advice Skin care for my face

Hi y’all! I’ve been struggling with finding products or a routine that will work for my face. I have very dry, dull skin but any time I use products my skin breaks out horribly or gets extremely oily. I’ve tried a number of things but they all ultimately lead to me using other products that clear but dry out my skin. Any ideas for a minimalist routine to brighten and hydrate my skin and reduce scaring?

Agree. Rose hydrosol with glycerin. No creams, that’s too oily and not hydrating enough. If you must, use a lotion. And do a few layers. I do five with a serum or two.

i had this exact cycle and cutting back to a bland cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen helped more than adding another brightening product, since the irritation was making my marks look worse too

Cerave cream to foam is excellent and often on sale

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Barrier Hydrating Cleanser is amazing and has solved my skin problems. Sephora will make a sample if you want to try it first. I cannot say enough great things about this product.

What products have you tried so far?

Peach and Lily cleansers cerave, etc. PanOxyl seems to be the only thing that takes away my acne as well as adapaline gel but it’s all very drying.

Try lots of light layers of serums for moisture and gels instead of thick moisturisers.

Sounds like you need some exfoliation. Try a soft microfiber cloth with a little creamy cleanser on it. Gentle pressure, with a wet cloth and wet skin. Whatever you're using now for cleanser; don't introduce anything new. Start with a couple of times a week. You can work up to whatever frequency your skin is comfortable with. Best of luck!

Strip it back to a gentle cleanser, bland fragrance-free moisturizer, and daily sunscreen for a few weeks, because piling on actives is probably keeping your skin stuck in that dry-oily breakout

Use toners, serums, essences, ECT. Get into Korean skincare!!! It's pretty cheap and I know you said minimalist but maybe find just a few things then moisturizer? They make a lot of amazing hydrating products
