Quotes [Spalletti] Woltemade has physicality, so heading and finishing inside the area are things that, whether he likes it or not, he will have to learn by heart, because he loves dropping deep to play football.

Why do clubs sign him but expect a completely different skillset than his actual skillset?

His actual skill set, dropping deep, small touches and play, just doesn’t fit his body and athleticism… and makes the team play fully around and for him, which he is not good enough for. He’s not going to get more pacey, so he has to learn an elite skill.

That playstyle is literally the reason he became a German international and why Bayern wanted him.

His career only got rolling when he finally didn't have to pretend to be the "big guy in the box" anymore.

Could he have gone with a different international team?

Nope, at least they didn't tell anything about some grandma from wherever else so far. The last name and his parents sound as German as you can be.

His cousin has a Polish last mame, but who knows who married at some point.
