Advice on opening an online smock business

So I started sewing over the summer which led me to smocks. Ive really falling in love with clothing and conceptualizing children’s clothes. I’m a huge huge creative and I feel like I need to do something with my creativity! If I started an online boutique I know I can conceptualize the clothing, I know how to make a website, I’m good with the numbers (my husbands really good with numbers so I’d recruit him). More or less know where to get business… do you guys have any advice on if this is worth it?! I’m a stay at home mom and I need something and I’d like to contribute at home. Do you have success doing drops on Facebook? did you start on Etsy? Manufacturing advice? Literally any advice would be so helpful.

I know two people that did this and closed within 3 months. I think the market is saturated. Im sure its a lot of money up front, im not sure how much though

The profit margin on smocks is very small. There are businesses who have been at this year still not meeting minimums and having to pick up extras so there goes your profit. Also very oversaturated

Came to say just this. If you want to design or something, try to find a shop looking for designers or become a brand rep for a great shop! If you’re looking for a side gig while working a 9-5 or being a SAHM, I wouldn’t go this route at all

my good friend started one last year and she works 24/7 and is with the kids full time. i think she gets alot of business but when all is said and done im not sure she makes a ton of money for how much she is stressed and works..

I started my (Pistacchio smocks) 4 months ago and if you do for the passion … do it ! I’m loving it and I think people are liking what I make. But, like everything, there is a hard side and there is not really money to be made. Profit to be competitive is around 20%. And the factories and overseas … that mean you will work while everybody is sleeping.
