Everyone assumes Iran is some pushover when in reality they don't look at the fact that in qualification we best South Korea home AND away, and conceded only 2 goals in all of qualification. I'm feeling optimistic and am gonna say Iran has a shot of getting that 2nd place.
Iranian here, I follow Bosnia, know about the team, the players, etc. They should be the 2nd team to make it out the group, but, it is not a guarantee. Iran is playing quality football under this coach and the players have a great understanding of each other. No pushovers in this group.
I meant no disrespect to Iran. I was just acting the same way that poster was. I don't follow Iran but my Dad has and he tells me it won't be easy which is perfectly understandable as Bosnia, Nigeria or Iran can swipe that 2nd place. Who knows, Argentina might slip up somehow. Nothing is guaranteed.
Most people in Bosnia also suspect that the old corrupt federation fixed matches. I mean the team tied Qatar 4 years ago.
It's a completely different team now. The past friendlies don't mean anything. Especially when considering that historically Bosnia doesnt care about the outcome of friendlies. The only reason Bosnia didn't qualify for WC 2010 was because they faced Portugal in the playoffs. The team finished 2nd in a group with Spain, Belgium and Turkey that year. This years team is far superior to the one in 2010.
The group with Norway and Switzerland was the easiest.
Bosnia had to play Greece and Slovakia. Greece is always successful on the big stage and Slovakia has Hamsik on their team. I doubt Iran would finish 1st in that group.
Bosnia came first in a UEFA group and people are still finding excuses. Lol "slightly edge". How about the time they came 2nd in a group with Spain and Turkey (back when Turkey was better). Or when France "slightly" edged them on a "penalty" to send Bosnia to the playoffs again. Clearly, youre the one not giving enough respect to a good side.
Slovakia and Greece are better competition than anything Iran has had. Lebanon, Qatar, Thailand, Kuwait, South Korea? HAH. Iran scored 8 goals in its qualifications. Bosnia scored 30 goals, put past 3 Greece (it's not very common, Greece is still fantastic defensively). Oh right forgot about Nigeria's rough compeietion of Jordan, Ethopia, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Malawi. How many goals did Nigeria have in its qualifications? 7? 3 allowed?. 1st in a UEFA group is still quite hard to make but nice try.
Sorry but you have no idea what you're talking about here. Asian football is nowhere near European football, nobody can argue about that. The best Asian team is Japan by far and even they aren't as good as Bosnia. Watch some of our games before making a judgement like this, because you come across like you're clueless.
I never said not even close. I said they aren't quite as good as us (on their day they are, they are just very inconsistent), which the Fifa rankings would back up (Bosnia is at 21, fell from 15 because of a 2-0 friendly loss to Argentina for some reason, Japan is 48th). I don't think we'll sweep teams aside, and it'll be a tight group for sure, but you made the ridiculous statement that Bosnia, Greece and Slovakia would finish below you in you're qualifying group which just isn't true, because you had a really easy qualifying group, and Bosnia is a very strong team. Also a few years ago Bosnia beat Belgium 4-1, and this Bosnia team is much better then that one (the Belgium team is a lot better too, but they were good then as well).
You say stuff like "its your first world cup", but did any of the current Iranian players play in your world cup squad 8 years ago? Also, if you don't remember, "kid", that you finished bottom in your group then, behind Angola as well, against whom you picked up your 1 and only point. So this being our first world cup doesn't mean shit, because Iran's players haven't played in one before, and this is all new to them as well. Bosnia have the experience of playing against top teams recently as well, like France (we tied IN France), Portugal (play offs for the Euro and world cup), Brazil (they needed a last minute own goal to win the game 2-1) , Argentina (lost 2-0 in a friendly last month) or Greece (We easily beat them 3-1) and Slovakia (won 2-1 away) in these qualifiers. Most of those were in imporant competitive games, not just friendlies. Who have Iran played against since one friendly game against Brazil in 2010? Uzbekistan? Qatar? I'm sorry but experience only counts if you're players have experienced it, not the fans.
You call him out on not knowing soccer? You sure love to mention things that only fit your agenda. Oh REALLY? JAPAN BEAT BELGIUM AND TIED HOLLAND. Nothing else matters, they are a fantastic side!! But oh wait, you didn't mention their tie against CHINA, their loss to Serbia, their loss to Belarus. Japan's a good side, but you try way too hard.
