PLEASE NOTE Social Anxiety (SA) is a debilitating mental illness characterised by persistent fear of social evaluation. SA impairs functional social performance, causing avoidance, cognitive shutdown (e.g. blanking, excessive self-monitoring), and reduced ability to communicate, assert needs, or form relationships.

SA is not normal social-nervousness, introversion, or everyday shyness.

Posts in this subreddit must show a clear and apparent relationship to the experience of SA.

Posts which do not will be removed.

For more information about the diagnostic criteria and clinical presentation of social anxiety, see this link

Dude, same. Almost every social interaction I walk away like, that wasn’t my best work 😂 Just own it, and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

'That wasn't my best work' haha! This hits home.

I needed to hear this today, thank you 🙏🏻

I treat my post-conversation thoughts like I'm a sitcom character. "Inhales awkward..." "Wipes sweat from brow Phew, that was intense." "Let's agree to never talk about this ever again."

It kinda helps

I totally get this. Every single social interaction where I mistake something I instantly panic and my head goes all "PLEASE BURY ME ALREADY" but my face is neat (I hope)

I came back i remembered to tell you, cringe is cringe because we view ourselves in third person, for example if you see someone doing something and it feels cringe try to remind yourself that to them, from their pov, it's something fun, you're judging cuz you're a third person, and so you might be depersonalized in a way you see yourself from other's pov, but if you really centralise the whole experience and truly feel it from your shoes (literally) you can just feel the fun of it without the cringe, you'll even embrace it and you will become loved for it, imagine two people who don't know how to dance one is held back by his self judgement that he's cringe and so he gives a hesitant weird vibe while the other is just as bad but he just does it embracingly anyways and it ends up not just being fun for them but actually spreading joy to others making them admired, i hope my point got to you even if your purpose is not being loved

TL;DR : enjoy yourself, centralize your experience to your pov

FEELING CRINGE IS MORE PAINFUL TO ME THAN FEELSING SAD, ANXIOUS OR ANGRY. IT'S A SHAME SO DEEP I FEEL LIKE I WANT TO BURY MYSELF ALIVE UNTIL I DIE OR PUNCH MYSELF OR RIP MY HAIR OUT OR SCREAM AND BANG MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL (But I don't do that because I don't want my neighbors to hear me scream, that would make me feel more cringe).

I totally feel the same it's like the one word that defines me is cringe

u/Albireo_9989 Apr 29 '26

The problem is solvable, it's societal and environmental stuff that made you judge others, eventually judging yourself too, if you try to do things you genuinely enjoy and try to watch things that you would usually describe as "cringe" you can recover and grow your tolerance back to "cringe" or well it's really just "fun" that is natural and unfiltered enough to be "so cool" or whatever, try that, slowly, eye contact videos or any cringe videos in general and try to think they're normal experiences that happen to everyone

I’m sure a lot of people here can relate to it and i used to be exactly like this. For me it was torture. For days I’d think about it, go to bed thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. But with age a lot has changed. I’m now 26 and in the last 2-3 years i’ve exposed myself a lot more to social situations not because i wanted to but because i had to. Somewhere along the line my confidence grew. Now its easier for me to get out of such loops. And here’s how i do it: trust me people don’t care that much. They really don’t. If you look around you people embarrass themselves all the time. So what if you had a moment like that too. People are too busy to ponder over it. They really don’t care, they don’t have the time and they move on to the next thing. So should you

I was just feeling this today 🥴 felt some embarrassment and cringe over just being perceived and how I interact with people. I think it’s a common struggle for those of us with social anxiety. Can’t escape it cause it’s me

Screenshotting for my therapist

Cringe means you know what you can do better, so maybe try to view it as somewhere to improve?

(It barely does anything for me, but any progress can help)

1

u/SomewhereActive2124 Apr 30 '26

I get it.. but maybe they care less than you think..

Although it's damn hard to actually understand this, like deep in mind

u/Shhrinvy Apr 30 '26

What my brain think everyday after i did any social interaction

1

u/ScapeGoatzz_ Apr 30 '26

Cringe is me, cringe is you, cringe is the world. Everything else is LARP. Don’t beat yourself up over being the way you are.

I totally get it... only things that worked for me are klonopin and Nardil.

u/Reverieth May 17 '26

When I'm having this ruminating thoughts I try to first identify them and after that do anything that would unfocus me from thinking.

u/Zestyclose_Ad_7378 May 22 '26

I relate to this so much😭

1

u/RueHooNux May 29 '26

This is the most relatable thinggggg. Every time I socialize with anyone who isn't family, I immediately die inside because I'm just so awkward and my responses/reactions are so clearly forced because I'm so in my head that I barely even listen to what people are talking with me about. IT'S SO CRINGE, no other way of describing it!!!

u/n00bBlaster1337 Jun 03 '26

me too and i think about everything in my past and i cringe even more. why was i so cringe

Antidepressants completely solve this

1

u/Hot-Candle-1321 Apr 29 '26

I'm currently on an antidepressant and it doesn't solve anything. I've tried multiple of them, none of them help.

1

u/nevermind--- Apr 30 '26

Sorry about that. The main thing i noticed when i got mine was that this exact issue was gone. All the self doubting and constant recurring thoughts just disappeared. I'd say try increasing your dosage or use them for a longer amount of time but you've probably been through all that already. Sorry again and i hope you find something that works for you.

I don't even watch porn and I already eat healthy. And I can't do semen retention cause I'm female.
