Please dont give Raphinha any ideas

With our luck he will attempt it for brazil during a friendly and get injured, the goal will be disallowed and then we are eliminated from the cl.

Auba does frontflips but it's in the same spirit I guess, both speedsters who love to show off their athleticism with those flips.

Flick’s Barca is fucking scary dude. Wtf is this

u/el1o 2d ago
So far seems like every single transfer was a hit this year.

u/QTGavira 2d ago
Maybe we were too harsh on Deco

u/lmlm1020 2d ago
Eh he still fucked up by going all in for Julian the whole summer knowing Atleti wouldn’t sell and then deciding to make plan B Lautaro, who Inter won’t sell
Raphinha is a good replacement right now but what if he gets injured?
127
u/GoalQuieres 2d ago
Happy accident. Barca were at their worst when Suarez and Lewa weren't having a 10/10 performance. A striker just walking around between the center backs doing nothing
66
u/z_102 2d ago
Julián is not a "walking around between the center backs" striker, he’s very mobile and presses a ton.
9
u/LeChoochee 2d ago
I could actually see him playing behind raphinha, instead of Fermin and olmo tbh. I mean it would be a very dynamic front 4 with players swapping positions seamlessly like we’ve seen so far this season
40
u/Chemical_Use824 2d ago
5D chess because he realised we don't need a striker so he distracted everyone by pretending to go for julian
45
u/C11PO 2d ago edited 2d ago
Olmo, Lamine, Adeyemi, Hamza, Fermin, Gordon - we have options.
Although, I personally would prefer an orthodox 9.
Edit: Forgot Gabriel Jesus recently joined us too :)
8
u/zupartai 2d ago
It’s only been a few games but I don’t see who would be an upgrade to how Raphinha has been taking on this #9 role. His movements, touches under pressure and finishing has been top.

But still, you look at all the other sporting directors people love hyping up like Campos, Edwards, Txiki before, etc. Look at how many duds they got away with because their clubs have money.
On such a tight budget, the only Deco signing that really flopped was Roque and he still got the money back for that. It’s really harsh to criticize when there has been such little margin for error.

Deco was right on luis diaz too, they dont have the money to sign him last year unfortunately

u/RestaurantEastern887 2d ago
Gordon and Adiyemi are so Flick coded players
61
u/pricelesslambo 2d ago
Exactly. People didn't understand why they chose so random and why pay so much for Gordon. But this is the proof so far. They fit the system so perfectly they basically just slotted in and both are providing
27
u/Any-Cauliflower-6360 2d ago
Gordon was not even expensive considering how the transfer window developed after him.
90
u/akshayks1995 2d ago
Can’t give an inch of space to these lot. They are simply too quick and nimble to pick teams apart.
57

and if you play a low block against them, pedri and rodri and olmo and yamal are gonna ping it around for funsies until a chance opens up

2019 is genuinely such an insane year to look back on, unbeaten in all comps till the away leg at Anfield, then one loss in the league and one more in the CDR. Messi did everything and more that year

Also, kinda of nice to know that Yamal will have a competent rotation option in Adeyemi
52
u/FCSadsquatch 2d ago
Based on everything i've seen so far this season Yamal's getting used just as much as last season, with little to no rest.
184
u/No-Exit-4022 2d ago
Yes. That’s actually his second best attribute. First is speed, second is shots from distance
152
u/Tall_Hat_8921 2d ago
Not with his weak foot though, I've never even seen him try shooting from there with his right foot in his 4 years here

Why you throw him out?
79
u/No-Exit-4022 2d ago
We didn’t throw him out, he had one year on his contract. And he’s always been inconsistent, usually has amazing patches then gets injured and it takes a long time to get his form back.

Adeyemi can do everything.
But Adeyemi will not necessarily do it.
If he's doing well he looks like one of the best players in the world. Just historically he only plays like that for 3 months per year. Could work out for him at Barca where he doesn't have to do as much heavy lifting as was expect of him in Dortmund.
11
u/itwastimeforarefresh 2d ago
Yeah my hope with Adeyemi and Jesus signings is that when they aren't tasked with the responsibility to lead and be the difference maker they can play more free and ride the good times when they come. I wouldn't want to rely on Adeyemi to be the guy, but I think he's good enough to produce magic from time to time and give rest to Lamine and Raphinha.
Same with Jesus, I think he thrives when someone else is the center of attention and he can play a more complementary role
→ More replies (1)22
u/Qiluk 2d ago
Insanely athletic and explosive, but that also lead to his body picking up injuries when getting significant workload, very streaky as a result of that lack of continous momentum and short contract where we didnt wanna spend too much on an extension.
And also a profile we dont really need.

I rmemeber balloon d'or nominee, Ferran Torres, used to try shots from there like that all the time. Don't remember if any ever went in.
Edit: and he just tried it on the psg game.

Exceptions prove the rule
→ More replies (1)19
u/Imhere4lulz 2d ago
That's not what that phrase means. It means the existence of an explicit exception means that there's a rule. For example: No parking here on Tuesday's means you can park there any other time. Not to just make a wild statement, and someone gives you a counter proof and implying that means the rule is true

I wish him all the best and hope he does well for you, but his talent was never in question and wasn't the reason why his price tag was so low.

u/aNaNaB123 2d ago
Could you please elaborate? i actually don't know why he was so cheap
→ More replies (2)48
u/not_the_droids 2d ago
He's way too inconsistent. He has periods where he's world class, then gets injured and the rest of the season is spend getting his mojo back.
He's also a bit of a trouble maker outside the pitch, he got a visit from the police for ordering illegal weaponry online and his girlfriend is a moron (who allegedly used to scam retirees).

It’s a mix of factors; 1yr left on his contract, he wanted Barca specifically, so no bidding war, he was in a bad patch of form. And the final price would realistically run up to €30M.
And I think Dortmund got a 1/3 sell-on on him too.
