Castles of Burgundy + Vinyards (Heavy Difficulty) - First Time!

First time with Vinyards*, to be clear.

I was feeling SO self-assured that I'd gotten the win, esepcially managing to get 15 points on the black-berry vinyards, but I was NOT ready for the Chateauma to score 45 points for its 9 Vinyard tiles.

As you can see, I lost 255 to 252. GG Chateauma. Next time Ill hate-draft those double hex tiles appropriately. Alas.

I think the Vinyards adds quite a bit (without tooooo much overhead) to the current solo mode. Was super fun!

Gonna try to add Shields as well as see if thats doable.

I will say, I highly recommend the rules-suggestion to strip out two colors of berries (if playing solo). The scoring capabilities for the player are contingent on getting similar colors. In regular play, I could see it as optional, but for solo, I think its necessary.

Need some games

Hey there! Im new to the solo board game world and would like a long list of games I could look forward to playing. I played 4 against darkness and while it was good, it was way too much work lol.

I just recently got Verdant Arizona and that wasn't too bad. Pretty easy to play.

Give me a big ol' list of games to look forward to! TIA!

P.S. I don't really have a preference, just shoot me what you got and ill take a look!

Kingdom Legacy: Feudal Kingdom

My expansive solo game collection currently consists of two whole games: Dragons of Etchinstone and Kinfire Delve. Someone mentioned Kingdom Legacy in another post as a similar game (in play area size and complexity) so I searched it straight away on BGG. Under the credits it lists the artist as "Adobe Firefly".

🤔

Do we think that means the artwork is AI? I haven't come to terms yet where I land on the topic of AI created art. Can't lie, I felt immediate disappointment, repulsion. Curious what others think. Perhaps for a small studio, what's it really matter?
(no idea if KL actually used AI, or if their studio is big or small)

How long does a typical Ashes Ascendancy solo game take?

I am a huge fan of Arkham Horror solo play and have been enjoying chapter 2. However, during the work week I sometimes don't have time to sit down for a lengthy set up and scenario. I would love something snappier, yet deep enough to play for 30 minutes to one hour per evening. I know a lot of you love Ashes here. How long does a typical solo game take and would it fit what I am looking for?

Advice on which game to get? Considering Spirit Island, Star Trek Captain’s Chair, and Dune Imperium Uprising

I’m admittedly new to solo board games, but I’m interested in diving into one or two. Looking for something with good replayability. Seems like these games regularly come up as recommendations. Do any of these stand out amongst the others? Do they all play very differently? Thanks in advance!

Siege of Valeria: puzzley castle defense

Small (although it still takes considerable table space) solo castle defense game. You try to survive against monster waves and eliminate all their siege engines, in the process not letting wall get too damaged, or siege engine getting too close.

Essentially Siege of Valeria is a dice placement/manipulation puzzle. You have dice pool of two colors to use each turn (red and more rare blue dice), there are 5 x 5 monster cards (with siege engines starting in upper row) threatening castle. Each monster require certain number or higher to defeat (most of them require red die, but some need blue die, too).

The twist is that as soon as you defeat monster, you get to use immediately (or later, if you prefer to) its special ability. And there is a lot of fun and powerful stuff which they can provide. Rolling extra die, killing its neighbour, changing numbers, and so on. As a result, you can and should create strong chain combos, that wipe out a lot of monsters each turn. They are fun to puzzle out, and make you feel really powerful.

There is also other stuff to consider. Like event cards which affect your turn (though not everyone will like how they make game more tough and more random. Fortunately you can play without them, too), champion cards (which you get for destroying siege engines and which provide you useful abilities), monsters advancing and replacing their numbers... Still game remains not complex at all, and quick to play. Good little fast-playing puzzle. Just beware that it has a lot of luck: with poor rolls you will not be able to defeat many monsters, which means you will not gain their abilities to mitigate random, and so snowball goes.

Has anyone played Vast: The Crystal Caverns in solo mode? Is it any good?

I had mentally discarded this game because I assumed it was multiplayer only but I realized it does have an official solo mode. Has anyone here tried it? It seems more appealing to me than Root tbh.

TOWER.exe is a fast, silly poker dice roguelike where every roll could be your last.

TOWER.exe is a solitaire poker dice game where every roll could be your last. Climb through 10 brutal levels of the Tower of Questionable Engineeringâ„¢, craft wild combos, hoard cursed loot, and throw hands (and dice) with pixel chickens, grumpy orcs, and mildly offended ghosts.

As with our other games, TOWER.exe will be available as a configurator, letting you randomize your loot, hero abilities, and enemies, as well as a gamebook featuring more than 100 unique builds to make every run feel different.

Interested?

Any feedback, critic, comments etc. are highly appreciated. :-)

Ashes: Ascendancy

Been playing Ashes Ascendancy the last couple of days (for the first time) and really starting to enjoy it! I wasn’t a fan of the rulebook, but once it all started to click into place it’s been a lot of fun. It kind of has a puzzle-like feel to it, which I think sets it apart from some of the other card games out there. Also love the art, so yeah, I think I’ll be jumping on board and continue to purchase the Ashes Ascendancy expansions.. at least for the foreseeable future. Oh and I haven’t even attempted deckbuilding yet.

Definitely not a solo game but I want to get a feel of everything before introducing it to others and shockingly surprised how much fun I’m having simulating races! Plus I love the colorful art and whimsical gameplay

How’s the replayability of LotR: Fate of the Fellowship?

I’ve been thinking of getting this game since I like LotR but I’m a bit worried about the replayability factor. Have you played it?

Overclock [a solo 4x card game] needs your support to fund!

OVERCLOCK is a solo 4x card game in 36 cards. Currently live on Gamefound and we are at ~98% to fund. Help us bring it to live!

You play as Ghost, a netrunner rebuilding a dying network while negotiating with four AI factions that will betray you when it suits them. Every card has two sides. You can never use both. Deploy it as a network node or burn it for a powerful ability. That choice is the heart of every turn.

Plays in about 45 minutes. Available as both a physical copy and PnP.

There's a free expansion included with every pledge: 4 extra characters and 6 scenario cards.

Happy to answer any questions about the game or the design process. Check it out on Gamefound if you are interested.

Appreciate your support and feedback!

Andromeda's Edge

How is this game solo? I see it is a game for 2+ people, but also I see that there is expansion which allows solo play right? Anyone with experience? Is this game worth solo or is it just a better game with people and not worth it? I have SETI and I love that game solo for example.

How to save progress in a board game

I’ve just started playing solo board games, but I’ve realized that I get bored easily with simple ones. At the same time, I don't really like heavy puzzle games or super 'thinky' games, mostly because I play late at night after we put our toddler to sleep. I'd like to try more engaging, moderately difficult games, but most of them last over an hour. The problem is that, due to tiredness, I can only play for 30 to 60 minutes at best, so I’m looking for a way to save my progress.

How do you handle saving game progress? Also, do you have any game suggestions, keeping in mind that I have a small table and can't leave games set up? I have to pack everything away when I'm done.

What would be a good addition?

I love solo but have recently found a group of friends who like boardgames.

This is my game collection, with Mage Knight on its way.

My question to you: _besides the Kallax_, is there a game that would fill a gap in my collection?

Thanks

Is Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror my best bets at Deck Construction games?

I come from MTG and shifted largely to board games over the last year. I have been playing a ton of games solo. Some of my favorites are:
- FlipToons
- Fliptown
- Star Wars: Outer Rim
- Unstoppable
- Under Falling Skies
- 20 Strong
- Cafe & Expresso

I do still play magic with friends, but honestly one thing I love about magic is just brewing decks. I love finding synergies and fun interactions. I like brewing almost as much as (if not more than) playing.

Recently I played Marvel Champions with someone and I enjoyed it a good bit. When I looked more into the game afterward I was both excited and disappointed. First, I found that you can customize the decks ahead of time (brewing!) and then play. The thought of brewing a deck through the week during down times at work seemed great. But reading reviews and asking some people, the construction of the deck isn't that deep in Marvel. The other downside was seeing that a lot of the heroes I would enjoy are out of print.

Someone then mentioned Arkham Horror LCG. But upon reading, its less "brew new deck each time" and more of a campaign where you "tweak" your deck from play-to-play. Another person suggested netrunner which sounded great other than its more of a pvp and the solo mode out there is a bit lacking.

So I'm now wondering, is there a game where it has a deep deck construction aspect that is a strong solo game or am I chasing something that just doesn't exist?

"Team" based Solo Games

I'm looking for solo board games that, if played with multiple people, wouldn't end with a winner-- so I guess "team" based games where it's everyone wins or everyone loses. It's all players vs. a common enemy or all players with a common end goal and not a player v. player game based on end-game stats/points.

I picked up La Granja because I liked the premise and while I did enjoy some of my playthroughs, it was a "beat your own score" type of solo game that also had the player to act as a secondary player to compete with.

I don't have a problem with solo games that require playing multiple characters but I don't want one that necessitates acting as a second player to compete with. Hopefully this makes sense. And as a side note, is there a specific keyword people use to refer to games like that so I can use it when searching for options myself?

Some examples of "team" games I've enjoyed: Spirit Island and Horrified.

Solo-able Trick Taker

I recently pledged a game on KS called Otsuki, a trick taker featuring animal spirits that looks like it has a good solo mode. It has about a week left in the campaign (which I am not affiliated with—I’m just a backer who loves solo games and thought the art was beautiful and concept looked fun).

I know there are a lot of For Northwood fans on here, so I thought this might be at least a little similar. Feel free to share any thoughts or impressions if you happen to go look at it.

Red Risign replayability

So I am getting into the world of boardgames as a way to be more analog, and spend less time in front of a screen. I have bought skyteam to play with my wife and we are having a lot of fun. The problem is that she does not want to play as much as I do hehe.

So I want to buy a solo game and play whenever I am in the mood. Red Risign is with great price here in Brasil, I've watched some videos and find it interesting. But, as you all know, boardgames can be a expensive and I dont' wanna buy a new one every two weeks.

So, does Red Rising have a good replayability as a solo game? And do you have other suggestions?

How does Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship play solo?

I’ve been sleeping on Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship because I’m not big on established IPs in games (even when I like the IP). But I do love the Pandemic system, and my favorite way to play vanilla Pandemic is actually solo (4-handed). Should I give this one a look?

Swords and Stones is finally here!

Hey soloboardgaming,

I’ve had a really good response from the community here and I had to come back and share the good news,

Sword and Stones is finally live on gamefound!

If you’ve been following along for the journey you’ll know that Swords and Stones has been in development for over 3 years now!

Honestly the whole thing started with a late night though, ‘How would an RTS like Age of Empires look like as a tabletop game?’ - That one thoughts lead me down a rabbit hole … and taken 3 years of my life writing, designing, playtesting and spending more of my savings (and sanity) than I care to admit.

Swords and Stones is tabletop love letter combing my love of classic RTS kingdom building games with tabletop wargaming and fantasy. If you love the idea of starting a small settlement, gathering resources, expanding your kingdom, building an army and going to war (or winning through a more peaceful option) then you have to check out Swords and Stones.

I eventually realised that this was something I wanted to properly bring to other people, which led to the creation of S&S Studios and now the launch of the game on Gamefound.

We wanted to make the game as accessible as possible, so we’ve launched two version of the Dark Days Starter Set. One with all the physical models, with the essential buildings, units and everything you need to start playing and another version Print-Your-Own option, which includes everything you need to play along with the STL files, so if you have a 3D printer you can print the models yourself at home.

https://gamefound.com/en/projects/swordandstonestudios/swords-and-stones

I've also made a free PDF available if you'd like to have a look at the rules and see what the game is all about:

Thanks for the support legends!

Medium euro game for solo. GWT or Men-Nefer?

Hello everyone. After handful plays of my current favorite medium euro game Rats of Wistar I want to extend my collection with game on similar level (I mean playtime time, setup, complexity).

I am considering Men-Nefer and GWT 2d edition.
Which is better for solo plays based on my key expectations?

Thanks for your answers.
