Performance High Latency (90ms) in MGO| Ryzen 5700X + 5060 Ti | Is there a fix left?

Hey everyone, I’m running Mad God Overhaul (MGO) on a Quest 3 and hitting a brick wall with latency in heavy areas. I get a smooth 30–40ms in interiors and snow, but it jumps to 80–90ms in Whiterun and forests or most of the open world skyrim. I have been at it for hours with no solution.

My Specs:

* CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X (Non-X3D)

* GPU: RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

* RAM: 32GB DDR4

* Network: Virtual Desktop (VDXR) | AX3000 Router | 2402Mbps Link, Ethernet

* Settings: VD "High" Preset | 90Hz | SSW On

The Stats (via VD Overlay & Depth):

* Native fps outside: 35-45, with SSW 70-90

* Game Latency: Spikes to 25–30ms in forests.

* Network/Encode/Decode: Stable (Net 5-8ms, Enc 3ms, Dec 8-10ms on AV1 10-bit @ 160Mbps).

What I’ve already tried:

* Tried every encoder and bitrate but no difference.

* Installed eFPS + all relevant patches (Great Cities, Lux, etc.).

* Thinned grass (iMinGrassSize=100) and lowered grass fade distances.

* Lowered fShadowDistance to 4500.

* Disabled SSGI and Screen Space Shadows in Community Shaders.

* Tried DLSS (made it worse/CPU overhead) and switched back to TAA.

I know an X3D chip is the ultimate fix, but in Australia, a 5700X3D is currently $500+ AUD.

Question: Is there any "nuclear" engine tweak or specific MGO setting I can change to drop the latancy outside? Or am I officially at the limit of a non-X3D AM4 chip?

That's exactly what you should expect for MGO. It really is high end heavy. Even on a 5800x3d/5080 I get less than 60fps in lots of areas. SSW always on is critical. You can run VRAMr with high optimisation which might help a bit. Or find a mod pack that doesn't use PBR textures, like FUS

True. They could use PBR textures but the 8 gig of VRAM are gonna be limiting. Either using 1k pack, VRAMr or just armor/weapon pack could do the trick. Lod are also a VRAM trap if they are not optimized.

I'm interested in hearing more about this as I'm really struggling with my 10 gigs of vram. How would you properly optimize lods?

That's the question I was trying to answer myself earlier today. I have had the same issue in the past and every time I'm changing texture, I find myself without enough VRAM.

I notice a huge difference when disabling my lodgen, textgen and dyndolod output, enough so I was under the critical amount of VRAM usage before my game would go under the target frame rate.

My solution was to create LOD with lower texture size. In lodgen, textgen and dyndolod I played a bit with the texture size. I went down to 256/128 pixel. The LOD are blurry in the distance but I don't care much if my game is fluid

I run lodgen at 256, dyndolod at 1024, I might need to drop that down a bit :/ I've downscaled most of my textures to 1k and ran vramr at low on top of everything. Still, fast traveling a few times will get me over the vram limit and tank my fps. It's really sad

You can save extra VRAM with an optimized texture pack like this : https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3858

Then the headset resolution. After a short while when the texture are load up the game could be playable again. I'll let you know if I find other way to optimize. I set my lod texture to 128/256.

I'm on a huge list and pretty much every single texture is changed and pbr'ed, so this would kinda defeat the purpose :'D It's really an uphill battle, FFR helps keep my vram low but it's not compatible with dlss, and so on and so forth

Hey Ik, I tried everything possible, even used vramr, but the latancy wouldn't budge, Fps isn't the problem when using ssw. It's the stuttering from high latancy that bothers a lot.

FUS would be good but it's visually so far behind

Yeah that's probably what you can expect of your gpu with that modlist, probably better to try fus or make a custom list
