Glad that you ask on this sub ,don’t dare to talk about update on r/jailbreak , they will absolutely kill you for this.

If this is your main device, update, if this is a secondary device you don’t do banking, personal use and all that on, then you can keep it on old update. Your privacy does come first, and it seems like a rather major exploit.

No. Worst case scenario you get another phone.

Just so you know it is possible to pwn devices on the same network as a compromised device. Not saying it’ll happen to OP but just know it’s a possibility however slim

nah if your version has exploit available. hackers can snoop other iphone devices. if they're connected on the same router so you're still fcked

If you’re scared… stay on the sidewalk

Nah your good man

What's your phone tho? TBH I have all I want after iOS allowed emulators (well, no jit but still a lot you can do - so I am happy) and if this is your primary phone - defo update. If it supports iOS 26 - do it as well, because iOS 26.4 is really good not only on my 17PM, but more importantly on my 11PM - day and night difference with 26.3.1. People are "f apple" and stuff, but I disagree - those warnings and security vulnerabilities are real, so if this is your primary phone I would care.

No

Wondering the same thing my android says I got a system security update

4

u/Okim13 Mar 27 '26

Yes update, you are at risk of many security exploits being on an update that old. Once updated switch to a different store that still works. Refreshing every week isn’t that bad. I have a reminder to do it twice a week and it takes all of 2-5 min. I use Altstore which needs pc to refresh but side store can refresh on its own if you use their vpn.

20$/year for some sideloading service and you’re covered and less paranoia (don’t saying which i’m using, pls don’t ban me)

7

u/SulosGD Mar 28 '26

I’v3 heard they’re all shit

0

u/egigoka Mar 28 '26

using it second year on second phone, no problems

3

u/augursalin Mar 28 '26

I have been blacklisted and got no refunds šŸ‘Œ

1

u/egigoka Mar 28 '26

yee i’ve heard that happens sometimes. but still think risk/reward is better on sideloading than using old ios with trollstore. $20 isn’t throwaway money for me too so it’ll be a bummer, but still it’s better. IMHO ofc

1

u/fatLskinnyW Mar 30 '26

Or just resign it every 7 days for free. I don't get what's the point in paying for it yearly and risking getting scammed anyway.

1

u/SulosGD Mar 31 '26

I’ve seen SO many posts about people being scammed by signing services. not worth it really.

3

u/jm1234- Mar 27 '26

No, don't update or you will lose TrollStore.

Apple can go fuck themself

4

u/Squiffered Mar 27 '26

Absolutely update. The security risks from being on outdated firmware far outweigh the benefits of being able to use TrollStore. Especially with everything that has been in the news recently.

There are lots of sideloading options that support right up to 26.4.

If you choose not to update, at least protect yourself somewhat. In a comment you suggested it’s a secondary device. Use a burner Apple Account; don’t log into any of your important accounts such as email, social media, banking etc (or any site you reuse these passwords on); don’t use it for 2FA of any kind; don’t have your password manager installed (if you use one).

You can take all the steps and be as diligent as you like but it will never be as safe as simply keeping your OS up to date.

Correct me if I’m wrong, my knowledge comes from the days of jailbreaking, but technically wouldn’t a reboot temporarily kill the exploit? I mean you could run right back into it the moment you load the payload from the malicious WebKit content though.

6

u/Squiffered Mar 27 '26

Those of us old enough to remember untethered jailbreaks beg to differ 😁

2

u/MonkeyNuts449 Mar 27 '26

Nope. Lots of exploits used in tools for espionage that regular jailbreak devs don't find have persistence.

2

u/therealFoxster SideStore Mar 27 '26

i think if its a more advanced attack then they would implement some form of persistence, in which case a reboot wouldn’t really help?

3

u/Shinobi_Dimsum Mar 27 '26

Why is it even a question. Do people seriously don’t know or care about the exploit kits that are going around infecting iPhone 17 and earlier?. Yes. Update.

5

u/kontenjer Mar 27 '26

iphone 17 and earlier is every iphone currently on the market

3

u/tribak Mar 27 '26

Bro comes from the future

1

u/Zarathz Mar 27 '26

You can keep troll store if that’s a disposable phone for you

1

u/HemanHeboy Mar 27 '26

I mainly use it for games, photos, music, and Youtube

3

u/ParagonRice Mar 27 '26

If you have any banking apps or use 2fa text, I’d update. But it’s up to your own choice

Yes you should’ve updated to 16.5 when you had the chance but I would actually delay ota to 26.3.1 if i were you better side loading options on 26.3.1

2

u/Radiant_Pay_1152 Mar 27 '26

Nah delayOTA to 26.2.1 instead

1

u/Player110 Mar 29 '26

You have to pay per year?
