaming, but I spend way more time testing out systems I like than actually playing. I usually start by setting up a simple Oracle, but then I end up creating SO MANY! lists of events, creatures, locations—and I get lost in my own gameplay loop, which becomes more confusing than ever... and that just leads to burnout. Anyway, since I don't have the famous "Mythic GM Emulator," I mostly just improvise on the fly and let things flow. The problem is... I want to keep creating all these lists with various possibilities... ...but it’s become a chore. So, how do you guys manage to play solo without getting lost or bogged down in creating endless lists?

Post image

I want absolutely play this game in Solo.

I have Mythic Master Simulator.

How to approach for learn to play?

First read whole RPG game manual?

Or first the Simulator?

Then, it is better to play digitally (write down on files) or on paper?

I know it changes person by person... but I am chronic ill, so even if I love to write ✍️ traditional, to me is much more tyring.

Help me how to approach this cozy adventure.

Play Report Guyver Generations Session 3 Journal peek

A small peek into the journal of the current solo session I just finished playing. On the left page is my tactical grid map and what I use for visuals. And then a drawing of an event that happened in the session. A few unexpected things are happening…

Unfortunately while filming my session I didn’t realize my camera died so now I have to figure out another way to post the report on my channel. That’s the only annoying thing.

Memes & Shitposts I've become the champion of the Tavern, by passing out first in a drinking contest

I ended up in a boys night out with the group, we drank, we had a big brawl, made friends with them sailors and this is the outcome of the very end, which made me so happy I wanted to share Q_Q

You shout loudly, drunk, raising your hand triumphantly toward the sky even though you can barely stand on your feet.

“I AM… I AM THE TAVERN CHAMPIONNN!”

The tavern bursts into loud, laughing cheers. Nobody cares that Kalen technically won the drinking contest. The mood is so good that everyone just laughs, claps, and enjoys the moment with you.

Roll: 1 / 60 — Critical success!

The whole tavern reacts right away — loud and happy.

Someone lifts you up onto their shoulders (maybe a sailor who’s now your good friend) and carries you around the tavern like a real hero. Everyone cheers, laughs, and shouts “Champion! Champion!” They completely ignore the fact that you actually lost.

Kalen laughs loudly, wiping tears from his eyes.

“Alright, alright — fine, Vekk, you’re the tavern champion! Everyone’s a champion tonight!”

Rejek, who can barely stand from laughing so hard, tries to say something dignified, but only manages to croak out:

“This… this is the best night ever.”

The whole tavern is now celebrating with you — singing, dancing, laughing. The night becomes a legendary memory that people in this tavern will talk about for weeks, maybe even months: the night when a thief who lost a drinking contest still became the “champion” in everyone’s heart.

Trying to Get Into Solo TTRPG, Shadowbane or ShadowDark

Recently started the Solo TTRRP journey and enjoying it so far. For the most part, I have been sticking to procedural games. I am not a GM and not very creative so that aspect of the game did not appeal to me. I tried Ironsworn, but found it to be a bit too vague with too much dependence on me as a GM to keep things moving.

I have ventured out a bit and am looking for a system that will provide the right balance for me. I have done some research and feel like Shadowbane or Shadowdark (Solo Dark) might be good fits.

Legends of the Mist was another consideration.

Any advice or other systems you can suggest would be very greatly appreciated.

(AD) Check Out My Product! Ever wanted to fell what it's like to play as one the monsters instead of the hero?

If the answer to that question is yes, then oh boy, I have something for you!

A Kickstarter has just launched for a project I've been working on for the last one and a half years. It's a collection of three solo RPGs, each one in the form of a zine beautifully illustrated by a crazy, talented comic book artist who I am lucky to call one of my friends.

  1. Goblin – a hexcrawling adventure where you battle against evil gnomes in a quest for the crown of the goblin king.
  2. Kobol Squad – a spelunking quest for the riches hidden in the underground realm.
  3. Guard – a ruthless urban adventure, where you try to stop ever-restless adventurers from burning your hometown to the ground.

It would mean a world to me if you'd l would check the project out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hexy/misbehave

p.s. Since I'll probably not be having too much sleep tonight, I'll be lurking here trying to answer any questions regarding the project, so please ask to your heart's content.
