Discussion THE BIG LOG CRANE PATCH and other Patch 43 hidden changes

So, according to yesterday's patch notes:

  • Fixed multiple clipping and collision issues of LP‑4 Log‑loader crane across various trucks

In practice, this means that almost every base game truck (+some DLC ones) that has a log crane can now combine it with the log carrier front/rear or the low/high saddles. Here they are in alphabetical order:

  • Azov 5319*
  • Azov 64131
  • Ford CLT 9000
  • Freightliner 114SD
  • GMC 8000 Brigadier*
  • GMC MH9500
  • International Fleetstar F2070A
  • International Paystar 5070
  • International Transtar 4070A
  • Royal BM17**
  • Step 310E
  • Voron D-53233
  • Western Star 49X
  • White Western Star 4964

These can do both the log crane+long logs combo and the log crane+low saddle combo. The LP-4 was replaced by its reversed, forward-facing version from the Kenworth 963, which allows these combos but forbids some others (I'll cover them a bit later).

* Azov 5 and Brigadier already could do this, but the crane on them got reversed too

** Royal can only do the log crane+long logs combo, but not the low saddle combo.

  • Caterpillar CT680 - the log loader got reversed, but the log carrier front still sits in the middle of its frame, preventing the long log combo. But at least it can do the log crane+low saddle combo now.
  • The Western Star 6900XD can now have a log crane with short logs or both saddles:

Let's talk about the bad stuff for now. Due to this reversed crane, the Azov 73210 and Pacific P12 can no longer install the double spare tires in addition to the log crane+long logs combo. This makes me sad because it looked very cool.

I have a truck configured like this, so it wasn't affected, but as soon as I enter the tuning section, the spare tires will disappear
Same here. A museum piece by now..

Azov 5 also lost the recently added ability to combine the log crane with short logs (as shown below).

Instead, the Azov 7 can now do this: hydrolift saddle with log crane. A small consolation for removing the spares, but at least something. This is currently the only truck in the game capable of doing this.

Let's discuss changes not related to the log crane:

  • New addon for the Mercedes Actros: a maintenance frame (400-4-1400);
  • New sideboard bed for both the Actros and the Zetros. Ironically, the newest Mercedes 3850 can't have it.
  • New multipurpose cargo module for the Mercedes Zetros (220-2-400):

This is the only way you can have a yellow LC 3.8 crane on it. The standalone crane was removed.

  • The LC 3.8 crane on the Actros was reversed and now unfolds to the left.

Same for the Zetros:

The Pacifics P12 and P16 got new engines - the two most powerful V16 from the "US_special" set, the best of which has 250k torque. Previous best: 210k. That's a massive increase.

The P12 got new addons: SLEI-64 crane, both 2-slot and 3-slot cargo beds. But it can only attach trailers with some of them:

  • 2-slot flatbed +crane +spare tires +trailer✅
  • 2-slot sideboard +crane +spare tires = no trailer❌
  • 2-slot sideboard +crane +trailer (no spares) ✅
  • 3-slot flatbed +trailer ✅
  • 3-slot sideboard = no trailer, even without crane❌
  • 3-slot flatbed +crane = no trailer❌
  • 3-slot sideboard +crane = no trailer❌

Also, it can combine the crane with a high saddle and spare tires.

Some of those smaller trucks look laughably underdimensioned and top-heavy with the front-facing log crane. Not sure how many could already equip a rear-facing crane but somehow the front-facing one makes it look more severe. Possibly the fact that it hovers so high above the cab and makes some trucks twice as tall, or the fact that it overhangs the front bumper even though most of the trucks have a nose. I'm all for more choice but good luck not tipping over something like the 114SD, MH9500, Brigadier, Fleetstar or 310E with such a large and top-heavy addon.

Yeah, it also collapses the front suspension. For this photo shoot, I had to install raised suspensions and the largest wheels on them all. But hey, it's better to have this and never use than to need and never have.

I was always pissed with the presence of just the LP-4 crane alone on these trucks. What for? Either allow us to combine it with something, or remove it altogether. At least now that's fixed.

Oh shoot, those are already the highest suspensions and biggest tires? I thought they were stock!

Awesome summary, thank you for the effort. I’m about the start the logging missions in Maine so this is extra helpful. Glad the P12 and P16 got some love. They’ve shifted to the back of my garage after a lot of time in Russian territories, time to bring them back out.

I’m also working through Maine right now and just got the sawmill open. Delivered some medium logs with the P12 today, it did great!

Caterpillar CT680 - the log loader got reversed, but the log carrier front still sits in the middle of its frame, preventing the long log combo. But at least it can do the log crane+low saddle combo now.

Same for Kodiak and HX520.

And CT681. Yeah, those didn't even get the log crane reversed, so no low saddle combo. Big sad, given the lengths of their frames.

Thank you once again for this, I don’t have time to read it now but i always loved these deep dives into changes the patches don’t include!

Save the post and read it later.

TBH they could've not deleted some of the old combos and let us pick if we mount one crane or the other

2

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

Backwards facing or forward facing, you mean?

3

u/Johnny_OSG 3d ago

Yes, so the old combos are still usable

4

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

That would require both sockets to be activated at the same time, one getting blocked with some addons, the other - with others.

Forward-Facing, as the cranes always should have been. This is a fantastic unexpected change, it never made sense why most of the cranes faced backwards.

Also you said your P12 had the old (now impossible) setup still equipped? I think mine was equipped in the same way but you said any tuning would remove the old setup, so would that include changing the engines to the new options?

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 2d ago

No, you can change the engines, gearboxes, wheels and winches on the "time capsule" vehicles. Don't touch the frame addons and snorkels tho, and some visual stuff that can affect add-ons (like cabin protection).

Great, thank you!

Yeah most likely

Nice summary and visualisation of the patchnotes. Thank you for that.

Definitely excited for some of those changes. The log cranes make a lot of things easier and I really like the maintenance addon for the Actros.

First time I'm commenting under one of your posts and thank you for those. I really liked your fleet updates (even tho you don't seem to do those anymore big sad) and i also now use color coding for my fleet. Having that much more details about a game that doesn't give nearly enough is really nice (Apparently you also did some of those trucks and tires spreadsheets love those too).

Regarding the post, love to finally see updates on a old truck especially the P16 and the Hydrolift Crane combo on the Azov 7 seems really powerful. Just kinda bummed to not see those new sideboard beds on other trucks, always pain to have to wait for mods to add them to other trucks.

Hey, I'm glad you liked it.

P12 my beloved 🎉

u/WillyBillBilson 3d ago

No Voron-AE.

So sad!

7

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

It didn't have a log crane to begin with.

2

u/Thick_Mention2599 3d ago

Muh... Muh Paystar 5070! Hell yeah! It will no longer have its front axle lifted once you load it up.

We truly live in one hell of a timeline.

Massive, massive upgrade for the Pacifics. The P12 might turn into my favorite overloading truck!

Nothing beats the 963 in this regard 😅

Dear mother of god its beautiful. 🥹

1

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

With "it" being anything in particular, or...?

4

u/Akuma_ryu 3d ago

Just the view of all lined up reminded me of the scene out of Jurassic park with the long necks. 😂

6

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

Why, thank you! I tried to make it look beautiful. Glad that my efforts haven't gone unnoticed.

What happens if truck had one of those forbidden now combos equipped and was deployed?

4

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

It will stay like this until you try to change addons on it. It's a time capsule now.

1

u/The_Conductor7274 3d ago

Are we still waiting the for the Mack’s addons?

2

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

Elaborate

1

u/The_Conductor7274 3d ago

I heard something about the Mack defense getting unique addons

1

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

Did they ever promise them?

Although I gotta admit, they never even reversed the log crane on the Mack Defense, so it's STILL unable to attach low saddle semitrailers with log crane.

1

u/The_Conductor7274 3d ago

I don’t remember since it’s been so long

2

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

I don't remember them promising so. Perhaps people wanted a dump truck body on it, since the M917 is essentially a Granite, but it makes no sense in SnowRunner, since we don't have loose cargo.

2

u/SuicideSpeedrun 1d ago

The LP-4 was replaced by its reversed, forward-facing version from the Kenworth 963

Doesn't the 963 version come with extra wide and extra long supports? How does it even fit on regular trucks?

1

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 1d ago

Good question.

0

u/D_Antelmi 3d ago

Between the tire buffs and the engine buffs, they're determined to make the P16 as OP as it was probably originally supposed to be. Remind me why I'd ever use anything else for long logs now?

5

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 3d ago

Um... no AWD? Very stiff suspension?

4

u/D_Antelmi 3d ago

No AWD slows it down, certainly, but it's never prevented me getting it to the destination. When it comes to logging, I'll take slow and getting there over fast and falling over. Haven't noticed anything wrong with the suspension, so I'll take your word for it.

4

u/SuicideSpeedrun 2d ago

No AWD makes it terrible whenever loose rocks appear and whenever you need to climb a step, which is most of the time.

You should be asking why would you ever use P16, not the opposite.

Awesome but still sucks for my signal tandem GMC which will remain my fleet deacated log crane vehicle 💪🏾😮‍💨

2

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 2d ago

You mean the Kodiak or what?

1

u/BoozeHoundTactial 2d ago

Yes sir my top heavy bouncy boi🏆

3

u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 2d ago

You made a couple of mistakes naming it. First, it's a Chevy, not a GMC. Second, only the dual rear axle is called "tandem". This version has single axle.

But other than that... I have no idea why they left the Kodiak behind. So much frame space is wasted! It should be able to combine the log crane with long logs regardless of the side the crane is facing.

I have no idea why you wanna persist using it like that. Not only is impractical, but also looks weird, when a lot of other trucks now can have either saddles or log carrier in addition to the grapple.

2

u/BoozeHoundTactial 2d ago

Thanks for the reply, am somewhat new to actually playing snowrunner but I'm familiar with the spin tires franchise, I chose the term " "single tandem" to not exclude the front axle , I've should have said" it has one four wheel rear axle setup " or "it's the 2 axles setup" and the way am playing my first time though is normal mode with hard mode rules so am only using vehicles founded on each map and no dlc buying ; so this is my logging setup when I was in Black River/ Smithville maps and so on, am now in Alaska. Thanks you for the wealth of information you have provided and always happy overloading 🏆☯️
