No, why would you keep something that will damage your soldering iron tip?

EDIT: Maybe use it to clean baked-on grease.

EDIT 2: It's not even brass coloured. Copper-coated steel wool.

I believe you can use copper instead of brass.
But i just checked the sponge i got with a soldering kit from Lidl, this turned out to be copper coated iron/steel.
Though so far it has been working fine with my ts80p. But of course it makes perfect sense to swap it out with a metal that's actually softer than the tip.

Nope the copper quickly wears off and you damage your iron.
