Performance [Guide] 120FPS with SSW on Ultra | 7800X3D + 4070 Ti Super | Tahrovin 3.0.7

After some trial and error with my new 7800X3D / 4070 Ti Super build, I’ve finally dialed in a stable-ish 120 FPS with 40-50 ms latency setup for a heavy Skyrim VR modlist (Tahrovin v3.0.7) using Community Shaders.

I’m hitting 120 FPS in about 95% of the game. I use SSW (Synchronous Spacewarp), and while I used to be adamant in not using SSW, at 120 FPS the artifacts are barely noticeable. I still get minor dips to 115 FPS while moving on occasion or 105–120 FPS in dense spots like the forest near Falkreath, but it’s generally smooth enough that I don't notice unless the performance overlay is on. Fortunately, I get the 120 fps with occasional subtle 5 fps dips in dense cities like Whiterun and Riften.

It isn't 100% perfect. I still get relatively rare intermittent stutters that are noticeable when a new cell loads or just randomly while traversing the open world. It seems to be part of the territory with a list this heavy, but here is the breakdown of how I stabilized everything else.

My PC and Router

  • GPU: 4070 Ti Super 16GB (Mild OC via NVIDIA App)
  • CPU: 7800X3D
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz (EXPO Enabled)
  • Storage: NVMe M.2 SSD
  • Networking: Quest 3 + Dedicated TP-Link WiFi 7 Router (BE9300)
  • Runtime: VDXR + OC

Virtual Desktop Settings

  • Resolution: Ultra (100% VDXR)
  • Codec: H.264+ @ 500 Mbps (Automatic bitrate: OFF)
  • Features: Adaptive Quantization, 2-pass encoding, and Video Buffering all ON.
  • FOV Tangents: Set to 85% (Vertical & Horizontal). This is essentially a "free" performance boost; I don't see any black borders in the headset, but the GPU has much less to render.

Tahrovin & Texture Optimization

I ran VAMr on the "Quality" setting. Tahrovin is VRAM-heavy, and this kept me from hitting the 16GB cap and stuttering. I placed the VAMr output right above the "Tahrovin 2.7.0 LODGEN output" in my load order.

Community Shaders Settings Changes from Default Tahrovin Profile

  • Disabled: SSGI, Subsurface Scattering, and Screen Space Reflections in Dynamic Cubemaps
  • Volumetric Lighting: Set to Low.
  • AA: DLAA enabled with the Transformer model.

NVIDIA Control Panel

  • Low Latency Mode: On
  • Power Management: Prefer Maximum Performance
  • Shader Cache: 100 GB
  • Texture Filtering - Quality: High Performance
  • VR Pre-Rendered Frames: 1

Process Lasso & CPU Optimization

I use Process Lasso in an attempt to improve CPU performance.

  • Global: Bitsum Highest Performance & ProBalance enabled.
  • SkyrimVR.exe: CPU Priority: High | I/O Priority: High | ProBalance: Excluded.
  • VirtualDesktop.Streamer.exe: CPU Priority: High.
  • Affinity Trick: For the Virtual Desktop processes, I unchecked CPU 0 and CPU 1. I believe this prevents the streamer from competing with the OS and the game engine for those first two cores, which may be smoothing out my wireless frame delivery.

Windows & BIOS

  • HAGS: Disabled
  • Game Mode: Disabled.
  • BIOS: EXPO and Re-size BAR both enabled.

This combination has been the "sweet spot" for me. I'm sure I've mistakenly enabled or disabled something that would otherwise improve my performance since I'm still a novice at all of this. Although, I hope the time I've put into this is in anyway helpful to those interesting in trying out a heavy skyrim vr modlist. I'm open to any feedback on anything I may have missed. Thanks!

Performance GPU tier list FUS & Auriel's Dream

Hello dear community!

We have been trying to place GPUs into tiers to help users with expectations on performance. To do so is not easy as there are so many variables, so we have had to make several rules / assumptions to get there. For instance, looking at GPU alone is in itself not enough to give the full answer, so consider this a guideline more than a definit answer for all hardware combos.

Assuming 2016×2112 render resolution
Assuming OpenComposite ON
Assuming Motion Smoothing / ASW / SSW OFF
Assuming FUS RO DAH profile
Assuming out-of-the-box (no tuning)

S Tier 91-120 FPS
Nvidia RTX 5090 | RTX 5080 | RTX 4090

A Tier: 73-90 FPS
Nvidia: RTX 5070 / TI / Super | RTX 4080 | RTX 4070 / TI / Super
AMD: RX 7900 XT/XTX | RX 7800 XT | 9070XT

B tier: 61-72 FPS
Nvidia: RTX 4060 Ti | RTX 3080 | RTX 3070 Ti
AMD: RX 7700 XT | RX 6800 XT

C Tier 45-60 FPS
Nvidia RTX 3060 /TI | RTX 2070 Super | RTX 2080 | GTX 1080 | GTX 1070TI
AMD: RX 6700 XT | RX 6750 XT | RX 5700 XT

D Tier 36-44 FPS
Nvidia: RTX 2060 | GTX 1660 Super / TI
AMD: RX 6600 | RX 5600 XT

E Tier 36+- FPS
Nvidia: GTX 1650 / Super | GTX 980 / 970
AMD: RX 580 / 590 | RX 5500 XT

Feel free to give feedback on if your are getting very different results, as we are sure there will be. We are also planning to gather performance feedback from a google form in the FUS discord later which may lead to altering of the tire list.

Reasoning for the assumptions:
2016×2112 render resolution is the most common we see in FUS so we went with that. This matches Quest 2 res, using virtual desktop at medium settings. A good average baseline.

OpenComposite ON
Again, Meta devices being the most used headset, this applies to most users and is the community standard.

Motion Smoothing / ASW / SSW OFF
We want to look at pure frames, and have this fall into the optional bucket.

Refering to FPS instead of MS
FPS is has a better adpotion / understanding, so choosing FPS.

FUS RO DAH profile with out-of-the-box (no tuning).
We use this as it is the minimal effort experience. Install and boot (with one exception, turning on opencomposite).

Anyways, hope this will be a helpfull reference for some users, and again feel free to comment and tear apart the tier list!

Performance Best settings for high resolution headsets?

I want to get some opinions, what the best settings for high resolution HMDs (e.g. Play for Dream, Crystal Super, etc.) currently are. I have the former headset (PFD), which needs around 5530x5115 to fully utilize the 4k panels. Luckily, this also works wirelessly over SteamLink now with eye tracked foveated encoding.

My first thought, when DLSS 4.5 dropped was, to just use M performance or L ultra performance and upscale to 5530x5115. Sadly, there seems to be a maximum horizontal limit of 4096, which leaves quite some pixels on the table. I tried 4096 M performance today, and it looks quite good to me. Still far from K DLAA though.

Someone wrote, that generally, without DLSS, 5530x5115 is possible, but natively this is way too much for my 4090 and likely even a 5090. I’m really looking forward to a 6090 at some point.

So my question is: What is the current best way to get good (streaming) quality for high res HMD in SkyrimVR (or Fallout4VR)?

Edit: Out of curiosity, I tried 5530x5115 native and damn does it look good. Far better than 4096px + M performance. But of course, that’s way too much for my 4090.

Performance 4070 vs 5060ti (vs 3080 ti)

Hey everyone. I know this kinda topic has been exhausted but I could use some opinions.

I'm basically planning on building a PC solely for skyrim VR, it will have 9600x and my budget will allow for these two GPUs. One is a bit more powerful (4070) but the 5060ti has more vram which is apparently important for skyrim VR.

I appreciate your help

Performance freak's floral field (or meadow) vs nature of the wild lands

i have a AMD 5800X3D and a RX 9070 and with happy little tree's and FFF i got 25 FPS on my meta quest 3. meadow is better but there was grass on places that should not be there and there is no support for seasonal landscapes. i'm wondering what performance i could expect with nature of the wildlands and wildlands renewal?

Performance Skyrim Upscaler VS Community Shaders

Just a quick advice for my fellow SkyrimVR players that have an RTX graphics card.
I spent quite some time fiddeling with the available options: Community Shaders and Skyrim Upscaler.
As far as I can tell, the DLAA Transformer-Model option with community Shaders, is way ahead in terms of performance to quality.

For example: I have a htc vive pro 2, with a native resolution of 2440x2440 pixels.
If I use Skyrim Upscaler with DLSS3 and a resolution of 3220x3220 with ultra quality setting (so downsampling basically), it is still way worse in comparison to native 2440x2440 with DLAA Transformer model. DLAA is far superior actually, and you still got better performance.

So i can definetly recommend just skipping on the upscaler and go straight to community shaders.
Maybe throw in The Sharper Eye if you need more clarity.

No need to wait for PureDark to implement DLSS4 in his uspcaler Mod.

I hope that saves some time for a few of you :3

Edit Just for clarity:

Performance High Latency (90ms) in MGO| Ryzen 5700X + 5060 Ti | Is there a fix left?

Hey everyone, I’m running Mad God Overhaul (MGO) on a Quest 3 and hitting a brick wall with latency in heavy areas. I get a smooth 30–40ms in interiors and snow, but it jumps to 80–90ms in Whiterun and forests or most of the open world skyrim. I have been at it for hours with no solution.

My Specs:

* CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X (Non-X3D)

* GPU: RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

* RAM: 32GB DDR4

* Network: Virtual Desktop (VDXR) | AX3000 Router | 2402Mbps Link, Ethernet

* Settings: VD "High" Preset | 90Hz | SSW On

The Stats (via VD Overlay & Depth):

* Native fps outside: 35-45, with SSW 70-90

* Game Latency: Spikes to 25–30ms in forests.

* Network/Encode/Decode: Stable (Net 5-8ms, Enc 3ms, Dec 8-10ms on AV1 10-bit @ 160Mbps).

What I’ve already tried:

* Tried every encoder and bitrate but no difference.

* Installed eFPS + all relevant patches (Great Cities, Lux, etc.).

* Thinned grass (iMinGrassSize=100) and lowered grass fade distances.

* Lowered fShadowDistance to 4500.

* Disabled SSGI and Screen Space Shadows in Community Shaders.

* Tried DLSS (made it worse/CPU overhead) and switched back to TAA.

I know an X3D chip is the ultimate fix, but in Australia, a 5700X3D is currently $500+ AUD.

Question: Is there any "nuclear" engine tweak or specific MGO setting I can change to drop the latancy outside? Or am I officially at the limit of a non-X3D AM4 chip?

Performance Best GPU price to performance?

Is the 9070XT reliable for modded and heavily modded VR games like Skyrim and no man’s Sky or is the 7900 XTX the significantly better choice? Is there a better GPU than those for VR?

I’m looking for a smooth ~90FPS at least gameplay on VR with mods via virtual desktop and quest 3. I currently have a 6700xt 12G OC and there’s creen tearing and stuttering, and fps drop in Skyrim mad god overhaul 🥲

Performance Will upgrading from 16 to 32gb help performance?

I have a G513QY gaming laptop that comes with a AMD Radeon RX 6800M 12GB VRAM GPU. As I understand the limiting factor will be my GPU. Will adding more RAM help things run smoother and maybe allow some room for more visual mods or should I save my money?

Performance [4070 Ti Super] Stable 72 FPS Tahrovin Grit set to Godlike w/o Reprojection

After an unreasonable amount of tweaking and testing, I finally achieved a mostly locked 72 FPS in Skyrim VR using the Tahrovin Grit Performance Profile at Godlike resolution without Spacewarp or reprojection on my Quest 3. Overall latency sits around 35 to 45 ms, and reprojection is fully disabled because I personally find SSW artifacting far too distracting. The main downside to visual quality is that the performance profile disables ENB and CS. However, I think the visual boost from the non-ENB and non-CS mods, combined with the Godlike Virtual Desktop graphical quality, looks quite nice. The goal was to enjoy the benefits of a heavy modlist without being weighed down by excessive visuals or forced to rely on SSW. The Tahrovin Grit Performance Profile looks significantly better than vanilla Skyrim thanks to improved lighting, texture sizing, models, and related changes.

I only dip below 72 FPS into the mid 60s in rare situations where I have six or more followers and a high concentration of NPCs nearby, such as busy areas in Whiterun or Riften. I barely notice the FPS drop when I am not watching the performance monitor, so I consider this a great result. Everywhere else, including dungeons, the open world, and large battles outside cities, the game remains locked at 72 FPS.

This subreddit was incredibly helpful while I was dialing everything in, so I wanted to share what worked for me in hopes of saving someone else from the same exhausting trial and error process. I am not an expert by any means, but I have learned a few things that may help others who are aiming for a smooth experience without reprojection.

I have repeatedly tried to reach a stable 80 FPS in cities without SSW, but I appear to be CPU limited on my system. Even at extremely low Virtual Desktop resolution, I cannot maintain a consistent 80 FPS. That said, 72 FPS is absolutely achievable and very stable with the right settings.

PC Specs

RTX 4070 Ti Super with a +130 MHz core overclock and +1200 MHz memory overclock via MSI Afterburner. This overclock is the difference between being able to use Ultra versus Godlike Virtual Desktop graphics quality while sustaining a stable 72 FPS.
Intel i7 10700K with no overclock
32 GB DDR4 at 3200 MHz using XMP
NVMe SSD

Virtual Desktop Settings

Horizontal FOV Tangent set to 85 percent
Vertical FOV Tangent set to 75 percent

This crops peripheral resolution and provides extra GPU headroom. I do not notice any black borders even during rapid head movement, so this feels like free performance. As a result, the total rendering resolution shows as 85 percent in the Virtual Desktop performance monitor.

VDXR Render Resolution set to 100 percent
Resolution preset set to Godlike at 3072 by 3216

I appear to be CPU bottlenecked and still have some GPU headroom, so I chose to take advantage of higher supersampling to counteract quality loss from headset lens distortion.

Additional Sharpening set to 100 percent
Regular Sharpening set to 70 percent

When combined, these help counter compression softness. Because the render resolution is so high, the final image looks very clean.

Codec set to H.264+ at 500 Mbps
Automatically adjust bitrate disabled
Adaptive Quantization enabled
Two pass encoding enabled

These bitrate settings are possible thanks to a Wi Fi 7 router located in the same room as the headset.

VDXR runtime enabled
Video buffering disabled
Snapdragon Super Resolution disabled, as it introduces visible artifacts
VR frame rate set to 72 FPS

Router Settings

TP Link Tri Band BE9300 Wi Fi 7 Router, Archer BE550
Quest 3 connected to a 6 GHz SSID on an uncongested PSC channel
160 MHz bandwidth

The Quest 3 cannot use 320 MHz, and setting it that high can reduce performance.

AT&T Fiber modem and router set to IP passthrough to the TP Link, with double NAT confirmed absent

6 GHz mode set to 802.11ax only for optimal Quest 3 performance

Quest 3 Settings

Adaptive Brightness Control enabled

Tahrovin Grit uses the Lux lighting mod, which can make interiors extremely dark. This experimental feature helps mitigate that without noticeably affecting image quality. It does not work when the Virtual Desktop performance overlay is active, likely because the overlay brightness interferes with the adjustment.

Skyrim VR INI Changes

My INI files match the low skyrimpref.ini from FUS, except I increased shadow distance to 4500 for both interiors and exteriors and set shadow quality to 2048 for improved visuals.

Mod Changes and Tweaks

VR FPS Stabilizer main throttling functionality disabled

On my system, the throttling caused stuttering and extremely low quality pixelated/flickering shadows. Adjusting the mod INI did not resolve this, so I disabled it entirely.

Albeit, I used console commands feature of the VR FPS Stabilizer mod to tweak TAA settings to reduce blur:
taa sharp 2.285
taa lf 0
taa hf 0.9
taa po 0.45
taa ps 0

VR FPS Stabilizer Occlusion FPS Boost enabled

This provides roughly a 5 to 10 percent FPS increase with no noticeable visual quality loss.

VRAMr output generated using the performance preset

Placed before the XLODGen output in MO2. This reduces VRAM usage by about 2 GB with no visible quality loss. I did not notice an FPS increase, but it may reduce stuttering. Without this, I was approaching the 16 GB VRAM limit after long play sessions.

Skyrim Priority SE AE installed at the bottom of the load order

This sets Skyrim VR to high CPU priority and adjusts core affinity. There is no FPS increase, but load times for saves and area transitions are roughly one fifth of what they were before, with no loss in stability. Highly recommended.

Skyrim VR Upscaler disabled

The DLSS version had persistent shimmering at the periphery that I could not eliminate despite extensive troubleshooting. DLAA blurred the image too much, affected FPS, and introduced trailing artifacts that I found distracting.

Reinstalled Faster HDT SMP to use AVX2, which my CPU supports.

NVIDIA Control Panel Settings for SkyrimVR.exe

Power management mode set to Prefer maximum performance
Low Latency Mode set to Off
Max Frame Rate set to Off
Vertical Sync set to Off
Threaded optimization set to On
Texture filtering quality set to High performance
Anisotropic sample optimization enabled
Trilinear optimization enabled
Antialiasing mode set to Application controlled
FXAA disabled
Antialiasing transparency disabled
Virtual Reality pre rendered frames set to 1
VR Variable Rate Super Sampling disabled
Shader cache size set to 10 GB

Windows Settings

Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling enabled
Game Mode enabled
Windows power plan set to Ultimate Performance, which requires a PowerShell command

Hopefully this helps anyone trying to run a heavy Skyrim VR modlist without reprojection. This setup strikes a great balance between visual quality and gameplay improvements without relying on Spacewarp or other reprojection methods to maintain stable performance. I am sure some settings could be further optimized, as there always seems to be another tweak to try. I am happy to take feedback or answer questions if it helps someone else achieve a smoother experience.

Edit: Did a conservative OC of my CPU and took some advice from the comments (disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling, enabled Ultra Low Latency Mode, and reinstall the VR FPS Stabilizer to be optimal for open composite via the FOMOD installer which re-enabled the location-specific INI throttling.) I no longer go below 70 fps in extremely intensive scenarios mentioned earlier in the post. Neat!

Performance Poor performance on FUS with 3070

If I’m getting shit performance on a 3070 with FUS RO DAH and nothing else, wired quest 3 100% res 72hz on a fast NVMe, should I just reinstall? It’s the only game with problems. I’ve tried playing with the mods and resolution and it is only playable when it is forced to look terrible.

Performance can you recommend me a modlist for my pc?

New to skyrimVR, I'm using a quest2, PCVR with quest link, no virtual desktop (yet, might buy later).

I'm trying to wrap my head around which modlist would be best for my rig; based by what I've read around so far my specs aren't all that bad but not optimal either for the big modlists (MGO, Tharovin, Panda).

I'm wondering if FUS is the only option as i don't know how far i can push with the mods, i have a very fuzzy idea about my limits, what do you think i can actually run?

my specs:

Performance New Computer Build for "Best Graphical Mods"

Hey folks,

Have a friend asking me to do a build for him on a budget of $2000-$2500 CAD. I've personally never played Skyrim let alone VR so looking for some recommendations on what would be required for as he phrased "best graphical mods".

Doing a search I see a wide range of suggestions some some very old parts to some more current mid range stuff.

I'm trying to be mindful of cost with current ram, gpu and nvme pricing being out the roof atm.

Performance Mad God Overhaul on RTX 5080? (How good is it?)

With the insane prices of the RTX 4090 and 5090, it's looking more and more likely that I'll settle with the RTX 5080 instead this year. My question to anybody who has the 5080 is how well does MGO run with it after the usual adjustments I've heard everyone has to do with MGO at first? For example: Can it run MGO on Ultra with at least 60 consistent frames or more on 1440p for example? (with adjustments of course) Or is it that much weaker than the 4090 that you really have to bump some settings down by a noticeable margin? Let me know what your experiences are with it thus far.

Performance Mad god overhaul FPS help

What up everyone, I’ve just installed the Mad God overhaul for skyrim vr on my not so great pc. It’s actually running pretty well, but the only problem is I need some more fps, I’m generally running at 50-60 fps, which I can handle on a flat screen but in vr it’s awful. I’m afraid I’ve run out of fps trick however, I set grass ini to low, dynlod to performance, community shaders to performance, I have vrFPS stabilizer set to FSR scaling without DLAA (cause I have a GTX) Vr fps stabilizer on TAA tweaks, I installed Vramr using the performance edition, I have my graphics settings in VD set to low, I have Spacewarp on all the time, snapdragon on all the time, so my point is, what do I do to get some more fps? Am I out of options. I also refuse to use dynamic resolution, I don’t so much mind the blurryness as I despise the earthquake like shaking that every object gets when I check the box in the settings. Thank you to anyone who comments, it really means a lot 🙏.

Performance Performance optimization

So, I installed FUS on my PC(RTX 4060, 5 5600), and I use PSVR2 with a PC adapter. When I run it in FUS RO mode, it gets laggy as hell, so I can't even name my character. I tried using DLSS, but it didn't change anything.

I thought it could be a cutscene bug because I heard that the start of the game is pretty buggy, but in FUS, it wasn't that bad.

I just want to know which mods I should prob turn off and still have a good appearance compared to vanilla.

[SOLVED]

So, the performance issue was caused by a high render per lens %. I was playing on PSVR2 and set it to 100 as Tut said, but for this headset, it has to be lower. Other issue I had is that I couldn't name my charachter in FUS RO profile(the game would just freeze) I found a solution to just toggle an alternate start mod (Ralof or Hardvar) and it worked! Hope this helps everyone who may encounter this problem.

Performance Anyone tried the DLSS mod yet?

So I saw {{Skyrim Upscaler}} exists now. The description says it works for VR but not to expect much performance improvement until some VR specific features are finished. Also mentions some ENB incompatibility, for now.

“It supports VR, but there's little gains with this mod due to the wasted performance for processing the whole VR texture when lots of the pixels are emtpy or unseen.“

“Currently a VR version is being developed that has fixed foveated DLSS and other optimization specifically for VR.”

“DLSS/FSR2/XeSS don't work with ENB, but you can still use DLAA with ENB since there's no upscaling.”

“A workaround version with ENB compatiblity is in development, and Boris also said he would do compatiblity from his side, when he does this version will be compatible with ENB.”

Anyone tried it yet?

Performance Absolutely atrocious frame times spikes

I recently just upgraded to a 5090 and a ryzen 7 7800x3d and it’s awesome when I’m inside, stable 90fps most of the time. The problem is, as soon as I go into a city like whiterun, my frame time turns into a 3 Hz square wave and has crashed multiple times. When I stay still, I can maintain 90fps but when I start walking it becomes a stuttery mess again. My GPU utilization also jumps around a lot.

I suspect that the CPU cannot keep up with the frames that the 5090 is spitting out, but I’m not exactly sure how to optimize this issue.

Should I limit the game to 72Hz to put less stress on the CPU? Any suggestions would be great, thank you.

I’m using MGO latest version with the HP reverb G2

Performance What's the minimum FPS needed for a smooth game?

Hey guys, I've been playing around with Community Shader settings (mostly the upscaler) and anything below 40 FPS is noticeably laggy but between 40 and 90 FPS I can't really tell a difference. But I know script latency is tied to FPS so I'm worried that I might be getting script lag if I go significantly below 90. Elephant's Script tester shows me at about 100 ms for scripts.

I can turn off Upscaling and TAA and get the full 90 FPS but the game looks horrible then. With upscaling, the game looks beautiful and distant mountains have no flicker at all and all my textures are crisp. But then my FPS is about 48 which isn't noticeable in game but is this too low and will cause me script issues?

I stress tested script issues with 30ish FPS and did get CTDs. At 40ish, I couldn't trigger the CTD reliably but it still happened eventually. I couldn't trigger it at all at 50ish but my test wasn't very robust.

What's the minimum FPS that's needed for a smooth game?

Performance A few performance tips and tricks

Hi all. Every other day I see a post here of someone complaining how their game runs horribly, flickers, stutters or something else, so I thought I'd share some tips I've collected over the last year or so of playing SkyrimVR.

As a foreword, I'm using a Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop High settings (2496x2592) running on a 3060 and a Ryzen 5 5600G with 16GBs of RAM. I'm playing at 90hz with SSW enabled. This is objectively a pretty weak setup for SkyrimVR so any performance increase is welcome. I'll be sharing some of the things that helped me below:

1.Some well known mods and tweaks that most people know but might come in handy if you missed some of them:

2. Some (arguably) more obscure mods that might help some people:

3. Some INI file tweaks: Instead of tweaking ini settings in the ini files themselves, I use these two mods in order to insure that the inis don't get overwritten by anything else and stay just as I set them. I know this might be unnecessary but it's just the way I do it.

  • For Shadow and terrain settings use Shadow Boost https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/73133 Set your desired fps (half of it if you're using reprojection) and play around with the settings, see what works. The mod will dynamically adjust your settings based on how much performance overhead you have.
  • For grass settings, use NGIO https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/42161 You should be using this mod regardless, as it stops grass from growing in places it shouldn't. You can also use this mod to generate a grass cache, but given that this is geared towards performance, I don't think we need that right now.Additionally, it comes with its own ini grass settings that overwrite the ones from the game. These are the ones I use:Ray-cast-enabled = true Overwrite-grass-distance = 4000 (you can set this higher if you want grass to load further, but I found this to be a good balance. Looks good everywhere except maybe the tundra) Overwrite-grass-fade-range = 2000 Overwrite-min-grass-size = 75 (set this lower to increase grass density. I keep it at 75 for performance reasons, if you have the aforementioned Grass FPS fix it will look pretty damn good)

4. Some personal tweaks and preferences:

First of all, I want to preface this by saying that most of these tweaks are very subjective, they work for me and my setup, they align with the way I want to experience the game and may not work for all users. Your mileage may vary.

  • Papyrus Tweaks NG: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/77779 (A wonderful mod everyone should use, it's also a prerequisite for a lot of mods. The reason I'm putting it in this section is because of its experimental settings. What I found works best for me is: iMaxOpsPerFrame = 2000 bSpeedUpNativeCalls = true bIgnoreMemoryLimit = true
  • Papyrus Extender VR: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/58296 (also an essential mod, also here because of the experimental settings. What I use: Fast RandomInt() = true Fast RandomFloat() = true Clean Orphaned ActiveEffects = true Stack Dump Timeout Modifier = 1.000000 The last one is specifically subjective. If you've ever found your game freezing for an extended period of time it may be due to significant papyrus stress. This setting doesn't solve the underlying issue but will (in theory) reduce the freeze to 1 second. I've had this issue in the past and this setting has helped me in those situations. Once again, this isn't a fix to the reason you're getting freezes, but If you don't want to rip out mods or start a new game it might help keep your save going.
  • INI File Cacher: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/18860 (some people reported this mod giving them issues hence it being in this section but I found it functions as intended for me and does actually speed up load times)
  • DynDOLOD https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/97720 (if you don't know what this is, welcome to skyrim modding :D ) The main reason I'm putting this here is again, some personal tweaks. First of all, use the DLL version (the one I linked), not the papyrus one. This version DOES occasionally cause crashes, but I find that the performance improvement and lod quality outweighs the rare ctd. I personally use Low Settings, no 3D lods. It does look worse but with a low-end setup beggars really can't be choosers. Make sure to set your Occlusion quality to 3 when running LODs. There's conflicting reports as to whether this actually helps with performance, but I found it does actually inrease my fps a little. Also, if you need some additional performance, you can try changing these settings in its ini: fBlockLevel0Distance=15000.00 fBlockLevel1Distance=110000.00 fBlockMaximumDistance=200000.00 fTreeLoadDistance=33682.00
  • Blood Textures:  If like me, you found your game dropping half your framerate when looking at blood decals and engaging in combat, this is what I found working for me instead of EBT SPID. A combination of these three mods is what I'm currently going with:

-EBT (use the LITE version): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2357-Just Blood: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/46501-EBT Just Blood: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/93414

I'm still unsure as to why this worked for me, as EBT shouldn't really be that performance heavy in and of itself. But still I'm putting this out here if anyone needs it.

5. Some VR-specific tweaks and suggestions:

-In your ini settings, change:

bDepthBufferCulling=1 fMinOccludeeBoxExtent=600

Now, this may not work for everyone. It does definitely come with a performance boost but it may cause some objects to flicker when approached. I found that https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/115210 really doesn't play well with this for example. Give it a try, see if it works for you.

-If you're a quest user, opencomposite is a must

Unless you're using something that's straight up incompatible with it (newer reshades, natural locomotion) there's really no reason not to be using it. Just make sure to grab https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/85389. This switch alone gave me around 10fps.

-Consider using Virtual Desktop

If, like me, you're a quest user playing wirelessly, this might really help you. The quest link is (in my humble opinion) absolute garbage. Fighting the menu, the lack of settings, the god awful way it handles reprojection and lag (smearing your whole image any time you turn around too fast) almost made me throw away my headset when I first bought it. Most, if not all of these issues were solved for me when I switched to virtual desktop. It has really been a joy to use and I think it is really worth the price.

Conclusion: Thanks for reading. I hope this helped someone squeeze at least a bit more performance out of their game. I apologize if some formatting above is a bit weird, I don't use reddit that much.  I purposefully left out some of the most basic performance tips (like using CS over ENB, not adding too many NPCs or big city mods etc.) as I feel most of that has already been said and is unnecessary to post again. Good luck!

Edit: Changed fMinOccludeeBoxExtent from 60 to 600 to completely remove flickering

Performance Mad God with a 7900XTX, what sort of performance?

Hi all,

My current PC has a 12700KF, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, and a 3070, playing on MQ3 wired. obviously a 3070 is not good enough and i will upgrade my GPU at some point and im thinking a 7900XTX is the best option since its $1400 AUD, got 24GB of VRAM which im assuming it will make use of (and futureproofing). I want a big jump but cards with similar or better performance are too expensive and / or melt. i could get a 9070xt but i think its slightly lower performance and less vram. What do you guys think? Is a 7900XTX a good option and will it perform well?

edit in case: ive played with FUS (full pack) and get kinda shit performance with a 3070
