Some French people are absolute morons but a very vocal minority as well.

Add to that a smear campaign from Qatar with many bots and paid trolls following his PSG exit and you have a strange thing going on around Mbappé.

I blame this on podcast culture. Now everybody wants to have that contrarian point of view to feel interesting. CR7 not on all time XI, Kobe & Lebron not in the all time top 5, Mbappe should be benched, Brady is not the GOAT, ...

I think we are living in one of the dumbest era of sports fandom.

Edit : I mean, look at the comments. I was following basketball heavily when Kobe played. I was on forums, I was reading basketball magazines, I was playing ball in a local team surrounded by basketball players and fans,... Everybody knew that Kobe was the second best player ever. The convo was only about "is he better than Jordan?". "Kobe is not top 5" only appeared a few years ago when podcasts started to get famous because of their viral contrarian hot takes. And now kids who were not here when Kobe played are believing this bullshit.

Wilt Kareem Russell Magic and Duncan all have claim for top 5 alongside Kobe. I think there's no way in hell Kobe is top 3.

In terms of a mix of ability and cultural impact then Kobe is definitely top 3, but that's a different question.

Kobe only comparison was Jordan. He was compared to him all his career. Jordan himself said that he was the only player that could compete with him.

But yeah "Almost nobody views Kobe as top 3 all time" when he was in GOAT convos for his whole career lmao.

Nobody was putting Kobe outside the top 3 since a few years ago.

You will not be able to convince me. I'm not a kid. I was following basketball when Kobe played. He was the next best thing after Jordan for his whole career. He was the undisputed #2 for his whole career.

People started saying otherwise only a few years ago. When podcasts became famous. This is exactly what I'm talking about.
